Welcome to the Jawi Peranakan Mansion (JPM) heritage boutique hotel and experience the nostalgia of the Jawi Peranakan era in the heart of Georgetown Heritage Sites. The Peranakans were an elite group within the British Malayan community in mid-19th century Malaya. The term Jawi Peranakan referred to local-born, Malay-speaking Muslims of mixed South Asian and Malay ancestry.

Jawi Peranakan Mansion has garnered mixed feedback regarding value, with the cost-effectiveness debated among guests. However, its cleanliness is consistently lauded, with particular mention of the well-kept pool and immaculate surroundings. Travelers enjoy the spacious and aesthetically pleasing rooms, although some report firm mattresses and hot water issues. Its prime location near a food court in a historic area is a highlight for many. The amenities, including the heritage building's charm and pool, receive praise, despite minor criticisms. Reviewers frequently commend the service, contributing to the mansion's celebrated, authentic ambiance.

We stayed 6 nights at this delightful hotel. The location is excellent within walking distance of everything George Town has to offer. We enjoyed a large room which was very comfortable. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The hotel is quiet, guaranteeing a good nights sleep. We took advantage of the wonderful dinner and house tour with the hotel owner Chris Ong, which was the highlight of our time in Penang. Definitely recommend, we will be back.

First of all the beauty of this place can not be fully appreciated until you step inside, the character and authenticity is breathtaking. We had a lovely welcome by the staff with a nice touch of a drink and ice cream once settled into your room. We stayed in the mansion suite which had 2 large four poster beds which were very comfortable and the bathroom was absolutely spotlessly clean. Water was refreshed often and was always a plentiful supply. Location was brilliant easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see .
Staff always opened doors and were very friendly and polite . I would stay here again in a heart beat .

I would highly recommend staying at Jawi Perankan. The location is great, so easy to walk everywhere. The service is outstanding, everyone is super friendly and helpful. And the hotel itself is stunning, really special and guaranteed to make you feel at home. We loved our room, beautiful bed and bathroom with replenished bottled water All the time - for the more environmentally conscious there was also a filtered water tap to refill bottles. The perfect oasis in the hustle and bustle of George Town.

We’ll be back for sure!

The resort is close to the airport and therefore makes for an easy transfer to a very chilled and well-maintained resort. Probably would suit solo travellers and kid-free travellers... it’s not close to the frenetic pace of Centai ... traditional Malay houses are lovely and perfectly integrated into the resorts lush grounds...

I stayed here with my family and we were so impressed we booked to stay at the hotel again before we left Malaysia. The hotel has so much charm, the photos don’t do it justice. It’s an oasis of calm in the middle of George Town. The rooms are huge and airy and so beautifully decorated — right down to the tiniest details, especially the mansion rooms. The staff are amazing, full of genuine smiles and a willingness to help. We felt thoroughly spoilt during our stay and were very impressed with all the staff recommendations from local food, shopping and sites and even the nearby massages. Our days in George Town were the highlight of our holiday and that’s largely due to the staff at this hotel and their incredible attention to detail.

A great location. Turn left or right and it's not far to walk to bars, restaurants or further into George Town.
Hutton Street can get a little busy but the hotel is set back from the road, so noise is limited. However, I was woken early each morning by broadcasted morning prayers from one of the nearby mosques.
The room (Mansion 2) was comfortable with ceiling fans and aircon (no wardrobes though).
Breakfast (in a seperate building within the grounds) was fine. Not extensive in choice, but more than adequate for me.
The pool was a little like a large Roman bath.
Staff were very friendly and attentive.
It's fair to note this is one of the George Town Heritage Hotels, so you get history staying here.
If you are expecting a resort-style hotel, you should probably consider somewhere with different amenities.

This is a gorgeous looking hotel both inside and out with wonderful friendly service and everyone bending backwards to cater to your every needs and make helpful suggestions as to where to visit and what to do. The duplex mansion room was just exquisite. The location of the hotel is very central location with lots of shopping and eating places nearby.

One thing to bear in mind is that it is worthwhile arranging on street parking online in advance (it is cheap, easy and convenient to do so) as we found parking to be a little awkward on arrival.

We spent 4 wonderful nights at Jawi Peranakan. The staff couldn't have been more attentive and helpful with advice and service. The Mansion room was large and well furnished and the bathroom was excellent. Our room had a bar fridge and bottled water was provided. Breakfast was also wonderful and served in the courtyard annex. The pool provided welcome afternoon relief from the tropical heat and all buildings were set back for the road behind a lovely garden making it a very private setting. All the major UNESCO sites were within walking distance. Staff were extremely helpful with organising taxis and recommending restaurants and potential visits to places outside Georgetown.

I had a very enjoyable stay at the Jawi Peranakan Mansion made especially pleasant by the excellent service of all the staff.
This boutique hotel has been lovingly restored and the rooms and common areas all have great character.
An example of the wonderful service was when on my first night arriving back at the hotel my air conditioning would not work, and the night staff could not get it going either. I was immediately offered another room to sleep in for the night and this turned out to be one of their suites. It was a beautiful room and I was reluctant to go back to my proper room next morning, but the air conditioning had been fixed overnight which was excellent service.
If I have any complaint it is that the breakfast buffet is rather sparse and really I was expecting rather more choice to be available.
However, you could not fault the politeness and service provided by every member of staff and this is not always to be found in a hotel.

The hotel is such a place full of warmth. Staff are friendly and willing to help at all times. The best is the room! We stayed in a loft style where two adults and three kids perfectly fit. Beds are big and comfortable. We all like this hotel. The only thing we want to suggest is to provide kettle for each room, although there is a water dispenser in public area. The staff served us welcoming ice creams and tea upon arrival!

Would you recommend this property for a family with small kids (5 and 1) ?
Answer from Abhijit L
New Delhi, India86 contributions90 helpful votes
I doubt whether a family with kids will find the place attractive. Kids do not like to be closeted in a room with parents ; they need space to move around and play. There is no space for that. The pool is not child friendly. As you exit, you are on the main road with fair amount of traffic -- this is not good at all for kids.

You can park along the road, there is parking spot. It quite easy to get parking because most guest that stays here are not local.
