If you’re coming to Borneo and are unclear on what to do, look no more! Ray at BnB@21 will be your Godfairy on planning your trip and making sure you get everywhere safely ! He’s super knowledgeable on Sabah, with great advice and always there for you ! He ll also make sure to help you link up with other travelers if staying solo. Not to mention, hostel organizes outings to bring people together 😊
Great hostel with very friendly staff! Upon arrival Ammie and Ray helped me a lot with getting my Sabah itinerary together and they both gave me a lot of unique tips that resulted in me staying at amazing homestays and a very nice beach camping which I otherwise would have never experienced! Hostel itself is centrally located, and has a nice backgarden where you can sit and relax. Aircons in the room work well and bathrooms are clean. 100% recommended!
We stayed in B&B@21 for 2 nights. This hostel has a perfect location, very close to the center and good restaurants & cafes around. It's good organized, has good dormitory rooms and everywhere nice decorations. It gave you the feeling to be home. The staff is so very friendly and helpful. We had a very interesting chat with Rey, about experiences and just a good cultural exchange. And he gave us some recommendations about transportations and where to go out. So it was a very nice stay and we definitely would come again when we go to KK!
Me and 2 friends (3 girls early 20s) arrived early July 2019 to stay for few nights in KK. We ended up rebooking to stay for longer using hostel world and stayed for 2 weeks in the end. The hostel was clean and tidy. There is a lovely outside seating area and indoor communal area to cook/make tea. Breakfast is included as fruit/toast/tea and coffee. Really good that they have water fountain to refill water bottles. Bunkbed rooms with 6-8 people. It is a small hostel which has friendly atmosphere and people are generally chatty and sociable but it is not big party hostel and quiet after 11pm which means can get good sleep. The air con is good in the rooms. Good location, lovely cafes on the same road and a short walk to the waterfront. Grab drivers/taxis are very easy from here. You can book trips via the hostel too which is really handy and they have researched the best trips with best price for travellers. Big thank you to the famous Ray who speaks perfect english and knows so much about the city so will find you great restaurants and activities to do whilst in KK. He has been so helpful and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. …
I stayed in the hostel for two nights, before and after my Mt Kinabalu hike. It is an excellent location with a nice back-yard garden, a clean and well-kept place, on a street with great coffee houses serving high-quality espresso and very nice food, 10 min walk from a great night market serving cheap and high quality seafood and fish. The staff is extremely helpful and professional. Ray showed us around neighbourhood, gave us valuable tips on Borneo and Phillipines and booked Kinabatagan river trip for my friend. On top of that, he mailed me back home the trekking shoes I left behind which I appreciated a lot! Definately, one of the best places I stayed in during my travels in Asia. Would definetly book once again if landing in Kota Kinabalu! Keep on doing what you're doing! Thanks!!…
B&B @ 21 in KK was our first stop of our 5 months travelling and we couldn’t have picked a better place, spotlessly clean, best pb toast for breakfast and really social hostel. Ray (the manager) was so helpful and showed us all the best local spots and gave us any inside info necessary to ensure we did everything the cheapest and most efficient way whilst still having the best time. The hostel is such a fun place thanks to Ray connecting people he thinks will get on (e.g we stayed at the same time as 2 other English couples and he put us all in a room together and set up drinking games for us in the evenings. Also the location of the hostel is fab, right near a cool bar, some nice coffee shops & juice bars and far enough from the centre that it’s not noisy but is also walking distance from everything. Couldn’t recommend this hostel more! …
Ray was the nicest, most helpful guy ever. So were the other staff. Great location for exploring what KK has to offer. Stayed here for our first two nights in the country. They sorted us out with a tour and took loads of time to give us as much information as they could. Play dice with Ray if he is up for it (his favourite sweets are nips). We will definitely be coming back to stay when we fly out in a few weeks.
I stayed here for a few nights at the end of July. I am from England and went to Malaysia for a month travelling and this was the 2nd hostel I’d stayed at the other was Step in Lodge. BB21 is a beautiful hostel. It is extremely well decorated and feels like home. You take your shoes off when you enter to ensure cleanliness. Everyone is friendly. There are plug sockets next to every bed and also a bed light. The manager was extremely helpful we sat with him for about an hour talking about our experiences and we asked him what activities we should do whilst staying in KK and he couldn’t have been any more helpful. He suggested loads of things! You’re a truly welcoming establishment. Thank you!
Good hostel with all the basics. After moving to other hostels for the rest of the nights, we realised that this one had a comparative better location in terms of it being near Gaya Street (lots of food) and a few other nice cafes. It's also relatively near Padang Merdeka (sp?) a bus stop that takes you to other parts of Borneo.
Stayed here before heading to Mt Kinabalu!, Sepilok and Kinabatangang. Very relaxed, clean and affordable! The help and friendliness we got from Ray was priceless! Nice bars and restaurants in surrounding area! Recommanded!!
