Always Growing 79 Guest House is centrally located in Kuching city. We are just 20 minutes from the Kuching International Airport. Always Growing 79 guesthouse is strategically located at the heart of Kuching city and only 5 minutes walk to Waterfront, food & entertainment outlets, shopping complex, souvenir shop, major hotels and bus station. Our standard rooms are spacious with attached bathroom.
Stayed here for 3 nights as our base for the Rainforest World Music Festival. Location-wise, it is 5 out 5 stars. The guesthouse is within walking distance to the waterfront and Padang Merdeka. It is less than 100 metres from Plaza Merdeka. Went straight from the airport to the Plaza Merdeka to purchase our shuttle bus tickets to the festival venue. We walked to the guesthouse in less than 5 minutes from the Plaza. We arrived around 10 a.m. at the guest house, hoping for an early check-in, but the rooms were still occupied (which is fine with us as we were early). The receptionist was friendly and offered to take our bags up to our room once it is ready. We left our bags at the reception and proceed to walk around the city. There are plenty of food options nearby and the mall is just 5 minutes walk. We only returned to the guesthouse nearing midnight after spending the day at the festival. Our bags were still at the reception. The manager was there to greet us and gave us our keys and access codes for the front door. As we entered the room, we were greeted by mosquitoes. Lots of mosquitoes. The staff gave us a bottle of Ridsect to deal with it. One of the towels provided had stains on it. As we were too exhausted, we did not bother to go down a second time to ask for a new towel. We rate the cleanliness of the room 2 out of 5. The carpets feels and looked like it was not vacuumed. There were also stains on the bathroom floor. I did not take any pictures as I was ready to just crash and sleep. If you are a light sleeper, you may have trouble sleeping here as the walls are thin. The guesthouse is just next to the road and a church is just on the opposite of it. We can hear the vehicles speeding up the hill and church bells. Not a problem for me, but just as a heads up to other travellers. On the second night, we got back late around 2 a.m. to the guesthouse. As I was getting ready for bed, I could hear voices from outside. Our room was directly above the lobby and there seem to be some guests not able to enter the front door. So the security is good, as only guest with access codes could enter the place but at the same time it shows how thin the walls are since we could hear people from outside talking. We actually asked the receptionist for help to book a taxi for us on our last day there. We had an early morning flight and had to get to the airport by 5 a.m. (we wanted to use Uber/Grab, but was afraid that no drivers will be available at 4 in the morning). The taxi did not came though (we asked for pickup time to be 4 a.m., waited in front of the guesthouse at 3.55 a.m. until around 4.15 a.m.) We end up trying our luck and hailed a ride using Grab and there was just the one car that was in the vicinity. Also, if you do need a taxi, you can walk to the Merdeka Palace Hotel which is about 5 minutes from the guesthouse. We would have walked to the Merdeka Hotel if it were not raining that morning. …

Dear Guest, We are sorry for all the inconvenience caused. We did not expect to be in this way. First of all, i bet you enjoyed your stay with us. We do tell our other guest not to be noisy at the living room upstairs as it was already late at night. We cannot escape from the church bell due to their schedule set. Our management always remind the staff to keep the bathrooms and rooms clean all the time. We are still dealing with the thin wall situation as they have not been fix lately. We have already try to keep mosquitoes away but due to the drain outside the guesthouse, it might have mosquitoes flying all over the place without us knowing. My staff was suppose to book the taxi for you but end up the taxi driver forget all of sudden. We are sorry for the inconvenience that cause early in the morning. Lastly, Our management hope that you have enjoyed your stay as well as RWMF 2017 in Kuching. Have a wondeful day. Thank you for your kind review at least we can do something about it now. Will see you in the future Best regards, Kimberly Jimmy Owner

Jewels has a peaceful and nice atmosphere. Private rooms and shared bathrooms are perfectly clean. The best is the staff who are always happy to help! Thanks to all of you! The guesthouse is perfectly located in walking distance to the waterfront, nice restaurants and busses e.g. to Bako or the Urang Utan Sanctuary. I would definitely stay here again!

We've stayed here about one week and enjoyed the hotel a lot. The staff was always very kind and helped us alot with organising the trips to Bako and ferry to Sibu. The room was clean with a comfortable bed and a/c. Also the shared bathrooms were always clean (toilet paper was always filled up) and hot shower was working very well. We really enjoyed the place. The location is just perfect - in the heart of Kuching. For sure we would come again.

The place is clean and strategically located. Though the rooms are rather small it was reasonable for the price we paid and didnt matter as we only used it to sleep at nights. However, beware if climbing stairs is a problem as the rooms are only accessible by way of a steep flight of stairs. The management are friendly and helpful

We had a good time. Awesome staff very welcoming and helpful. We rented a double room very modest but clean and quiet. To get there just head to Upper China Street, Main Bazaar. The location is very convenient within walking distance to everywhere in Kuching. The staff was always available to give us information about transport and places to visit.

This place was in a great location and within walking distance to most places of interest. The room (2) was ok but smelled of cigarette smoke and no housekeeping for the 6 days we were there but we did ask for some clean towels. Every morning we were woken at 5am with someone getting up and walking around. Bells were ringing at 6am from the church most mornings and your on a main road so traffic is also bad. To get in you have to ring a door bell which goes on forever 24hrs a day. The walls are really thin so you hear everything in the whole building. The day staff are really friendly and helpful but the evening lady is grumpy just opens the door and no "hello". It's cheap and ok for a night if your a heavy sleeper. I would recommend Indah cafe and home stay in the same road, great breakfast and a very nice couple.…

Cheers! The room 2 smelled is not from the cigarette but it is from the silicon of the sink that our management fix a few days ago. We do housekeeping but you have request after 3 days of using. We love to serve our guest better and comfortable. We did not expected one of my staff to be so grumpy that time. Thank you for spending our holidays with us. We appreciate it a lot.

Cheap & nasty!!! The double rooms in this guesthouse are beyond small (literally a double mattress touching 3 of the rooms 4 walls, a small 60cm wide walkway and a bathroom the size of a broom closet), they are filthy and lacking ventilation (no window). Our rooms bathroom sink was caked in mold, the piping was leaking and the "free toiletries" consisted of a bottle of untitled soap and a used bar of shower soap (gross). The room itself, had a stagnant smell due to the size of the room and the lack of a window/ventilation. The sheets were filthy, the walls marked with grime and cobwebs. We left this guesthouse after just one night! For the same price and a similar location, I would suggest staying at My House Guesthouse - we enjoyed our stay here very much.

Thank you for your reviews. We are now still in progress of renovating the rooms. Our management is still in progress of fixing the ventilation in a proper way. The soap is a 2 in 1 shampoo and body from a proper factory of soap. Just that we pour in a smaller bottle to sort it out perfectly. We will fix all of our rooms properly.

This is a great clean and cozy guesthouse with friendly staff. We stayed here after our visit to Bako National Park and it was a really nice break from the jungle. It's not far from the centre of Kuching and is a short walk from the river where you can grab some great food at night. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse and stay there again!
