The Waterfront Hotel enjoys acclaim for its prime location, offering easy access to local attractions and shopping. Many guests laud the spacious rooms with scenic river vistas, though a few suggest the need for modernization. The service generally receives high marks for warmth and attentiveness, despite occasional lapses. While opinions on value and amenities like the pool vary, the hotel's cleanliness and unique atmosphere, complete with cat-themed treats and a resident feline, contribute to its overall charm.

My husband and I enjoyed our 5-night stay here. The hotel is in an excellent location, being attached to the Plaza Medeka Mall which has a number of restaurants available as well as just a short walk to the waterfront area, Chinatown, Carpenter Street, and India Street. Our room was clean and quite spacious, but unfortunately it lacked a dining table. We prefer to get takeaway food and eat in our room, so the lack of a dining surface made this awkward. There was a large chaise longue that wasn't really necessary. Overall, the furniture is dated and a bit worn down. The chaise had some visible stains on it. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious with a large shower that had both a rainfall showerhead and handheld sprayer. On several occasions the handheld sprayer and its base came off of the wall and we had to put it back on. The shower's temperature and were pressure were very good. The sink drained somewhat slowly. One other issue was the room's landline phone. We could not get it to work to make a local call nor were we able to phone the front desk. Although most of these issues are minor, they should not occur at a five-star hotel. We did not try the hotel breakfast, so I can't speak to its value. The hotel staff were all quite welcoming and friendly. We also enjoyed the unique touches of the cat-shaped cookies served with the complimentary tea/coffee/infused water service provided in the lobby and interacting with the hotel's resident kitty. Overall, this was a good place to stay in Kuching.

Location: perfect. It makes it possible to walk on both sides of the river. Museums, temples, etc.
Reception Staff: Effective and friendly.
Common spaces: upon entering the hotel the impression is worse than what we can find in the rest. It is connected by a small hallway to a shopping center.
Room: Bright, and despite facing the street, little noise. Very comfortable bed. It has typical curtains that prevent light from entering.
Bathroom. Large and very bright. Connected to the bedroom by a glass with curtain. Bathrobe and slippers. Good towels. One day we needed clean towels (11:30), they had already done the cleaning and forgot to replenish them. We contacted reception and were informed that it would be impossible to have them until the afternoon.
Breakfast: Exterior and bright room. Coffee machine. Canned orange juice although it could be found naturally from other fruits, for example melon and watermelon. Despite the variety of fruits in the country, it was quite disappointing to always find the same ones: melon, pineapple, watermelon, and very exceptionally, mango or papaya.
Pool. It is always gratifying after a day of sightseeing but it is small, noisy with children jumping and with only 4 sun loungers on asphalt since there is no garden. Their cafeteria is great to have a drink, whether in the afternoon or at night. They serve alcohol, but not in the restaurant.

Wifi. Floor 9 a disaster. But the view (925) spectacular.

We really loved this hotel. The club room was worth the extra money because of the afternoon and evening food & beverage offerings — ample and very tasty! Our room had a fantastic view, as did the swimming pool.
The pool is small, but gorgeous. It’s under an open-air roof so you can swim even when it’s blazing hot or rainy. All the staff at the hotel were charming and helpful, but Annie down by the pool was our favorite. She’s helpful, kind and hard-working. She clearly loves people and is perfect for the poolside job.
We’ll certainly return to this hotel every time we come to Kuching!

This was our last stop of our 10 day Malaysian sojourn. Kuching was the cleanest and prettiest city of them. And this hotel did not disappoint. It is not super cheap by Malaysian standards, but we found it well serviced in every area. It was only a short 10 minute walk to the city centre, but this location was preferable anyway. The hotel was only 100 yards from Carpenter Street which is the Chinatown area, so you will served for with lots of restaurants and a couple of drinking holes. And on the back side of the hotel is India Street containing lots of market stalls which operate during the day. At the far end of India Street you will find an open hawker centre for local street food. But on the fourth floor of the hotel is a walkway which accesses the Merdeka Plaza shopping mall next door. And on the third floor of the mall is a huge food court with a great variety of inexpensive food.

The staff are very efficient and friendly, and our only disappointment was that pool area had no bar person in attendance during the day. We would have liked to have finished our walking for the day with a nice swim and a cold beer, but no one was available. And although the beds were very firm, our experience of the hotel was excellent, and we would definitely stay here again.

