We stayed at Berambih Lodge for 4 nights at the beginning of April 2012. Initial thoughts was that the building has an authentic Sarawak feel to it with its long-house style.
Positives:
- Its very affordable place for the budget traveler and is right in the heart of Kuching's China town, not far at all from the waterfront and bus station which is handy when planning excursions.
- Basic breakfast included.
- Water cooler in the Kitchen which guests can use.
- Towels provided.
- Showers and Toilet clean
- T.V. and DVD player in the lounge. Cable channels available. Great DVD collection.
- Friendly staff.

Negatives:
- Thin walls and creeky floor caused restless nights.
- AC was fine until the last night, made clanking sounds and worked infrequently.
- We discovered mice which were running around in the breakfast area, particularly where the ingredients were being stored.
- The back entrance is located next door to a garage which open early in the morning so another cause for lack of sleep.
- There seemed to be a curfew as staff wanted to sleep in lobby area we thought this was poor as there is no T.V. in the rooms. This is very annoying when you're half way through a film and are told to switch it off.

Like I said, this place is very affordable for the budget traveler and especially if you can sleep through noise. Unfortunately we are both light sleepers, we found that we were constantly tired throughout the day and got less done as a consequence. In the end we had to move to another hotel.

The place was fine and the communal area was a nice touch but there where lots of biting insects around here, the room was also comfortable and fine for the price but I saw my only cockroach here in all my time in Borneo (not that I am fussy) so I have to rate it down for that.
The showers are fine and hot but I have to agree with previous reviews of really thin walls and some rooms share windows to let in light ( they have frosted glass) but there are lots of choices for somewhere to stay on the same street.

-Drinks sold in the guesthouse were good value (only 50 sen to 1MYR more than in a supermarket).

Cons:
-Wifi was weak.
-Shower rooms weren't cleaned well.
-Room was stuffy.
-Bed linen wasn't changed.
-Our room was beside the toilet with a thin partition wall.
-Bed bugs!

We stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. The common area is really cosy, has loads of DVDs plus satellite channel and also has a communal kitchen area which has everything you need and is very clean.

The rooms are basic be and cupboard with a mirror but that's all you need. Some rooms come with or without windows so if you are fussy about this check before you book as there was no mention online when we looked, the guy was nice enough to ask what we wanted when we arrived though.

Generally it's very clean, toilet is a little discoloured but that's it.

Location is good, it's not far from anything you need.

The staff made this place, they were so helpful and really friendly, even after we checked out they offered us use of everything and sorted transport for us.

If your not planning on spending loads of time in the room then this place is great, reccomeded for travellers!

Berambih Lodge has quite basic air-conditioned rooms for the price, but is clean and well kept. The upstairs bathroom was being renovated, but is now fully functioning. The shared showers are also quite simple. The top floor bedroom is rather noisy beside the bathroom, so try to avoid staying there.

The downstairs 'lobby' is very comfortable and cosy, with a TV and dvd set to relax with. There is also free breakfast and hot drinks, so it feels quite homely. The laundry service is also quite expensive, but they can do massive loads. The location is ideal, next to the main shopping strip as well as the riverside. But overally, it seems quite pricey for what it is.

When I arrived, the place was being completely refurbished, but they kept it working. It wasn't AT ALL what offered in the internet. There wasn't bathroon and the toilet was just a bucket!!!
I had to runnaway and, although I only left my bagpack there for one hour, they didn't refund me the money, adducing it was not their fault!
Don't even think about going there!!!

This lodge doesn't have separate dorms for male and female rooms. My friend & I had to share with other stranger guys that happened to be perverted. No privacy at all. Bed mattresses are also in bad condition. Along with the A/C. The bathrooms are so in bad conditions & dirty. Stayed 1 night & my friend & I moved to Backpackers Stay. That lodge was so so so much better than Berambih's. Even the staffs here are less friendly compared to Backpackers Stay's. Over there are all the opposite to Berambih's qualities. Trust me.

rooms are very basic, with air-con but no window, enough clean. friendly and helpfull staff, good wifi service also in the room. should improve the breakfast: just coffe/tea and toast with a couple of jam (and some ants inside them...) and the bathroom: just two showers and only one wc. the "lobby" is really nice! recommended if you are easy-going..

This is a little belated, as we stayed at Berambih Lodge in April but upon finally signing up to trip advisor I just had to review one of the best places we stayed on our 5 month trip.
The location was excellent, and staff were very friendly and helpful.
We had an AC room at the top of the lodge, it was pretty small but had a great feel to it. We stayed 3 or so nights then stored our stuff while we went to Bako National Park and then returned for another 2 nights.
The breakfast was simple but fine and the facilities all very clean. Most of all the quiet and relaxed atmosphere made Berambih a great place to stay in wonderful Kuching.
