The room was very small and there was nowhere to put our clothes excepted a coat hanger. No wardrobe nor shelves. The pool and garden were very nice. The food was good. There is a mosque very close therefore you will be awake at 5am. You can have an old bicycle for free for a few hours.
Like most people, I read reviews before making a booking. I saw a review that there're bed bugs here but I dismissed it as it is just one review and the problem could have been with the guest. That proved to be a great mistake as I've experienced the exact same thing - dozens of bed bug bites on my hands and feet and the management not willing to take any responsibility, even implying that it's not their problem. This prompts me to write this review to warn fellow travelers against this place. This place may look very good from the outside, but the inside is a different story. On the first night of my stay there, I woke up at 3am due to intense itch even though I was dead tired. I couldn't sleep thereafter and discovered that there are more than 40 bites on my hands and feet. One can only imagine how many bed bugs there are to result in so many bites. Judging by the management's nonchalant attitude, this is not a surprise. Aside from the bed bugs, here are the pros and cons about this place. Pros: - friendly staff who are helpful and helped us book maxim cab which is cheaper than Grab, also prepared sandwiches for us as breakfast when we needed to leave early for a trip to Semadang river before breakfast time - looks good in photos - good wifi - clean pool - clean bedsheet and toilet - nice pandan scent in room - aircon works well and bed is comfortable (except that it has bed bugs) - allows us to leave our luggages there after checkout as our flight is at night - near to Mount Santubong, Sarawak Cultural Village and Kuching Wetlands National Park so its good if you want to explore those areas Cons: - the room is only clean in terms of bedding and floor. Anything above is not cleaned. We were greeted by ants crawling on the bed frame when we first entered the room (housekeeping gave us insecticide to spray on them). The wooden frame on top of the bed is very dusty and has spider webs on it. The fan is also very dusty so we didn't turn it on. There's also a lot of dust on the decoration for the lamps and on the ceiling which is understandably hard to clean, but when you lie on your bed and look up, you can see a lot of dust. - a huge lizard runs around the toilet and makes sounds at intervals. There's also a big spider in the toilet. - food selection is limited and the taste is so so. Need to wait for some time for food to be served after informing the staff to serve. - location is quite far away from Kuching city (about an hour) and a one way cab ride costs around RM50. Doesn't make sense to stay if you plan to explore Kuching city or other areas down South such as Semenggoh Nature Reserve (to see orangutan) and Semadang river (for kayaking). - food is not allowed in the room and footwear is not allowed in the room, bar and lounge - the geese are rather noisy - everything here is just rather old except for the renovated toilets - risk of getting bitten by bed bugs (you have been warned)…
We loved our stay at the Village house. The house was full of character and perfect to relax in the pool or lounge areas after the outdoor activities around Sarawak. Laurence and the team helped organise our activities including Bako(~40min cab) and Semmenggoh (~1hr cab) and gave plenty of great local tips. The Food on site was great with a good range of local dishes. We would definitely recommend staying hear if you want to explore Sarawak and don’t want to stay in Kuching. We hope to revisit one day!

It's really a nice place.. Quiet and calming. Although I personally think that it cost more than it offers but since it is considered a boutique Inn, it's OK for us since we were kinda desperate looking for a weekend gateway lol. The atmosphere is very chill.. The room is small. No TV. If you wish to watch TV you have to go to the library.. More like a small living room on the 2nd floor of main building but no privacy since you have to share with other guests. First come first serve. You came first you control the channel lol. They have a pretty cool rustic looking reading corner.. Which they called it as a library. Insta worthy too. The room is pretty warm during the noon. I advice you not to linger in your bedroom esp during noon otherwise you won't feel the aircond and it's pretty hot. Food selection is not much but it is nicely cooked. I love the Nasi Goreng. If you love spicy food, this is more than adequate level of spicy lol. They're pretty generous with the breakfast. We love it. Never had the chance to swim in the pool. It looks pretty shallow. If you're looking for a place to stay but not expecting too much, this is a nice place. Enjoy your stay! …
Peace of mind! Away from the hustle bustle of city! Great to wake up with birds chipping. Great escape ! Worth the visit!! Great staff and location! Nice displays and not to forget the pool! Indulge into the nature
The pool is very nice, relaxing and fresh. The place was quiet as we were the only customers but with a big group around, it may be noisy as all activities are around the pool and all rooms are located above the pool. Also, please note there is a mosque next door so be ready for an early wake up call! We were very disappointed by the food as there was very little choice (this could be linked to the pandemic) and what we were served was expensive but not good. Service was low, we felt we were not given much attention.
We had the most enjoyable staycation at this well appointed beautiful property tucked away in Santubong. Felt totally relaxed in the lush green & flora, clean spacious room (we took the Putera), great hospitality and chilled by the pool. Staff are attentive and welcoming. In the morning we rode on their bikes, first towards the village crossing Sg tekoyong, and looped around back to Lorong Pantai Puteri towards the beach approx. 7km. Highly recommend to take their bikes. Arrived back at hotel for breakfast and another dip in the pool before check out. Real gem.
The Village House at Santubong embraced me with a tranquil outdoor and healthy environment. The boutique hotel with its colourful & artistic scenery and pool area is located at a stone trow of the authentic fishermen village and beach of Kampung Santubong. The numerous little waterfalls surrounded me with the peace of mind to relax, enjoy today and pick up a book.
I found myself stranded here at the Village House as the only guest during the Covid-19 outbreak, when gov lock down began. The kind owner of the village house allowed me to stay on in this lovely quiet location whilst I waited to get my flight back home. I ended up staying a month. The location of Santubong is a quiet and friendly small village just outside of the city Kuching. I was allowed out to walk locally on the wonderful beach (although you cant swim) and walks into the national forest up Santubong mountain. I spent most of my days relaxing in the pool or working online. The internet connection wasn't great, but sufficed just enough. Although the staff were excellent in cleaning the rooms, it did become a bit frustrating that our communication didn't always work well and I found that the choice of food became very limited. Perhaps outside of Covid-19, food would have been fine? it is a very beautiful property in design, full of peace and relaxation. There is a pretty garden to wander in, lovely designed rooms. I ended up staying in a dorm room which was very affordable and just as comfortable as the standard rooms. The property is about a 2 min walk to the beach/sea. Although you wont be able to swim there due to crocodiles unfortunately. However, there is a lovely pool, so perhaps not so necessary.…
