The Jesselton Hotel welcomes business and leisure travelers alike with a central location in the heart of the city and an array of selection for places to visit; encapsulating the full lifestyle of a city life within a tropical haven. Located on 69 Gaya Street, the hotel doors open to a Sunday Market which has become the place to go on for some retail therapy. Another great place to experience the culture and the livelihood of the Sabahan families on a Sunday outing. The hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from the Sabah Tourism Corporation office, KK Heritage Walk and Night Market, Shopping Malls and about a 20 minutes’ drive from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA). The prime location also provides an easy access to a whole range of dining options including Italian, French, Western, Asian and fusion cuisines, which are all available within walking distance to the hotel. Experience for yourself this wonderfully inspiring one of a kind colonial jewel in KK!
The bar/restaurant was nicely priced, serving delicious food. The service was excellent and the staff were such helpful and humble people. The atmosphere was elegant and sophisticated. I would definitely recommend it.

Couldn't expect more from this hotel, considering the budget. Everything was smooth and hassle-free. While being a hundred-year-old hotel may look and feel old, the bed, the room and everything are very well maintained. Prime location makes it a great deal for the price, good food everywhere and just a few minutes walk to every spot around KK town. Definitely worth the stay if you like a simple, feel-like-home hotel service and it is definitely suitable for travelling families and friends.

Check in without concern, reception even guessed my name as I walked in which was a nice surprise Foyer sets the tone for old school charm which is throughout out the hotel walking a fine line between classic and dated The maid uniforms were very old school Very But everything very clean and well appointed with a wonderful bottleshop Bed pillow linen all fine as was wifi Not noisy from street with minimal corridor noise Generous sized room didn’t watch tv and the bedside controls for lights a hoot Some PowerPoints didn’t work Only a shower in my ensuite with tsunami like water pressure Toiletries a little generic Maybe add something with a local twist Walking distance (in heat) to most everything Had set breakfast at cafe next door It was so so I’d say maybe venture out…

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and got rooms on the third floor. Even though the hotel has been around for a while, it felt relatively well-maintained given its age. The windows were noise-insulating, and blocked out the street sounds below. Bed was comfortable, with a bath tub to soak our legs after having climbed Mt Kinabalu. The front desk was also kind enough to allow us to deposit our luggage before our Mt Kinabalu climb too.

This place is around 15 mins from the airport and surrounded by food which are all good. The room was clean though the chairs were a bit stained. No smells though so that’s a huge plus. There’s also a really nice wine bar at the lobby though we didn’t have time to enjoy that. No views from the suite room as we were facing a multi-storey car park. Very quiet even though they were fully booked so we had a peaceful night. Towels and linen weren’t stained and the carpet looked almost new. Overall, a very nice stay with good food surrounding the hotel.

This is a nice hotel, friendly and accommodating staff. Comfortable stay and nice and clean. Breakfast is sort of in the restaurant attached and that was delicious. Close to centre of town so walking distance to restaurants etc

Excellent location, you can walk to almost all places. Rooms are clean; airconditioning system is great. Good and efficient front desk staff. Cons: The bathrooms need to be upgraded, especially the bathtubs which are all stained and just terrible. Perhaps getting rid of the bathtubs and installing showers instead would be better. Another suggestion is to have a working universal electrical outlets in each room. The hotels we had stayed in during our travels had universal electrical outlets so we were not carrying an adaptor. We requested the front desk for one and they did loan us one to use during our stay (thank you for that),

We stayed in this hotel for the first 2 nights of our honeymoon. Based on other hotels we stayed at in Sabah, we found this one to be perfectly adequate, if a little dated. Furniture and decor was quite 1960s but benefits include air conditioning and adequate sound-proofing from the street below. We found staff here to be more formal and less personal than anywhere else we stayed which was a bit of a shame. The restaurant attached to the hotel is also quite pricey for Borneo, but the food was delicious. We ventured out to the water front for our meal on the second night and felt that the hotel was in a safe area even at night time. Within 5 min walking distance is the tourist information board who can give you lots of tips about what to see and do in KK.

The hotel is within walking distance in place to visit in Kota Kinabalu, and is also a safe place to walk around too. The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly too, with winning smiles. The room is tidy, clean and the bed and pillows are comfy for a good night sleep. If it wasn't for work, I would have stayed longer in bed, walked around the premises and stayed in bed again. Maybe next time. Well done to the hotel staff!

The Jesselton is a central and friendly hotel which was clean and comfortable for the two nights we stayed while in Kota Kinabalu. The only downside for us is there was no breakfast as part of our stay, but we knew this before we arrived. Was otherwise great for what we needed while we explored the city. Particularly recommend a few nearby restaurants - Nagasaki (Japanese), Emperors Delight (Chinese) and Little Italy (Italian).
