A hotel that used to be amazing as far as i can see. Now it needs a serious renovation. Tiles all over the swimming pool area are gone, a small chinese place where i think people pray had collapsed under all sort of crap from the jungle and when you enter the resort there used to be a nice area which gave a nice impression i think, but now it s just a shelter left with crap underneith it. On the left of the hotel next to the beach is a nice walkway, but we didn t go there because stuff from the forrest basically blocked it. The location was nice though and people were friendly.

The resort is a bit run down , past it’s heyday. Bungalow rooms top of hill were the best with beautiful views, stylish interiors and the better of the two pools. However you had to catch a courtesy bus back to reception area to use the restaurant and bar. Inconvenient for some. Our room was large with separate lounge room. Satisfactory and centrally located but our daughter’s room in the east part of resort was backpacker quality, doors that wouldn’t open, mould in bathroom and generally run down and dated. Both pools had slime on walls and an inoperative pool bar. A saltwater crocodile was spotted nearby so swimming in the ocean was not viable. Restaurant had a choice of western and Malay dishes and were satisfactory. Bar with pool tables closed. Not much to do in area and about 35 Km’s from Kuching.

We spent two nights here, in superior poolside rooms, whilst travelling around Sarawak. Rooms were very spacious. Huge, very comfortable bed with good quality bedding and very quiet, so slept really well. Aircon worked well. Not the best of welcomes in that guests are given a long list of rules ar regulations on arrival. However, all staff were really friendly, helpful and attentive at all times. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. We ate at the hotel restaurant one evening were impressed with the food - the chef was happy to do vegetarian versions of many dishes. I'd red some negative reviews before we arrived and so was a bit apprehensive. It's true to say that this hotel is showing its age and could do with updating in several areas but it is set in a beautiful location with lovely views, has 2 pools and was nice and quiet when we were there so, overall, we felt it was well worth going to.

Nestled an hour's drive away from the town of Kuching, Damai Beach Resort is home to a beautiful stretch of beach from where you can view stunning sunsets. The resort rooms itself leave a lot to be desired. Our hilltop seaview deluxe room had a showerhead issue, a phone that doesn't work, and no hot water. We were given a different room upon request and while this room had everything in working order, its door was a nightmare to open. Most times we appear to be trying to break into our own room as the door would not budge unless we throw our shoulders at it. There is also not enough power plugs to charge our devices. I understand that this resort is a few decades old but hotels must keep up with the times. Some tips for travelers: Food: Apart from the in-house cafe, you can find food at Damai Central (DC) which is walking distance from the resort. If you want western food, Escobar is between the resort and DC. You can get to it through the beach when the tide is low. For tourists with their own transport and who want to enjoy seafood, there are plenty of seafood restaurants in Buntal, maybe 10-15 minutes away from the resort. Things to do: Behind DC is the Sarawak Cultural Village which I highly recommend you visit. They have cultural performances at 11.30am and 4.00pm daily. Buy your tickets online to get RM10 off per pax, and you can just walk there from the resort. If you drive, parking is limited. Arrive early to get seats. All seats are good seats to view the stage from but if you arrive late, you have to make due with the aisle. Yes, it is quite popular. Spa: Book early. Convenience store: There is one opposite Cafe Satang, and a 7-11 at DC. Which rooms to pick: If you want privacy, hilltop suites are great. Block 15 and 16 are closer to the hilltop pool. Block 14 and 12 are closer to the spa (which is at Block 13) and Block 11 is far from everyone else. To get to the reception and the beach, you can press a call button (twice pls) at the designated spots for the shuttle buses to come pick you up or you can walk down a really tall flight of steps (never attempted it, can't comment). Private cars are not allowed up to the hilltop rooms as there are no spaces for you to park. Chalets are walking distance to the beach and the cafe. If you have family members with mobility issues, opt for the chalets. All the other types really need you to walk quite far. All in all, the beach is great and surpasses any misgivings one could have of this place.

Never in my life have I tasted a steak as terrible as the one I had at Satang Cafe. The moment the food arrived, I was appalled by its ghastly presentation; it was utterly unpresentable! And to add insult to injury, the greens that accompanied it were unappetizing and tasteless. I couldn't help but wonder who the so-called "chef" was, and how he could dare serve such an abomination. Clearly, he needs extensive training! A lot of flies too. However, I must say that the service staff was excellent, especially Agus. He was attentive, friendly, and accommodating throughout the entire meal. Despite my dissatisfaction with the food, Agus made every effort to make my dining experience enjoyable. Job well done, Agus! I can only hope that in the future, the food will be as good as the service.

