Welcome to Basaga! Basaga is located in Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak in Malaysia on the island of Borneo, an island long known for its rich history, culture and eco-tourism. Our property is a truly unique hotel and travel accommodation concept with a great environment and almost resort-like relaxing atmosphere, unlike any that is currently available in the urban Kuching area. Nestled in a secluded, well wooded private property just a mere 7-minute drive away from the City center, Basaga features an exclusive number of 33 well-appointed rooms with full in-room amenities, an annex which houses a private dormitory and leisure facilities contained on the property grounds for our guests' convenience. Basaga's innovative room products and range of services can accommodate the varying needs of tourists and travelers, offering good service, private seclusion with great value for money. It’s more than just a hotel - it’s your residence while in Sarawak.

Seriously this is the worst hotel I ever seen in my life. I'm booking this hotel because of the positive reviews. They gave me room 23. every two minutes, the loud water pump noises will start pumping and it is very disturbing. The air-conditioning remote control is not working, I have to go to the reception to change three times until I get the one that is working. Hot water is not working as well. There is something wrong with the switches and the blanket is smelly.

The only way I can explain the massive discrepancy between some of the commentaries and our experience is that there may be a big difference between ground floor and verandah Rooms. The ones we saw are not as advertised. We were assigned a courtyard room to begin with. It was smelly, dirty and mouldy. Even the towels were dirty! There was no door between the toilet and the bedroom and the outside shower was poorly maintained. The air conditioning didn’t work and the fan rattled all night. I asked to move to another room in the morning which was poolside ground floor. It was ‘ nicer’ but filthy. We checked out and stayed at the Marian which was much nicer.

Came with my wife and a group of friend to spend a night here, the place is very relaxing. Sea water are consider clean. During the low tide, you can walk far from the beach towards the sea, my wife and I spend some time catching fish, prawn crab and other sea creature from the water pods. There are place for you to do barbecue and some activities. The swimming pool are also clean if you prefer to swim in fresh water. I get to fly kites with my friends too

A lovely place to base yourself with a nice pool, bar and restaurant. The rooms are basic but comfortable. The service however, disappointingly dishonest. Brandon was fantastic though if trips around Kuching are needed. Highly recommend his service, just not those of the counter staff.

We stayed here for 3 nights total but not consecutive. 1st night of a 2 week holiday with The Great Projects. Lovely place, comfortable room & bathroom. Basic compared to the UK but completely fine. Friendly & helpful staff especially the chef Christine who remembered my mum & I every time we stayed, took time to chat with us & ask how our trip was going. The second & 3rd night stays the rooms were larger & slightly better looked after/fresher/maintained. We had been staying in very basic accommodation in the jungle so Basaga was absolute luxury on our last night! The courtyard at night is lovely, the pool is clean & the food very nice. The gift shop has some cute things, little wooden cats & the Orangutan project t-shirts, natural candles etc. Along with snacks & a few medical/toiletries. But the souvenirs aren't displayed well in the shop & not great visible pricing with the girls at reception not being sure on price sometimes so that could be improved. 30 minute drive from Semenggoh wildlife centre where we were very lucky to see 2 mother Orangutans with babies & a large male. 10 min drive to Kuching city which is a nice place to walk along the waterfront & get some souvenirs & the cabs are cheap. I would definitely stay here again & recommend friends. Very reasonably priced in all aspects. There was unfortunately some building work going on across the road which was a little noisy & made our last afternoon slightly less relaxing but that cannot be helped & not the Basaga hotel's fault at all.

Very good place to stay when your in Kuching.Nice rooms, pool and restaurant for a fine meal. Also very kind staff. And for tours there is Brandon, took us for a private tour into the jungle and a few night in a locale Longhouse. A very good tour for us thanx to Brandon. And also after tours he keeps in touch for more helpfull tips. Knows good restaurants for breakfast, lunch and diner. So for a good and relaxing stay you have to go to The Basaga and ask for Brandon to go and make fine tours and have a good stay.

We stayed twice in this hotel, one time groundfloor next to the pool, witch was perfect, the second time on top of the reception, witch was a bit to noisy because lots of people stayed late in the restaurant. This is a very nice hotel with a perfect refreshing pool, just outside the center of Kuching.

Basaga Holiday Residences is a beautiful small hotel with a great communal and rainforest-like vibe. It is situated around 8 minutes from Kuching city centre. The traffic to and from the hotel and can be very hectic around rush hour, so you may want to make plans around this. After a smooth check-in, we were allocated a room on the upper floor that overlooked the pool. It had fully functioning aircon as well as a fan above the bed. We had no problems whatsoever with any insects inside the room. The room is basic yet spacious, and provides everything you need. All facilities were in working order. We loved using the pool at this hotel; we had just arrived from a busy 4 days in KL and greatly appreciated the more relaxed vibe. I would say this hotel also has a fantastic communal feel to it where it is very easy to socialise and meet other guests. Unfortunately, my stomach wasn’t in the best state upon arriving so I cannot comment on the dinner, I only went down for a drink (all reasonably priced). The restaurant is a great place to spend the later evenings as it is a really social atmosphere. We also met Brendon, who runs the hotel. Our conversation with him was very nice until we started discussing our future plans in Borneo. He seemed to almost completely disapprove of all our future plans. The worst of this was when it came to discussing Kota Kinabalu – we planned to climb the mountain followed by relaxing at Gaya Island Resort (both highly recommend, feel free to read my reviews) – but this turned to a rather uncomfortable discussion on Filipinos. For those who don’t know, there are a large number of Filipino workers at Kota Kinabalu, but Brendon claimed that none of them could be trusted. He then went on and recommended to cancel our reservation with Gaya Island Resort due to the high risk of being kidnapped. This conversation thus left a rather sour taste in our mouths and we finished the evening rather concerned, leading us to do some research to evaluate his views! I still hold that he is an incredibly approachable guy; I am not surprised at all to read the multitude of positive experiences with him, so it’s a shame I can’t say the same. We also ate lunch one day at the hotel which was okay after having a lazy morning by the hotel pool. We were surprised to see one girl (maybe 16?) doing EVERYTHING. That is, cooking, cleaning, taking orders, serving drinks etc. I ordered the chicken pie, which came out okay. Good western food is generally quite hard to find in Malaysia, but Basaga did it okay. Overall, I am very happy with our stay at Basaga. It’s fantastic value and provides a lovely atmosphere that differs greatly from other more closed-off hotels.

My friends ask me why I chose this B&B, actually I not very sure guess is because of the green surrounding. We are very satisfied with 4 days 3 nights plus the upgrade 😬 The reception is friendly and helpful, recommend 2 package for us, the orangutan visit & river dolphin watching. Love both tours very much, love the vibes during our visit and the scenery along the trip. The tour guide - Brandon Lim is very knowledgable and full of stories. It’s make our trip so meaningful and memorable.
