Detailed Reviews
We travelled from Kuching to visit the Menyang Tais Longhouse. After a long drive, with stops to see a local market and a pepper farm, we arrived at the reservoir where we were met by the boatmen to take us to the longhouse. The ride across the lake was refreshing and followed by a hot and sticky climb up to the longhouse where we were welcomed with tea and biscuits. The longhouse is living home, not a tourist attraction, allowing you to see everyday life. The accommodation was on mattresses laid out in someone's front room, so basic but with fans and mosquito nets provided. The bathrooms were also basic, two shared toilets and wash basin. In the evening we were cooked a generous meal served with very generous quantities of rice wine. Followed by an exchange of gifts (which are shared out amongst all the residents) and a Q&A session to learn about their way of life. The many chickens gave a loud wake-up call and after breakfast we hiked through the forest and fields to the lake for the return journey.

We had a fantastic time staying at the Menyang Tais Longhouse which was organised through Borneo Adeventures! The tribe have so much history to Borneo and dealing with an ever changing society.... for example, their children (now all mainly sent to boarding school) have given them mobile phones which only get single in one spot...therefore, only answered via loud speaker!
We loved the opportunity to meet with the chief and stay with his family! The noises, smells and heat were all real! These people build their homes, hunt their food, grow their crops and do it all so effortlessly! Such talent.
The longhouse has solar powered showers and western toilets for their guests which the government put in (something very recent). I don't think the tribe really use these as they're so used to their way of life but appreciated for the guests!
Our guide- Edwin was fantastic in answering all our questions and translating the best he could for us. Everyone was so welcoming and I think they really enjoy having visitors as they're all so hospitable! Really recommend this authentic experience which is very rare in today's life!

This was an amazing travel experience for us. My wife and I travelled to Menyang Tais longhouse for a homestay with another couple (from Holland). We had two guides from Borneo Adventure. It was a 5 hour trip from Kuching by van and 15 minutes by longboat.
We arrived mid-afternoon and were greeted by the Iban headman. The community threw a party to welcome us - grilled steak (grassfed!), grilled chicken, grilled pork, rice wine and whiskey. After a rest and a walk around the site (a working farm in the jungle), we shared a meal with the community (local dishes & ingredients). We had a Q&A session with the headman about their way of life. We shared some rice wine and rice whiskey. This is not a hotel - this is their home in the Borneo jungle.
The next day, a tracker and our guide took us on a trek to show us how they live, work and eat in the jungle. We also saw some sites of cultural significance.

Gracias!!!!

Wow. An amazing experience we will never forget. Absolutely one of the best decisions we made to visit here. We stayed with the chief and his family, enjoyed an evening with the other families and took a walk across their land. A wonderful learning experience amongst beautiful people. A long drive from Kuching (4hrs) then a 30-min boat ride - but oh so worth it. On the way we stopped for food in a local market which was fun then lunch which was delicious. We ate with the chief and families - lovely food. A real experience, you come away feeling you have seen how people in the forest truly live. We loved this trip.

Esperienza divertente e indimenticabile!