You know things aren't right when there are 12 items on a list telling you all the rules and regulations of the resort greeting you when you arrive. Although rule one says maximum 2 adults and 2 children allowed per room, we still got charged RM10 per day for one extra towel. Only two are provided and don't you expect more. You're also banned from bringing your own food and drinks. This includes snacks apparently. Real friendly warning states if items are found they will be confiscated. Penalty of RM500 imposed. Thankfully the staff don't seem to enforce this. The floor in our chalet was sinking. We were previously in a room in the main block and the state of that room was only slightly better. All the rooms need to be refurbished. They are tired and in disrepair. On the plus side, the mattresses, pillows, and bedsheets seem to be new and very comfortable. The towels are a sad burnt orange and have definitely seen better days. But of course cost an extra RM10 per day if you need an extra one. Most of the staff are very friendly but they are likely overworked. Room service takes an hour at least and the dishes will remain outside overnight even after you call to say they are ready for collection. Food is also quite sad. Which is a real shame as it could be a real drawcard for city folk looking for a lovely spot to dine. It is still a nice location to get away for a quick stay. In times of Covid-19 especially, you do feel sorry that this is such a far cry from the top resort in the state any more.

We spent a week here due to having booked a timeshare week. The lobby was impressive and opulent but our room was very dated. It was up the hill from the main complex, so we walked down ok but needed a ride back up - due to the heat and a hip problem. So it was quite inconvenient. The room itself had comfortable beds, small tv only able to get local stations and we got a lot of disturbance from the person in the room above - forever scraping furniture across the floor, esp 11-12 at night! The staff in the whole resort were a delight esp Liz, Carolina, Agus and Fathi. However, it was very difficult to get accurate information about places to visit. We asked if they run a minivan to Semmengoh to see the Orangutans but they don't. It cost us about 300 rm to get there and back by taxi and entrance. We would happily have paid more and arranged for more pax, for the convenience of an organized trip. We asked about a local river cruise - they booked it for 10am. Do not do this Santubong river cruise - it was highly unsafe and we didn't see any wildlife. The guide said you have to go in late afternoon. The resort should not associate themselves with this - 175 rm pp - the river cruise guy may as well have just robbed us in the beginning and saved us 2 hours of sitting in the Borneo heat in a heap of sh## boat and seeing nothing. Also the reception supervisor assured us that there was an ATM on the way, which was a lie. On to the meals - the breakfast was a buffet of gourmet delights. Some people get it free with room but we paid 20rm pp. However, we loved the choices - even an egg counter, where you can get freshly cooked eggs. Other meals not so good. One lunchtime around 1pm when we were the only diners I ordered a salad which was very basic and took 20mins. My husband had ordered a sandwich and after 50 mins still hadn't arrived! The delightful waitress said the bread had just been delivered and so he should get his lunch soon! We cancelled it and walked out. We never went back for lunch or dinner. Sometimes we went to the resort bar and ordered a meal from there which came from the restaurant but got there to the bar quicker than if you were sitting in the restaurant. Mostly we just went to the restaurant next to the resort - which could not be faulted for food, drinks, service or views! Why can Cafe Satang not do the same? At the hilltop is the spa where you can get a massage and there is an amazing peaceful pool there. The resort runs a continuous shuttle there. The massages were amazing.

Stayed for 2 nights to attend a team building seminar. I was allocated at 1 of the rooms not far from the swimming pool. The room is relatively large & I must say they have upgraded the beddings with lots of pillows. However, the room is quite dated including the towels though the basic necessities were all met. The room rates are overpriced. Meals not that fantastic.

Hotel is old, quite run down. Many things need to repair. My room been interrupted twice to repair the room flooring which we did not report. Why can't they repair when there were no room guests ? Despite we paid Rm450 a night, there were no toothbrush. We were asked to buy from hotel convenient shop which closed at 9 pm. No outside food and drink allowed in the hotel. We were questioned by security at gate. They charge for that. Everything costed money, including any extra toiletries. Beach need to clean up otherwise the sea view is nice.

Rooms are clean but dated. They charge additional for everyhing from a bucket of ice to baby cots. Even for late checkout, they charge RM30 per hour. Breakfast was so so but they had Sarawak laksa and kolok mee. Access to the beach is very sketchy. The cement staircase is badly maintained and they used rocks which can be dangerous. Wifi is provided for free but is it non existent as most of the time, you can't connect to the network.
