. Booked via Agoda as it is cheap to stay for 2 nights This place is a Restaurant and they have a few rooms to let Parking is non existant , risky too as you just park in the open There is a Big Warehouse in front where Forklifts come and go during the working hours , so it is a little No-No for me If lazy to go out , you can have a decent meal ( western preparation ) in the Restaurant Prices are not that cheap though It is way out of town and not too sure of Public Transportation as I rented a Car The rooms are averagely clean , lighting is somewhat dark I would classify this as a B & B , not a Hotel Standard I would give this place a miss Unless you want a Budget .

I also stayed for event at nearby Likas stadium, and chose Gunters for location. It was fabulous to sit at breakfast in the garden with no rush and no noise. The staff very friendly when approached and let me in and out of the locked gate even in the very early hours. I agree breakfast was just a starter for the day (tea, toast and eggs) and soon ate elsewhere. There are no shops nearby, just the shell station. There are plenty of buses stopping at the stop across the road to get into KK central, flag them down and pay one ringgit when you get off. But getting there is a trick the first time by bas. You have to go to the Bandaran terminal and tell the drivers you are looking for a bas going direction Likas - Its only 5 mins by bas. You only want to go to Jln Tuaran, not Tuaran township 30 minutes up the road! ok couple of times I paid 20 MYR for a teksi. My room had personalised decor and certainly was not a chain-hotel experience. I used the fan not the aircon overnight. Internet is best in the breakfast garden.

The Borneo Marathon was being run on the 1st May. We looked for accomodation near to the venue. It was our choice. We arrived and was met by Merci and greeted. Our room was located on the ground floor at the back. It was clean and tidy but did have a population of very small persistant ants.. The breakfast provided while adequate was not sufficient for someone about to run 10kms. Even more surprising was the locality. We were the only guests for such a large event. We stayed for 4 nights. The only grumble was the lack of dry towels. It was at the hottest time experienced weather wise for some years. Overall the accomodation was suited to our requirements. It was value for money A pleasant place to stay in

Initially we were dubious about Gunters' but thought we'd give it a try for the first night as it was convenient to a relative's house. However on arrival, very late - past midnight (having warned them that our flight was delayed) we were very warmly greeted by "Merci". Our room was very clean and bright and the bathroom (wetroom) was also very clean. The airconditioning worked, we had tea making facility, drinking water, and lovely thick white towels. Breakfast was very basic - just tea/coffee and toast, but that was sufficient, as, in KK, one goes out to coffee shops for one's morning meal so that first cup of tea in the bar area, surrounded by tropical palms, birds and bees was very pleasant indeed. So we decided to stay on at Gunter's for the duration of our trip - 17 days. Room service was available as and when we needed it. The rest of the staff were equally friendly and the whole atmosphere was very relaxed. The gate was shut at about 10.30 pm each night but the staff were quite happy to be summoned if we were going to be late back. We did not eat in the restaurant but that was only because we had many friends and relatives to dine with. Transportation could be an issue but there are busstops nearby and we also saw a bus stop right outside the gate so how more convenient is that?? Taxis are not that expensive in KK either. We found the interior deco rather kitcsh and a bit OTT but in a fun and quirky way. All in all a very pleasant stay and would do so again! Thanks, Gunters!