Stayed at club family room, with access to Iridium Lounge. Staff were all very friendly, polite and were able to accomodate my requests for booking of transport for check out in early morning.

Selection of finger foods were plentiful... and the cafe's food was superb, not only in terms of taste, but the skill and perfection of the cooking was fantastic. Even the pineapple juice was really delicious and thick, and not watered down like in most eating places. I must commend the breakfast selection - they even had oatmilk, which I do not see often even in other 5 star restaurants.

Location wise, we were right smack along Kuching Waterfront, and sitting at the Iridium Lounge, you will have a good view of the river scape. Even our room had a good view of Merdeka Square and Borneo Cultural Museum. It was connected to a shopping centre , which made it very convenient for us to shop and head back to the hotel.

The location of the hotel is extremely convenient for tourists who would like to explore the historic city centre. It is also adjoined to a mall (The Plaza Merdeka) where there are fast-food restaurants, some shops and a supermarket.

The staff are extremely hospitable with pleasant dispositions all around.

The rooms were above average and probably my only gripe in this review. The rain shower head sputters in all directions, cracked tiles in the toilet and I couldn’t change the temperate for the air-conditioning.

I appreciated that their gym was well maintained with a weights rack, multi-purpose machine and a few cardio machines.

If I were to visit Kuching again, I will most likely come back to stay at The Waterfront Hotel.

Our second visit to this hotel of choice in Kuching, Sarawak. The location is the best possible, close to the river, post office, bank, museum and above all a good shopping center where their lift brings you directly into the lower floor. Breakfast is very good and the redecorated dining room has a pleasant ambiance. Service is good. Especially Royce Villegas, Front Office Manager, has given us exceptional service and support. A highly recommended hotel for a Sarawak/Kucing visit.

The Waterftont Hotel is in a great location, very close to the River & historic district with many eateries, and a decent mall right next to it. However, the Service really needs to be improved! 1. Only 1 towel in the bathroom when we checked in the room. The House keeping man not friendly at all when asked for more bottle water & 2 more towels, he looked very upset and only gave me to me begrudgingly. 2. Breakfast room super crowed in the morning around 8 to 9 am. I had a hard time finding a table for me and my wife. I had to clear the dishes from the previous guests myself and to set my own table. Quite short staff apparently. The ladies at the egg station not smiling and not responding when I said Good morning to them. All these can be improved easily if Management gives them better training and gives them good motivation to provide warmer service. After all, it is a Service industry. 3. Worst of all, I had a bad experience with the lady staff (perhaps a manager) at the front desk sitting on the extreme left hand side at the evening shift on a Friday night. I asked for change from a RM100 bill. Without counting she gave me back 9 RM10 bills & without blinking an eye. Something inside me told me to count the changes in front of her. Sure enough I was short changed RM 10 which on one hand is no big deal, but on the other it is not not acceptable. She did not even apologize for her “inaccuracy”. Very sad. Overall, it is a good hotel, but the Services in the above mentioned areas REALLY need to be improved. I hope Management takes what I write seriously and put forth improvements.

The Waterfront is a fantastic hotel in a brilliant location. Our room (as many others) had a wonderful view across the river to the golden roofed Sarawak State Assembly building and the Astana Palace and entertained us with a fabulous water fountain and light show every evening. The staff were brilliant, so friendly and helpful. We loved the hotel and Kuching.

The hotel had an excellent restaurant and was very close to Chinatown and other restaurants, Breakfast was an enormous buffet, with just about everything you could want, including a selection of prettily decorated miniature cakes. Our room was spacious and quite luxurious; the only thing we didn't like was the cheap toilet seat, which, while clean, was not of the quality of everything else about the hotel. Overall, we would certainly recommend The Waterfront.

Hello.. Not so sure abt that. But Im sure the concierge can assist but it can get a bit costly. The information counter of the shopping mall next door should be able to provide the necessary info too. Bu then, taxi and Grab drivers are available nearby and plentiful. So you have more varieties to choose from. Good luck!

As previous replies have said.....the pool is fairly small and shallow. Not good for serious lap swimmers. it is also undercover, but has good views across the river. Showers and toilets are available as is a pool attendant (sometimes) and pool towels. The pool is on level 4 andis open from about 8am. a small number of tables and chairs are available as well as two lounges.

Other than the pool, I'm not very sure what other activities are provided by the hotel. But no worries because the hotel is attached to a modestly fancy shopping mall next door with lots of choices.
