If you want a good location hotel but don't want to pay an arm or a leg then this hotel for you.I have been staying here whenever I been in KK.
The staff usually very polite at the counter.
Not anymore.Their standard has dropped it is not how it used to be.
My wife in the past had asked for a hairdryer after her shower. In the past it arrived within minutes. This trip it arrived half a day later.I asked to help turn the Aircon on.Apparently there is a switch by the entrance door you have to turn on before the Aircon will work.It took 3 calls before they turn up.After they arrived homethey scolded you for calling so many times. When u remonstrated that it's very hot without Aircon they chided u for being stupid not knowing about the switch.
U wrote a complaint to their management at around midnight. They delete it and knocked at your door at that midnight hour probably looking for a fight!!!You get the picture of the hooligans you dealing with?!!!
I m looking elsewhere next time I m in KK.Certainly will not recommend this hotel to anyone any longer!!

We (myself, wife, 8- & 5-year old boy) stayed at 1 City Hotel from 12-Aug (Fri) to 14-Aug-2011 (Sun) for 2 nights, in a family room at 3rd floor (end of corridor).

It was our first trip to Kota Kinabalu & I spent quite a lot of time in choosing the right hotel within our budget & expectations. Well, we did not regret & turned out it was a right choice!!

Pros:

1. Location
- Just ~15min from airport to hotel by taxi.
- Don't be deceived by any map because it is indeed very near to seaside, Gaya street, etc.
- In the centre of KK but not as noisy & busy like hotels at Gaya Street.
- All are well within walking distance & trust me, when my 2 young boys can walk, adults can surely walk!

2. Hotel
- Hotel interior is clean/neat from reception to rooms.
- Floors are not carpeted hence no musty smell like others.
- Decorations are moderate to make you feel alright.
- The lift to 3rd floor is a plus after a long tiring walk.

3. Room
- Room is not carpeted but very clean, can walk with bare foot.
- Our family room is reasonably big for kids to play around.
- 1 queen size bed & 1 single bed with 6 pillows with clean bed sheets.
- LCD TV with sufficient Astro channels to hook ourselves in the room.
- Kettle, dryer, safety box, & enough sockets to charge our hand phones/iPod/camera.
- 1 coffee table & 2 chairs for tea break.
- Toilet is big, nice & clean; the shower area actually takes up half of the toilet with big shower head with consistent water temperature.

4. Service
- Contacted hotel for more hotel info via their website. Very fast response & informative (thanks to Diana from their customer service??)
- Booked the room via their website, & check-in took 1 minute!!
- Receptionist, especially Sandra & one handsome chap. Never failed to pay 100% full attention to your requests. There was one time I called up Sandra from Wildlife Park to request the taxi for early leaving back to hotel; she then actually called me back to ensure we got in the taxi; nice touch, Sandra!!
- Housekeeping staff was helpful with smiling face even though it was their fasting month.
- Overall the hotel staff had demonstrated a personal touch to all hotel guests, and honestly not many hotels could have great people in their crews.

Cons (minor imperfection from getting full score 100%):

1. When we first entered the room, we were welcomed by a crawling cockroach. Hunted it down & killed it. That was the only one we saw during our entire stay (hopefully it was the only one).
2. The high tech room key cards didn't work all the time. Need to go to reception to have it re-programmed??
3. The toilet bowl flush buttons in our room were very hard to press. My boys always need ed me to flush for them all the time, at the end my thumb got numb.. :-(

Suffice to say, it was still a memorable stay & value-for-money. I love to recommend to those with children to give this hotel a try.

Good job, 1 City Hotel.
Thanks!!

Went there around 2012 with my family. The location of this hotel is good as it is pretty centralized to the KK city. The hotel is pretty much normal. Helpful receptions. The first room we checked in was a bit small, but we managed to change to a bigger room with additional reasonable bucks. The bed is pretty comfy and the shower is with good pressure as well. Overall ok

First I wasn't expecting much with the price that I paid for the room, but once I enter the room, it was spacious and it have everything that we need. The location of the hotel is strategic but it's difficult to find parking space during the day.

