I only ended up here when Agoda cancelled 2 bookings at 2 different preferred hotels. I put up this review on Agoda, it looks like they didn't approve it. I hope other travellers would benefit from this review from my recent stay. 1. Positives: The room is spacious and it is a building on its own. The water pressure is great. 2. Negatives: The room smells of roaches. The hallway smells of damp carpet. The plumbing causes for the bathroom to be wet at all times. Water was yellow-ish. 3. Improvements: It needs complete refurbishment.
After Sibu (and before Penang, Alor Setar, Taiping, Kuala Trengganu etc.), I flew to Kuching and stayed for one night in the Hotel Grand Continental Kuching. The probably Malaysian Malay (lady) reception staff who checked me in, was actually one of the most friendly and welcoming reception staff that i had met anywhere, up to now. My pre-booked and pre-paid room (again via a Dutch hotel booking website, back in Amsterdam, for just 24 euros all-in!) was really spacious and comfortable. Mr. Leslie, the night reception staff even gave me a completely free late check-out until 4 p.m. the next afternoon, when i mentioned to him that my Air Asia flight from Kuching to Penang would only depart at 6.20 p.m.. Terima Kasih (Thank You Very Much), Encik Leslie and the Hotel Grand Continental Kuching!!!. Highly recommended!👍…
This hotel is a little old in that the decor feels like it is from the 1980's; the corridor & room carpets all looked tired, although they are well vacuumed & clean. The bedroom was very spacious, aircond worked well. But the ventilation of the bathroom was poor; there isn't proper air extraction, and any water on the floor would not dry unless wiped. The lobby-cum-cafe was well laid out. The breakfast & buffet were ok, but preparation could be so much better .. for example, the scrambled egg came out in a huge bowl .. I mean huge bowl. the texture was like porridge.. The eggs should probably be cooked in smaller amounts, and brought out 4-5 times during the course of the morning. The waiters were polite and helpful, but an F&B manager was not visible in 6-7 visits over 3 days. The front desk personnel were helpful and great, in particular the concierge personnel. The price per night was modest, hence good value for money.…
The staff are great, they look like long time staff who work comfortably and treat guests with Sarawian hospitality. I stayed in the family room, the double was a king and there was plenty of space to add 1 more bed and play footie besides. The bathroom is spotless. No strange smells or spots. It was a non smoking room and genuinely did not have any smoky after smell. Everything works well. The hotel is built with old everlasting finishes but it is extremely well run and has the graciousness of space newer hotels lack. Waterfront is a 5min 4rm grab away. Can walk if you dont mind heat and uneven pavements. There are food, massage options, laundry and 7-11 across the street
Had a chance to stay at this hotel. A old hotel with new look and refurbishment. Relax and nice place to stay. But unfortunately the lift on right a quite scary. Stop al level 4 although not pushing the button. Otherwise great and nice. Food are fair. Services are superb. Front desk are helpful.
Overall stay was good.a little bit quiet.room service menu was good but varieties can be improved.check in and check out process was fast eventhough they were slight issue.no worries on the issue though.sejadah is available in the room for Muslim tenants.breakfast acceptable & tasty.hair dryer, iron & ironing board, complimentary drinking water & bathroom amenities are available.
This is a pleasant hotel with friendly staff. Decor is a bit tired and the breakfast could be better e.g. a range of teas rather than just weak black tea. Pool is about 15m long, but doesn't open till 8am - quite late if you want a swim before breakfast!
mind you that this is an old hotel. looks new from outside but when you get inside you'll soon realise that this is an old hotel. old but well preserved. room is super spacious! i was pretty surprised when i entered the rooms. bathrooms is also nice. they have bathtub with pretty decent amenities. breakfast is pretty decent. standard. parking space is also the good side from this hotel. i had no probling parking my car. anyway this hotel location may not be quite convinience since it was not close to any city attraction. but i guess it doest matter.
The description "unfussy rooms with adequate amenities" fits perfectly for the property. While most would call the place outdated, i personally found the room to be rustic and reminiscent of the rooms i used to share with family members during my adolescent years when we went traveling. The staff did a good job of making us feel welcome each time we went about the premises and were rather accommodating to our requests throughout the duration of our stay. Special shout out to Mr Robert. He truly is a testament to front office hospitality and professionalism.
Central location, spacious rooms and comfortable (good size) bed, combined with reasonable charges are the key factors why I gave this hotel four points, even though as I approached the hotel from far away, I was a bit concerned looking the exterior look - some parts of the wall were infested by fungi and compared to the next door and opposite hotels, it did look a bit old.and run down. But the hotel check-in staff were welcoming and helpful and the room were okay. I asked for new wing as a friend of mine who stayed there last year has advised me as he claimed that rooms in the old wind were not as well maintained. When I posted this question to the counter staff, I was given to understand that the old wing has just be renovated so it may well be okay from now on. One short coming of the hotel is the limited (free) parking lots as guests may have to park at chargeable car park next door when the hotel has functions such as corporate events and wedding. This happened to me thrice during my three nights stay. So it is as good as not having complimentary parking for those who drive in and out at least twice a day. Given the fact that there are plenty of eateries around the hotel, within walking distance of 10 minutes, it is safe not to pay extra for the buffet breakfast when booking the hotel. In general, it is a hotel I would consider returning should I visit Kuching again.…
