"The Magellan Sutera Resort, our second stay in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, is a haven where you can unwind in your room while witnessing the world's most breathtaking sunset. After checking in, we promptly scrapped our planned itinerary because this place is simply too immense and beautiful to leave! The resort sprawls across an expansive estate, boasting a golf club, three awe-inspiring sea-view pools, multiple restaurants and bars, spa, and a private beach. The lobby's lounge offers an incredibly budget-friendly English afternoon tea for two at just RM68. You can savor it while gazing at the pool and the vast ocean for an entire afternoon. Besides enjoying sunset views from the room, you can also relish the renowned Kota Kinabalu sunset at the open-air bar by the pool, where we had a splendid dinner. This place is incredibly family-friendly, with pools, beach, and playground to keep kids entertained all day. I highly recommend a two-night stay because one night felt like it wasn't enough 🥰. Highlights: Excellent location near the airport | Three enormous pools with different scenic views | Sunset views right from the hotel | Room balconies boasting unbeatable sea views | Suites equipped with daybed for sunset viewing | Sunset bar and restaurant | Private beach | Affordable English afternoon tea | Spacious rooms | Large bed | Bathtub | Kid-friendly facilities

Hotel's Favourite
Stayed four nights due to a family emergency. We picked the resort because of the openness with plenty of fresh air as well as easy road linkages especially to the airport etc. With Covid still rampant in Sabah, access to the resort was limited to guests, which was definitely a plus. Our room was large and more than adequate for our purposes though the property is showing it’s age. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic even if they don’t all perform to expectations. But hopefully that will change over time as they pick up more experience. Buffet breakfast was at the Five Sails. More than adequate. We ate a few times at Al Fresco with its fresh air and hopefully less exposure to potential Covid virus. We also had dinners at Ferdinand’s, which we highly recommend. Chef Daniele (I hope I got his name right) delighted us both nights. The tomahawk is highly recommended if your party is large enough. Noorin will take excellent care of you as she did with us. We cannot compliment her enough. Truly an asset for the resort. Did we say there’s also a trio that provided live music! For us, an oddity during the pandemic. Also an excellent resort to catch the famous KK sunsets. Will we return to stay again? You bet.

I had an incredible time at Magellan Silk Resort! This resort provided me with the perfect opportunity to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city. First of all, the resort environment is very pleasant. Surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, I felt like I was in an oasis. The resort is located on a beautiful beach with mesmerizing white sand and crystal clear waters. My room was very spacious, luxurious and well appointed. The bed was comfortable and I had a restful sleep every night. I was able to enjoy the spectacular sunset from the room's private balcony, which was a true luxury. The service at the resort is impeccable. The staff were always friendly and helpful and made sure I had a great holiday. I felt particularly flattered by their attention to detail. The dining options at Magellan Silk Resort are also excellent. Whether it was a romantic dinner at the on-site restaurant or along the beach, the food was of a very high quality and satisfied my taste buds. I also spent some quality time at the resort’s spa. Various spa treatments and massages allowed me to completely relax and forget about fatigue. The spa therapists here are very professional and made sure I had an unforgettable spa experience. All in all, Magellan Silk Resort is an ideal resort that offers the perfect holiday experience. I can't recommend it more and I look forward to my next visit!

Enjoy the garden and landscaping. Good breakfast. Nice roti canai and others … Service to island hoping can be arranged via hotel concierge. The bellboy especially Hafiz and his buddy Ben, should be entitled for best staffs with his commitment and experience. Nice swimming pool for kids and adults

Poorly managed hotel. Rooms are dated. Buffet breakfast is so so. Worst part, management BAN Grab food drivers from entering the hotel. Forced us to walk 1km out to the security guard house to collect the food. Seriously, what the heck???? Is that how you treat your hotel guests? Sometimes it’s nice to eat outside food as well. You can’t expect us to eat in hotel 24 hours a day!?!? What kind of management directive is this???? Calling yourself 5 star resort. Might as well call it the Magellan Prison. Horrible experience. WILL NOT come back again.

Dear Victor G, Thank you for your review. We do apologize for making you feel like you were in a prison because we certainly do not intend to make you feel that way. We take note of all your detailed comments and rest assured; we are in progress to make good our rooms. Once again, thank you for taking the time spent to write your comments.

Overall experience was very bad. 1. During check in, Front desk staff did not introduce or provide any information about facilities available in the resort. 2. There is a construction site next to harbour wing. It was noisy from early morning to night time. We were absolutely disappointed as we requested quiet room upon booking. 3. There was no hot water supply for shower in one night. Immediate repair work was done in midnight for an hour. 4. Room service is bad. Items (plates and forks) were not delivered after request. 5. Towels for bathing were not refilled after cleaning. Room service was called but a wrong small towel was delivered instead. 6. Razor was provided only on request. But is was removed everyday without refill which lead to daily request and wait for delivery. 7. Food in breakfast buffet are cold.

We were bummed off from Mantanani resort to magellan resort due to bad weather. That’s not the problem. The problem is we booked a chalet that fits 2 adults and 2 children but somehow we were give a suite that doesnt have bed for the kids. We have to add RM180 for another bed. Which took us 5 hours to be sent to our room. Somehow the front desk and housekeeping team are not communicating really well. We have to go to the reception 3 times to get it sorted out.

Dear Saiful, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. First and foremost. our sincere apologies for the inconvenience we caused you during your stay with us. For your kind info, our Executive Suite was allocated to you as it is one of the biggest size rooms in our resort and since you are staying with your family. Our Executive Suite room have two (2) day beds which can be converted into additional beds which is suitable and comfortable for children to sleep. I believe my team did not explain this to you. Therefore, I truly apologize for our shortcomings and the delay in getting extra bed. I have taken your feedback seriously and addressed this with my respective Department Heads. If you have paid for the extra bed and as a gesture of goodwill, we would like to refund you the extra bed charges. Stayed Club Seaview room for 2 nights and quite disappointed. Room well maintained although can see the ageing. Club sea view room do not have balcony where run of the house room all comes with balcony. Most disappointing thing here was Magellan club. They serve coffee/tea all day long and light refreshment in the evening, but no Alcoholic drink during the evening. Just coffee/tea and soft drinks. I never come across with Club lounge not serving alcoholic drinks during evening. One of highlight for Me to stay at the club room always has been pre-dinner drunks at the club lounge, and I was utterly disappointed. I complained to staff and apparantly they stop serving alcoholic drinks after COVID to offer cheaper price. I paid A$ 343 (RM1,061) which wasn't cheap, if I've known the fact I wouldn't book club room. Anyway I ordered bottle of wine at the Club lounge for A$40 (RM 120) and found out it's A$4.99 back home in Australia. Another issue I had, I signed the bill to charge to my room, they wouldn't allow it apparantly I didn't leave any deposit. I was never asked for deposit or credit card during the check in. This was very inconvenient as I had to walk all the way back/forth from their main restaurant to room to grab my purse to pay. Overall very disappointing stay and I would not recommend at the Club access room. Just go for the cheapest room and enjoy the hotel facilities
