I booked this hotel garden from the TripAdvisor website, found that the price is even cheaper than some backpackers lodge...It's really value for the price paid with hot shower and even got TV in the room! The location of the hotel is perfect with cafes, restaurants, shopping centres and even banks nearby in just walking distance...
If you're searching for a payable place to sleep in Kota Kinabalu, but you want a single- or double-room and no hostel, try this: It's very well located (in the backpacker's street) and you can reach the bus station (airport shuttle) as well as the jetty and every other important place (banks, bestaurants, shopping-malls, markets & the tourism-board) by foot within a few minutes. They've got clean rooms with big bathrooms (very good showers, hot & cold water) and fair prices. Staff could be in a little better mood from time to time, but apart from that, it's a fine place to stay :)
With good location, clean & tidy rooms I never felt like staying at a budget hotel except for the low room rate! Staffs were friendly and even accommodated our needs to use the lobby refrigerator and safeguard our luggage till our night flight after checkout. Thanks to the management and staffs!
The hotel is more like a backpackers lodge than a hotel. Location is good if you are interested in visiting the island close-by, but don't expect anything else. The street is very loud at night as well.
Stayed in February 2014 for 10 nights. The Staff were excellent, and the hotel was clean and tidy. We were supplied with fresh water daily, as well as toiletries, clean towels and the room cleaned whenever we asked. For the price we paid it was well worth it. Slept really well with having a windowless, very dark room - not a problem. One drawback was the air conditioning which worked really well, however, the "neighbours" in the next room did insist on eating the smelly fruit which was banned but they took no notice of. This resulted in the smell going through the air conditioning system into our room.
during the night, i couldn't sleep at all because of noisy and smoking other side rooms. there are no windows and a ventilating opening so that i feel i can't breathe. i booked three days but next morning i just moved another hotel. i don't wanna go kota kinabalu anymore due to this hotel.
Hotel is very comfortable, clean and cheap. Has ample parking space and not too far from the downtown, only five minutes was able to arrived at Jalan Gaya which is very famous in Kota Kinabalu. Servicing of cleaning of the rooms was also very good.
Stayed here only one night. My last night before i was due to fly home. The hotel was pretty empty and i got a "promotion price". Room i had was windowless and fairly small, but it had ok air-con, a (tiny) television and a very good shower. The walls were very thin and i had a couple of partyboys staying next door but you know we have all been there and done that and the commotion died off around midnight, so no worries. End of the day, its pretty good value, its fairly new, location is alright, atmosphere is abit sterile, the staff could turn their frowns upside down sometimes but for a private room its better value than some of the "guesthouses" in the vicinity. One thing i did notice though was not one but two signs in my small room explaining the cost of anything damaged, sheets, sinks, mirrors, stains, television, flip-flops. I had to get a member of staff up into the room to go through the damage already in the room and the various, i presume coffee, stains already on the sheets.…
The hotel is generally nice and in a good location. The rooms are en suite with air con and tv. We had a few good nights here and were happy to keep returning. When the hotel is busy, it can become noisy. The walls are thin so you here everything. Shame as because of this I can't really recommend whole heartedly.
on our trip through asia for 2 months stayed at the hotel garden twice. we did choose the budget option, which meant we did not have a window, however clean linen, clean room, aircon, tv, mineral water, and the best ensuite shower in asia!! staff very accommodating and friendly/helpful, wifi access, generally would definately recommend.
