It is a very spacious hotel that has great location. a walkable distance is several large shopping malls, and the ferry terminal to Sapi Island. The taxi tour provided by the hotel is awesome. We booked a tour to Kinabalu National Park (including the cow farm) and Kilas Wetland. The Kinabalu National Park tour includes places such as the Upside Down House, KK Park and Desa Cattle Farm! Love the place!

greatly recommended!!

The Jesselton is a charming, reasonably priced boutique hotel in a good location close to restaurants, shops and markets - its only a short walk to the waterfront which is quite delightful, especially in the evenings.

The staff on the front desk were very efficient and helpful and spoke good English. Our check in and check out was quick and the lobby area, although small, was clean and well presented - they had used plenty of mirrors on the walls to give the impression of more space.

The room was clean and comfortable, it wasn’t huge but there was enough room to move about easily. There were the usual room amenities and the free in-room wifi worked well. The view from the window was of a large multi storey car park that was across the road; we weren’t troubled by any noise though, and had 2 good nights sleep.

The only downside was that the standard breakfast that was advertised could have been better - but there was an option of paying extra for other choices. We decided to go with the standard and then eat elsewhere.

Our stay was only for 2 nights but we enjoyed it and would stay again.

We spent just 1 night in this hotel last Christmas Eve. We had wanted a comfortable hotel that was in the centre of the city and close to the Airport. This hotel ticked all the boxes. On arrival in our standard room it seemed rather small so I returned to reception to see if we could upgrade to a larger room but was told they had a full house that evening. So after realising we would just have to make do with the room we had, it turned out to be fine for the one night. I think if you were staying any longer you would find the room too small. Also we were on the rear side of the hotel which looked out over a dusty car park and a lot of building Air Conditioning units, it was not a nice view and the afternoon sun shone brightly on the windows so you wanted to draw your curtains (which came complete with a dead cockroach hanging from one of them) to keep the room from getting too hot. The room with the exception of the uninvited guest hanging from the curtain was clean & well equipped. It is an old hotel but has been well maintained. The bed was large & comfortable with nice sheets and pillows. The bathroom was small but useable, the shower was hot and the water pressure excellent. The wardrobe had plenty of hangers in it and an easy chair just slotted in between the entertainment unit & the bed. All amenities in the room worked well including the Air conditioning which was quiet as well. The hotel had free Wi-fi which worked in the room. They gave you a password for the in room Wi-fi, if you want to use it down in the bar or restaurant you will need to get a different password from reception, it is also free. Some friends joined us in the Restaurant for dinner and they ordered Pizza which they said was very good. We had their special Christmas Eve set menu but it was very average indeed. However, the service was very good & the wine selection was also very good and not too pricy. The breakfast the next morning was OK. The hotel is in a convenient location just a 10 minute walk to the waterfront where touts walk along trying to get your business for a boat trip to the offshore Island. We were offered some good rates but had no time to take any of them up on their offers. We noticed on the waterfront in the evening they set up a large fresh seafood dining area. There are several operators and they have the fresh fish or fresh lobster, prawns, etc on display - some of which is still alive. You make your choice and they Bar-b-que it for you. There were some very delicious smells wafting up from the cooking fish. This is probably a better choice for dining than the hotels restaurant, the seafood is so fresh it should be safe to eat & it was certainly a more appetising choice than what we ended up having in the hotel. For a comfortable hotel for the one night at a reasonable room rate this is fine but for a longer stay you would be best advised to look elsewhere. We also stayed at the Shangri-la Rasa Ria resort which is in a different league altogether but that is reflected in the price of course.

I've always walked past this hotel with my family and before we got married, my husband, but have never thought of staying there. We always thought it was an expensive hotel! And when I was young, dining here was a luxury. But I was proven wrong recently when I needed a hotel to stay whilst attending a seminar with my husband, and since Capital Hotel (My usual hotel, which is nearby) was apparently full, I checked this one. I was pleasantly surprised that the price was actually similar to Capital Hotel! I have to say, we were impressed. The service was quite good and friendly, but the room especially was lovely. Although this is an "old" hotel, the room is clean and well-maintained with almost all the comforts and amenities of a higher-class hotel. It may be a bit on the smaller side, but not cramped at all. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were feather and there was an extra blanket! And when we had problems with a table lamp and a power point we were quickly assisted with no grumpiness or black faces. Would definitely stay here again if I could! Location is faultless- right in front is Gaya Street, with the famous market on Sunday morning.

One of my earlier trips I was strolling along Gaya Street and I walked past this boutique hotel. I thought "Wow, where's this come from? " I knew I had to give it a try when the time is right.

On the day I was about to check into this hotel, a family member of mine told me she once came to this hotel 50 years ago. And how she still remembered the best food in town this place had to offer then... (it still does, actually).

This hotel has been around in Kota Kinabalu for some time - it's one of the earliest, and one of the well maintained boutique hotels I had come across. Located on one end of the Gaya Street, the hotel wasn't too crowded in the lobby (I think it has to do with the prices they charged.) It's right in the center of everything, literally, but without all the noise.

Plenty of eateries options. Gaya Street offers plenty of time-proven local eateries and i found many foreign faces joining the crowd.

The staffs are professional enough. I had seen friendlier staffs elsewhere but since I wasn't there to make friends, that's okay with me. They are courteous, and I will leave it as that.

As for the room and layout, I liked the simplicity and the Borneo feel and touches. It met my expectation - and exceeded some more.

The hotel Italian restaurant is a must-try. Surely you can get more authentic italian food elsewhere, but probably not more so in the Borneo area. I was told the Chinese restaurant in the hotel is quite good, but I didn't get to try it.

Getting a booking at this hotel can be challenging. But if you do get the option to book this hotel, and if you want to stay in the town area, I will not hesitate to recommend this hotel. In fact, I knew I would be coming back to this hotel whenever I can get a booking that fits my budget.

We stayed here for two nights as a family of four and were very pleased with our room - it was very clean and was big enough for 2 extra beds - we had booked a room with the two extra beds but there had been a misunderstanding and the room was only set up for three when we arrived. However, the staff sorted this out immediately for us and were very helpful. We had breakfast one day in the restaurant - but we didn't think this was anything special. We would recommend this as a base for a stay in the centre of Kota Kinabalu.

the room was adequate for two persons. All amenties were in place. I wish the room can be brighter for reading purposes. Food & shop were all around the area; wet market, shopping malls, banks, pharmacies, taxis, etc. Staff were courteous and response from them were fast and accurate. You are able to get good breakfast meals like bread, eggs and cofee, mee from the eating shops nearby. Definitely a good hotel for the average traveller.

The best advantage of this hotel is its location: restaurants doors away, Suriah Sabah Mall 5minutes, Jesselton Terminal - 10minutes, Waterfront and Central Market - 10minutes. Gaya Sunday Market is at its doorstep. The bed was really comfortable and the room was ok given the building's age. The bathroom was a little small but served its purpose. Would recommend this hotel for those who are looking for a base to explore downtown KK.
