The Marian is in an excellent location and is in short walking distance to a lot of the city sights. The room that we stayed in was pretty small but clean with a good air conditioning. The pool area is nice and the old historic building is beautiful. It's not a 5 star hotel but has a lot of character and is really good value for the price.

TERRIBLE - do not stay here. Dirty and dusty - couldn’t stay as our son has asthma. Checked out after 20 minutes. Service terrible - the manager agreed a refund but then after we left sent an email saying that it needed to be discussed with higher management who are now on leave. They are now ignoring my emails - this seems to be a theme DO NOT BOOK HERE

Absolutely disgusting!! Do not stay here!! Service was appalling and the rooms were filthy! Stained sheet, months of dust sitting on surfaces. Pillows were stained yellow and had blood stains on the pillow itself. The room was very small but our main issue was that it was not clean and does not look anything like the pictures. We couldn’t risk our children’s health by staying her as they have asthma.

It SHOULD and could be lovely, but it isn't. Window design means they let in all the noise from outside. Terrible mattress and pillow. The 'complimentary' breakfast is cornflakes and toast. Shame as the building is really nice.

Upon arrival, we instantly commented that the hotel looks nothing like the photographs on Agoda's website. It is nothing like a "boutique lodging house" and more like a run down hostel. After checking in, the receptionist gave a key to our room and told us we were on the second floor. We asked for help with our suitcases and the receptionist said no, whilst a male member of staff did not look up from his computer and just shook his head. My mother is 64 and has respiratory issues, hence why help was essential. The receptionist told us to use the lift instead. We walked towards the hotel and was unable to get our suitcases up the initial three flights of stairs. Thankfully, a member of the public helped us with this. We then spent 10 minutes attempting to locate the lift, asking several guests where it was. They all said there was no lift, with one guest commenting that the staff had also lied to them upon arrival about the hotel having a lift. We then returned to reception to ask again for help with our suitcases up the next two flights of narrow stairs. They once again, told us no. We attempted to lift the cases and it was genuinely impossible to get up the stairs. We asked for another room on the ground floor which was once again refused. We checked out after about 20 minutes, having asked reception for help on several occasions. We reported this to Agoda who ordered the Marian to refund us. The hotel did not reply to any subsequent emails, to either Agoda or myself. It's also worth nothing that the advertised breakfast is just coffee and toast.

I love it!! Nice architecture with a rooted history. All the pictures displayed and the books here tell you about this historical stay. But for disabled or people who hv trouble walking up stairs, advisable to ask for ground room. Walkable to Kuching city amd waterfront. Near to everything, attractions, motorcycle rental, mall.

Room OK but small, very nice swimming pool, but awful breakfast (very poor coffee and tea and juice, no eggs, just a few things like bread and peanut butter). Nice terrasse with good view. The restaurant downstairs didn't offer outdoor tables, only indoors. You can't simply order food to the waiters: you have to go through a QR code process: This is a poor UX for me. The food was OK but not delicious. Decorations are very nice.

Interesting historical boutique hotel with a unique ambiance, but unfortunately a bad experience spoilt the potential for an enjoyable stay. Basically I was insulted when I mentioned a problem at the hotel. This made me lose my cool, especially when no apology followed. I requested that the manager to please contact me to discuss the situation (confirmed they had my WhatsApp and Room number) but of course that never happened. Something is horribly wrong with the management of the hotel if they believe their customers are wrong and they don’t want to listen. PS The receptionist on the first night however was perfect and welcoming!
