Hidden down a country lane, just 100 metres from the coastline in the friendly village of Santubong, The Village House offers the tranquility and service that most travellers crave. A stones throw away are the eco tourism hot spots of Mt. Santubong and Kuching Wetlands National Parks as well as the Important Bird Area of Bako-Buntal Bay, so activities abound. The traditional rooms around an internal pool courtyard are decorated with local materials and Sarawak handicrafts. This together with the caring staff ensure that you enjoy the local style and warm hospitality for which Sarawak is famous. To ensure maximum privacy, the property is reserved exclusively for in-house guests and only welcomes guests above the age of 12. Day visitors are required to pre-arrange their escorted visits. The kitchen offers a delectable menu complete with a wide range of drinks and culinary delights. This means that all you need to do is to kick back and enjoy a serenely peaceful getaway.

The Village House at Santubong embraced me with a tranquil outdoor and healthy environment. The boutique hotel with its colourful & artistic scenery and pool area is located at a stone trow of the authentic fishermen village and beach of Kampung Santubong. The numerous little waterfalls surrounded me with the peace of mind to relax, enjoy today and pick up a book.

We stayed during the last week of December, so we enjoyed the Christmas decorations in the tropics. The staff are very helpful and nice.

The small bar and restaurant offers some tasty meals and drinks.

The internet is only accessible near the lobby area, which may be problem if you need connectivity in your room.

It's really a nice place.. Quiet and calming. Although I personally think that it cost more than it offers but since it is considered a boutique Inn, it's OK for us since we were kinda desperate looking for a weekend gateway lol.
The atmosphere is very chill.. The room is small. No TV. If you wish to watch TV you have to go to the library.. More like a small living room on the 2nd floor of main building but no privacy since you have to share with other guests. First come first serve. You came first you control the channel lol. They have a pretty cool rustic looking reading corner.. Which they called it as a library. Insta worthy too.
The room is pretty warm during the noon. I advice you not to linger in your bedroom esp during noon otherwise you won't feel the aircond and it's pretty hot.
Food selection is not much but it is nicely cooked. I love the Nasi Goreng. If you love spicy food, this is more than adequate level of spicy lol. They're pretty generous with the breakfast. We love it.
Never had the chance to swim in the pool. It looks pretty shallow.
If you're looking for a place to stay but not expecting too much, this is a nice place. Enjoy your stay!

The pool is very nice, relaxing and fresh. The place was quiet as we were the only customers but with a big group around, it may be noisy as all activities are around the pool and all rooms are located above the pool. Also, please note there is a mosque next door so be ready for an early wake up call! We were very disappointed by the food as there was very little choice (this could be linked to the pandemic) and what we were served was expensive but not good. Service was low, we felt we were not given much attention.

Our recent stay at the Village House left much to be desired. While the property boasted style and charm, it sorely lacked substance. Despite its hefty price tag, the overall experience fell wellshort of expectations.

The first impression was promising. The swimming pool and surrounding grounds were undeniably beautiful, offering a serene escape. However, this moment of satisfaction quickly gave way to disappointment upon entering the room. The musty odor and noticeable mold were immediate red flags, indicating subpar cleanliness standards. Despite the hotel's claim of being cleaned twice daily, the reality fell short of expectations.

The food was nothing short of atrocious, failing to deliver on even the most basic expectations. It was evident that little care or attention was given to the quality of the meals served.

While Mr. 'Handsome' stood out for his friendly demeanour and genuine hospitality, the remainder of the staff lacked competence.

Considering the exorbitant price tag for Borneo, one would expect a level of excellence that simply was not delivered. In our opinion, this hotel should be priced at most at $25 a night.

Our decision to book this hotel as a last-minute alternative to Bako National Park was regrettable. It failed to offer the respite and comfort we had been seeking. We stayed across 10 hotels during our 3 weeks in Malaysia and this hotel is the sole recipient of less than a 4-star rating.
.
I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel to fellow travellers. Choose wisely and avoid disappointment by staying elsewhere.

Lovely, quiet respite, tucked below Mt. Santubong. Room comes with breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is strangely limited with no fresh fruit or juice. Dinner was ok, not great. Can order ala carte at limited times during the day, or take a bike to one of the local restaurants within a km or 2. The room was lovely, well appointed, clean, and comfortable. The pool was lovely too and the grounds are also lovely. I'd recommend it for a stay, but bring snacks.

We loved our stay at the Village house. The house was full of character and perfect to relax in the pool or lounge areas after the outdoor activities around Sarawak. Laurence and the team helped organise our activities including Bako(~40min cab) and Semmenggoh (~1hr cab) and gave plenty of great local tips. The Food on site was great with a good range of local dishes. We would definitely recommend staying hear if you want to explore Sarawak and don’t want to stay in Kuching. We hope to revisit one day!

Hi there! We found the food prices to be reasonable and the dishes were very tasty. Unfortunately, I just cannot recall the exact price! I should say the price is reasonable for a Westerner, so you will not find a “cheap” option (meaning under $5). If I had to guess, dinners were around $10 US..but it is a guess. If you do stay here, you will want to eat here as well, as you will be in your own little world and a bit far from other options. Yes, I recall several vegetarian options on the menu.
