This Guesthouse is one of a kind. Located shortly outside the buffer zone, it offers a very quite space with everything of interest within George Town in walking distance. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are very well equiped and the whole place is very clean. What I appreciate very much: drinking water, coffee, tea and shampoo/shower gel are included. There's also an excellent Wifi-connection. I can highly recommend The Magpie Residence.

My friend and I stayed for 2 days. You can only pay by cash in this hotel, so be prepared. The room is clean and just enough spacious though the building looks old and the reception looks small at first sight. Owner is friendly who sold us quite nice breakfast on our last day. He carefully instructed us how to take the CAT bus to travel freely in the town which is a great experience. Thanks to his map of street art and instruction, we got a lot of great photos and memories. Worth a recommendation

I stayed at magpie residence for 2 nights. I booked 3 different types of rooms, King Room, Double Room and bunk bed in dorm. The King Room a bit small than expected but everything else was in working order. I had a good sleep at night because the place is quiet and peaceful too. And the location is just perfect. The most I like is the cleanliness! The place is surprisingly clean it was even cleaner than my house ;p The only thing I want to comment is the snail pace elevator, it is just too scary to take at night alone hahah.. Overall we had a good stay, well recommended!!

The room that we booked for was adequate. We have enough space for two of us, some space for praying, included bathroom, there was iron as well if you are hijabis like me. Iron is essential to have! The breakfast prep by the host was nice too. In case if you choose to indulge in local delicacies, there are some within walking distance in the morning and afternoon.

Comfortable hostel with super helpful and friendly staff. Lots of privacy in the capsule like beds, however the room got quite hot at night. Pretty good location, walking distancr to most places like Love Lane and Armenian Street and Little India. Breakfast is fantastic. Good security with lockers. Great seating area out the front to meet other travellers.

Very nice location, few minutes walk from the busy streets. The host gives the BEST food tips. Ask him for recommendations! If ever to travel to Penang again, I’d choose Magpie again. Also we love the details: hair dryer, iron, water boiler. Just the small things to make you comfortable. Thanks!

We stayed just one night in a double with shower and opted for the breakfast. I will definitely stay here again. It has a great location, a tiny bit away from the epicenter that's beginning to look like beer street in Hanoi. Easy walk to Georgetown sites, restaurants and bars. Also next to street where so many buses travel, so easy to go whereever you want vy bus. Very comfy bed with charming linens, great breakfast sandwich. Really good shower, God shower head and plenty of hot water. WiFi could be stronger. The folks there could not be nicer.

Over a number of years I've stayed in 16 different lodgings in Penang. This one is about middle-of-the-pack. Interesting location, outside of the main tourist ghetto but still walkable to dining, attractions, etc. Friendly and helpful staff. Room comfortable enough with space for a useable table and two chairs. On the other side, weak, unstable wifi was a problem. As for breakfast, well, it's cheap, but you get no choice -- different item served each day and that's all you get -- chicken sandwich w/ melted cheese (Friday offering) was about the last thing I wanted for breakfast.

I was solo travelling and it would be my first dorm experience. I booked a bed at Magpie residence after little hesitation and it couldn’t have been a better choice! It was speckless, there was privacy even with 8 beds in the dorm and I loved that it was a 3-minute walk away from the busiest street in Penang. I wanted to stay somewhere a little quieter. The hosts were extremely friendly and I was well-rested every night. Bathroom facilities couldn’t be better, there’s an iron, an ironing board, a hairdryer; basically anything you’d need! The charging sockets also have USB ports so you don’t have to worry about bringing along the head of the charger. Simply amazing and I definitely recommend it.
