greetings from italy!
However what makes this place worth a visit is the service. Manuel is alive in KK. We laughed so much over breakfast.
We arrived to join a friend for breakfast. We ordered, 2 cafe latte's plus 2 juices (orange and carrot). We also ordered three breakfasts: one hash-brown with baked beans; one portion of baked beans; and one egg on toast.
After many minutes and confused conversations going on around us, Manuel came to advise that he had no oranges (btw it was Chinese New Year and there are oranges everywhere except here!). Therefore we changed our order to one carrot juice and one melon juice. We also noted that in his hand he had our order which had no coffee but 2 teas. Therefore we asked that he change this back to the latte's we had ordered.
A while later our juice (or not juice arrived). Instead of melon juice we got a plate of melon which was proudly place on our table with a smile. We accepted graciously and ate the melon.
It was at this point Manuel asked my wife if she wanted her breakfast on one plate. Yes she replied, as that seemed appropriate for hash-brown and beans.
Then the latte's arrived. However, unlike previous days, they were sweetened. Why was sugar added today? Anyway, I drank both and we ordered another without sugar.
By this point we were chuckling to ourselves but the best was still to come. Out of the kitchen came our THREE breakfasts - yep you guessed, all on one plate with three sets of cutlery. Again, we graciously accepted and tucked in. He must have thought it very strange that we shared the plate, whether he twigged his mistake, I will never know.
Next our bill was presented with a lovely smile. It included: two juices plus the melon; and toast which we are still waiting for. We paid, smiled to ourselves and left. What a fun start to the day. I suspect we may feature on some game for a laugh type TV program any time soon.
Room: Spacious room, clean bathroom.
Con: No free parking, not easy to look for parking.
I choose this hotel due to location which is really centrally located, walking distance to various eating outlet, local shop, shopping mall, also to the Kinabalu Jetty where one took boat to Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park.
Room is so so, alright, reasonably spacious, room rate include breakfast and is served at the pub, lounge restaurant serving local menu.
Even if rooms seem good and are recently renovated most of rooms have no windows and three among my friends (we where 14) were bitten by bedbug during the night.
Take care!!!
We were staying in room 910 when I woke at about 3am to a rustling sound which I tried to ignore blaming it on the air-con moving some papers around. The noise continued & I tried to convince myself that it couldn't be what I feared most! However, after switching on the light we saw a very large rat (about 10 inches long with a tail as big) scurrying into the gap by the fridge and then watched with horror as it scuttled up the curtains and disappeared into the roof or out of a gap by the window somewhere. I discovered that it had been eating one of my energy bars that I had bought for the following day!!
We phoned reception & they immediately agreed to move us. We were taken to a room on the 2nd floor which the night porter then spent 10 minutes trying to open the door with a key card. We then convinced him to move us to the 3rd room of the night on the first floor. When we arrived there the air-con was not on and it was stiflingly hot. We had to wait about 15 mins for the room to cool down enough to sleep.
Our trip leader spoke to reception in the morning and they didn't appear particularly bothered about anything! Throughout the whole experience no-one apologised to us!
Unfortunately, we had to return on Sunday after our descent from the mountain. They had forgotten all about the incident until our trip leader insisted that they upgraded us. We then had a very nice suite for the Sunday night with no nocturnal visitors, but unfortunately the damage had been done & I shan't be staying there again!
Downtown Kota Kinabalu is a great place to base yourself for sightseeing trips.