Customer Service, specifically Diana is heartless and unsympathetic. I booked on December 20,2012 for a June 18,2013 booking. Unfortunately, Air Asia announced that effectively February 1,2013 they were cancelling the Clark-Kota Kinabalu (and vice versa) route. Meaning no more flights going there.
Now, I got this trip as this was in super promo and I don't have money. It is hard for me to fly with any other carrier to go there and pay the regular rate.
I emailed Diana numerously letter her know of the cancellation of the airline for the route as no more planes would fly there. I requested a refund for my booking as it's not like I intentionally and erroneously just changed my mind. I was actually very devastated and stressed with this situation.
Anyways, her reply was I cannot give you a refund as their hotel has a no refund policy. "we are giving an option to change the date check-in and check out for our valued guest, or changing the name of person staying in your reservation".
WTF! Change the date of my check in? I can't fly there anymore! Give the room to somebody else? I don't have money to just give away to somebody else. And come on, this was booked on December for June 18. Why can't they just cancel the booking and give the room to somebody else? Is business so bad that that they can't re-book that one room (in June)? Are they so uptight on that rule even though it was booked 6 months ago (not a week ago!) and be compassionate and understanding and just give the refund considering the situation that was forced upon us? HAVE SOME SYMPATHY!

We stayed in 1 City Hotel for 3 nights. We had a standard room (RM98/night) which was very nice and clean and the double bed was very comfortable with nice fluffy pillows.
The hotel is located in a small street which was very quiet but close to the waterfront.
You get TV, Air-con, safe deposit box, a nice bathroom, 2 bottles of water are offered every day. The only negative thing was that sometimes we got a smell of smoke in the room that came through the ventilation shaft in the bathroom (I guess our neighbour was smoking in his room)
No breakfast is provided but there are plenty of kedai kopi around to go and have a nice and cheap roti in the morning!

Very good location, walking distant to todak seafood, pasar filipino, convinient store, shopping mall. Jeselton point jetty is abit far, but still can walk.
But there is no refrigerator in the room. I have a baby, need to freeze the baby food, its a bit inconvinient for me. and a few room have small stair, this also a problem for me because my baby keep on climb the stair.

I stayed here in Oct 2015 for a night. If you just need a decent room for the night at a golden location, for a reasonable price, look no more.

Location:
Its a golden location! smack in between Hyatt and Le Meridien, short walk to street shops, food stalls, restaurants, waterfront...

Building
Its located on a row of very aged looking 3 storey row of shop-houses. (Normally shops at GND level and Residential on higher floors). When you look out of your window , you can see families staying in the building across the road. Dont let that deter you. Once inside the hotel , you are in a 3star surrounding!

Facilities
Kettle, High pressure hot water, LCD TV with movie channels, all lights can be controlled from either side of your bed. A safe box. Strong working WIFI signal. Everything was in working order.

Service
I had second thoughts when I noticed a plague behind the reception which declares this as only a 1-star hotel. That is very under-rated. Staff were always obliging. I asked for iron/pressing set and was provided immediately. They provided umbrella when I wanted to walk out in the rain for dinner. Check In/Out was fast.

Cons:
I left the window open at night to let in fresh air. Can hear music band singing late into wee hours.

Will definitely stay here again!

Went there last 2013 i still remember this hotel i nearly forget the name of this hotel but i found it here. So i want to review about this hotel. There is nothing fancy or nothing chic in this hotel just a normal hotel just like the others situated in the road. First upon arrival from the Kinabalu T2 airport we rode bus to the city and we walked from the bus station and the hotel wasn't easy to find because the establishment is just the same as others and its a small hotel. Nevertheless the lobby was small but its fine the elevators were fast and the rooms were nice and the bed is very soft and the hot and cold shower works well and its very clean the location is great its near the sea , malls and markets. And what i really like is the friendly staff.

We stayed here two nights at the start and end of our trip to Sabah. 2 adults and 2 teenagers. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful arranging taxis etc. We had a family room - 1 king sized and 1 king single bed with an extra bed brought in. The room was large so having the extra bed was no issue. We paid a weekend rate of RM218 which was very reasonable for a room of that size in KK.

The A/C was quiet and the shower was great, the rooms was spotless and the blackout blinds were a real bonus when wanting to sleep beyond 5:30am! The big bonus for me were the pillows! They were not the heavy hard foam pillows so many places have in Malaysia (no neck ache!!).

There is no breakfast included in the hotel however there are loads of places to eat around (we were in Malaysia for the start of Ramadan so there were fewer restaurants open during the day than normal).

Suria Sabah and the markets on the water are less than 10 mins walk away.

We'd definitely stay here again! Thanks

The wifi on our floor (2) was very strong!
