The Marian sits atop a hill in the heart of town surrounded by the busiest and oldest streets in Kuching, just a few minutes’ walk from the Kuching Waterfront, Main Bazaar, and Carpenter Street (old Chinatown). Wake up to the hustle and bustle of Kuching life from the clanking of hawker stalls to its vibrant surroundings of night activities from nearby eateries and drinking outlets. Experience colonial Kuching in this uniquely restored 3-storey mansion built in 1885. A labour of love, with its many wooden stairs and intricate timber features salvaged and retained! With its important history and timber architecture, a readaptive use of a former all-girls boarding school led to the creation of The Marian. On April 16 I cancelled my booking. On April 17 the hotel told me that the reservation was cancelled and they redound me because my booking was with cancellation free. Today on June 1 I have not yet received the money!!!! I have written many emails and they have not answered nothing! Be careful when you make a reservation you will have to pay I advance....

The kind owner of this property went out of her way to arrange for me to stay here during the Sarawak gov lock down of Covid-19, where most hotels were shut. The Marian is a characterful old building, modernised with an interesting history. I ended up spending a month here whilst I was waiting to get a flight home. As the only guest, I felt like it was my private residence! I had the pool to myself. The hotel doesn't offer meals, but they do provide a small light breakfast and water every day. However, there is a wonderful restaurant on site, called the Granery, where I could get my coffees and lunchtime/evening meals if I wanted. This was indeed a necessary bonus! The staff were a friendly bunch and incredibly helpful taking care of me and went out of their way to support my stranded foreigner helplessness. I felt very welcomed and in a way the Marian became a home for me over this month. It is a great location, in the center of town, yet unlike the other big hotels, it retains its homely feel with the added benefit of a sweet garden, which felt like a sanctuary during a stressful time. The rooms were very clean, simple and nicely decorated in the style of the building, yet modernised. Internet was also available.

If you love rustic and quaint hotels, this is IT. I booked a standard room with queen bed. The room was simply but adequately furnished and most importantly, clean and comfortable. The bathroom is more modern. Great location, walking distance to a lot of cafes. The hotel has fantastic sitting areas to chill and read a book. I read a lot of reviews about the noise but fortunately for me, I didn’t get much of that. For me the traffic noise was also tolerable. Any noise that I had encountered late night was due to inconsiderate guests which cannot be faulted to the hotel. Very friendly and professional reception staff. Love, love, love the place. Will definitely want to visit again.

A lovely hotel with great architecture and antique furnishings. Centrally located and walking distance to most places. There are plenty of eating options nearby. Wonderful staff and always ready to help. We upgraded from a standard to a pool terrace king room. The room was much larger and nicer than a standard. We enjoyed relaxing on the terrace overlooking the pool. The pool was great and definitely a bonus. Basic breakfast was included. Wifi was weak.

surely the worst kuching hotel for noise! if you don't want to sleep, there is the beautiful swimming pool. too noisy, cardboard wall,. average reception,. too bad, because the house is very beautiful. but too expensive to sleep pad.
