Welcome to the Kuching Waterfront Lodge, refurbished with Colonial, Nyonya & Baba decor. Kuching Waterfront Lodge is located at Main Bazaar, one of the oldest & busiest streets in Kuching, where trading took place since a long time ago in the era of James Brooke (The White Rajah). We stayed here for 2 nights (check in 04/05/2012) at the end of our Sarawak tour, and found it to be a good value (230.00 Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) for two nights). The Kuching Waterfront Lodge is ideally located at Main Bazaar opposite the Sarawak River. It is within walking distance of traditional spice shops, antiques, jewelry & restaurants and not far from attractions like Tua Pek Kong Temple, Cat’s monument and Sarawak museum.

The Kuching Waterfront Lodge is a Chinese style lodging house providing very basic accommodation, it almost has a hostel feel to it except that it is very charming. Reception hall and kitchen area features Chinese-style décor of yesteryear and provides genuine sense of intimacy and pleasing ambience.

Most rooms have no windows. We asked for a room with window overlooking the Waterfront Esplanade and were a bit disappointed as the window in our room was actually opened into a balcony for common use and smoking area and was approachable from the common corridor next to our room. But then we realized that nobody stayed this part of house and we could almost “privately” enjoy this balcony. Last day in the evening we were lucky to watch Vesak day celebration (05/05/2012) with picturesque candlelight procession (the major Buddhist festival commemorating the birth and enlightenment of Buddha). It was really an impressive sight.

All rooms are very simple yet tastefully decorated and are equipped with air condition, bathroom with hot shower, TV and a telephone. There is no hanging wardrobe in the room. In-room refrigerators and coffee/tea makers are not provided and as alternative hotel staff offer to use these facilities in common kitchen room on the ground floor. The room service and house keeping are good. Breakfast is included but extremely poor (!). It is just coffee/tea with bread, butter, jam or Nutella-type cream.

The staff at the front desk was pleasant and helpful. Upon request hotel staff can organize shuttle to Sarawak Cultural Village (located 35 km away from Kuching) for 80.00 MYR per person. Airport transfer service for 4 persons with luggage is around 50.00 MYR.

Apart from the breakfast, everything really excited us. The people running the place, the vibe and the great price for the quality. In my opinion the place and location to be if you're hanging out in Kuching.

Warning: this "hotel" practices overbooking and greets their customers as if they were dogs.
We have booked our twin room with a well known web portal, early in advance and when we showed up, at 1pm, we were told by the rude, smartness manager's niece that they were full house. They proposed us a "dorm", which looks like a storage room instead.
They told us they can't refund the booking and that we should manage this, directly with the booking Company, which went well fast, thanks.
Such businesses should be banned from global booking systems.

I choose Waterfront Lodge as I have stayed several times there before. This Lodge has become a shadow of what it used to be. The room is barely big enough to put a suitcase on the floor, breakfast however simple does not exist anymore. The water cooler on the top floor is out of order for the last ten years. It looks like the owners are unwilling to spend a single ringit on maintenance, that is how run down the place looks. It is only a matter of time before they will close down, noone would stay there a second time.

Room Tip: There are many better options in Kuching, and it is not really that cheap for what you get.

We moved here after a few days at the Citidines, as we wanted to be closer to city and we're delighted we made the move. The Waterfront Lodge is within walking distance of shops, bars & restaurants and has a very chilled easygoing vibe.
The accommodation is rather basic but, each room has its own bathroom & AC and the staff are friendly and helpful and the for the price I cant quibble.
I had a room at the back on the 1st floor, it was nice and quiet but there are mosquito's so make sure you give yourself a spritz of repellant before you got to bed.
Would definitely stay here again :)

We moved to this hotel after a few nights at a noisy hostel and it was nice to have a quieter experience. We negotiated a walk-in discount for a double room at the door and have to say that if I had payed full price I would have been a bit disappointed.

Wifi doesn't work in the rooms which are equipped with big lovely wooden furniture but are rather dated. The TV wasn't from this decade and some of the wall sockets in our room didn't work. There was no bath but the shower was nice. The aircon worked well.

The breakfast in the morning was disappointing, you help yourself to sliced bread, tea or coffee and have use of a toaster and kettle. There is jam, margarine or peanut butter for your toast and also mini bananas.

Overall the stay was pleasant, the hotel was clean and the staff very friendly and welcoming. The location is also very good, on the main riverfront on the main bazaar. I would stay here again.

We stumbled onto this lodge while taking a stroll along Main Bazaar. Curiosity did not kill the cat but we changed our accommodation straight away fr Wo Jia Lodge to Kuching Waterfront Lodge immediately!

Took an ensuite 3-bedded room (#102) located at ground floor. It was perfect, w lots of natural light and located at the back (i.e. quiet & serene) & those w young kids who like running around ...spacious airy area and interesting stuffs to keep them occupied in this charming inn (also less annoyance to other guests since they are not stomping around like dinosaurs if they run on the 1st floor).

Clean, non-smelly room, hotel style beddings, bathroom w extremely high water pressure and hot water, and well maintained kitchen cutleries (properly covered, which is important in MY as lizards are abundant here), ac, TV (local channels & BBC) & telephone.

Caution: There are mosquitoes flying here & there. Splash on some repellants or zap them w an electric mozzie racquet b4 u go to bed :)

We stayed here for two nights and we were warmly greeted by the lady on the desk. The room was small but clean and had all we needed.

The people on the desk (there were three during our time there) were very helpful and friendly regardless of the time of day. They advised us on how to get to Semegoggh Orangutan sanctuary and even let us get breakfast early to allow us to get there on time.

We would highly recommend this accommodation.

The Kuching Waterfront Hotel is a great place to stay. It is an airy old shop house on the Main Bazaar in the heart of Kuching's old shopping street and on the Sarawak River waterfront.

The building is traditionally decorated, with lots of wood and rustic furniture. For all of its rustic charm, the rooms are well appointed: free WiFi, TV, AC, en suite bathroom, and comfy bed.

The staff are very friendly, helpful and give great advice on things to do, places to eat and transport.

The ground floor has hostel dormitories, which could be noisy, but I didn't notice the hostel part being particularly noisy or busy. Breakfast is very simple -- help yourself to coffee and toast in the kitchen. But there are Chinese cafés around the corner that serve a great, cheap bowl of breakfast noodles, and the staff were happy to point them out.
