Appreciate all the efforts made by frontliners but the following really needs to be taken care of: 1) During the swab test on Day 10, all the guests on the same level - or what seemed like everybody - were asked to gather at the lift lobby area. There was only one person and there were at least 10-15 people gathered at the same time. They’ll call you to go sit at the chair where the previous person sat, maskless, literally second ago. I did not see any air purifiers and the area is indoors, i.e. no windows (virus concentration will not change much and I saw someone coughing). Frontliners also did not even change their gloves - given that they could come into contact with bodily fluids and skin, I was not comfortable at all. Swab is literally taken within seconds, but for the throat swab the person who swabbed me rubbed the tip against the front - not even the rear - my *tongue*, not my tonsils. I’m not sure why this was the case and I was immediately rushed off. Having taken no less than fifty tests since the beginning of the pandemic why this was done was very puzzling to me. It can potentially produce a void result given the bacteria on your tongue. As such I did not feel safe because given how contagious the Delta variant is, more care should have been taken with the amount of people there. Have heard of QSs where medical personnel comes into your room, swab you, change PPE and then go to the next room which sounds way better to me. Surely if anyone in the management was going home to unvaccinated and high risk parents they’d want the highest level of protection taken. 2) The smoke smell in the rooms. I’m not sure why this is the case but it is very very strong, enough to make you cough (or maybe I have sensitive lungs), especially in the morning and at night. Please do something about it. It’s not life threatening but I’m sure no one wants to wake up / fall asleep to second hand smoke for two whole weeks. Didn’t ask to change rooms because this seems to be a hotel wide problem, as someone under Premium package also complained about the same thing. 3) Sheets were clean, but not. Had a sweaty / musty smell to it and some of the inner pillows were yellow. I’ve only discovered this on D13 if not I would have requested a change so please do check your pillows. Other things: 1) You cannot order from foodpanda / other deliveries 2) Toiletries provided but definitely not enough for two weeks 3) Food is okay but it’s almost always fried chicken. Pros 1) Shower is good 2) Room is big Would not return or recommend. There’s no reason to when they can’t even ensure guests safety. Very sure they are still on the list because the scale of the hotel is quite large.

When we want real hospitality and good nights stay, we simply go to Sama-Sama Hotel. My wife and I have been staying in the Hotel for many times over the last several years. We get the same excellent treatment in every single visit. We admire the room design even for the standard type. The interior is simple but elegant, functional and comfortable. The king bed is huge that a good night sleep is assured. The lighting design and controls are almost perfect for different times and situations in the day. The bathroom and shower are well kept and cleaned. The wifi speed is excellent. The green and scenic view of the trees immediately outside the room provide that pleasant feelings. And the artwork is just lovely. Food - all good. What else do we need?

Was allocated Sama-Sama Hotel for my quarantine when arrived KL. Hotel wifi, fantastic! Didn't encounter a single moment of lacking, not once, for the record, I kept downloading dramas to watch (I prefer dl since can fast forward if not happy, ha). Staff are great, very helpful. Highly recommend their room service, Special Salad, I must have ordered that over 8 times during my 7 day/6nights quarantine. On one occasion, I ordered 3 times within a day. Quarantine standard package meals provided are OK, no complains. I'll be lying if I say all meals are yummy, they're not, some nice, some-so-so, like eating mixed rice during lunchtime, but overall, they're OK. We get fried noodles + fruits/mini muffins/mini danish for breakfast, either fish or chix + fruits for lunch and fish (if lunch is chix, if lunch is fish, dinner is chix) for dinner + dessert. Oh yes, the pandan cake & choc moist cake, heavenly! Moist & soft and not too sweet, yums. All in all, the 7-day quarantine at Hotel Sama-Sama was like a staycation. The hotel has a great happy team there.

I’m am 5 days into a (hopefully) 7-day Premium Package Quarantine Stay. At first, I was going to wait until after check-out to write and share a review so I could include the check-out procedure, but it has come to my attention that there are some problems that urgently need to be raised now. Before I expand of the problems I experienced, I must first say that during these difficult times, the team at Sama-Sama Hotel is really doing their absolute best to support and resolve the issues that guests face. If you give them a chance to resolve the problem, they will, and they will do so in the best way possible, with patience and kindness. This is just wonderful, outstanding and rare in the world of hospitality today! Let’s briefly discuss the nice elements of this hotel stay so far: The food is really REALLY good. Decent and good quality ingredients, good flavor and enough to keep me full at each meal. I was concerned that the food was not going to be enough, but it has been. There is also 24-hour room service, albeit a reduced menu after 11pm, which means you won’t be going hungry if your body is jetlagged. Because of my dietary restrictions, no milk, I think my meals have been mostly western. There has been inconsistency with this, as some meals come with a special slip listing my dietary requirements, and others without, and these sometimes come with milk/dairy products in the meal. However, every time I have raised this with them, they have done their best to fix it and they provide me with a new meal that I can eat. The only downside is that I have to keep reminding them. So, this is an area that can be improved, however, with this pandemic and the stress of the situation, this is a small problem in the scheme of things when they are getting 90% of things right. The regular room itself is quite spacious, with space to sit and relax, do your work, and move around – very helpful in preventing any feelings of enclosed spaces during a quarantine stay. I know this because in the last 5 days I have been in 4 different rooms with 3 different room layouts, including a suite (more on this later). The bed, when good, is very comfortable for me. I’m about 6' and 100+kg, so I appreciate the firmness of the beds. Some of the beds have an extra layer of cushion on top that make them softer – these are the twin beds pushed together to make a king bed, with the downside being that you can feel the gap/join of the two mattresses on occasion. Internet speeds have been good, I was using fast.com to test them. It has been between 100 – 200 Mbps DOWN and 100 – 150 Mbps UP over the Free Wi-Fi. So, no worries when it comes to streaming or video meetings. I’ve been using a Mi Stick with Android TV in the room’s tv – works great. Every desk has the option of ethernet too – yet to properly test that as it seems there is a drop in speed in the early hours of the morning for both Wi-Fi and ethernet. Now, onto the problems I have been facing: Smell of cigarette smoke – on a few occasions I smell cigarette smoke in the bathroom and then the room. Someone in another room is smoking. I let the hotel know and they kindly offered to spray the room with air freshener, but I declined as I believe the smell will stop once the person stops smoking. Ventilation is quite good in the rooms, so no stuffy feeling. As mentioned previously, I have now been in 4 different rooms. I will go through each one and why I was offered to move in each one. Room 1, Thurs to Fri (day 1-2) – There was a problem with the air conditioning not getting cold despite being set to the maximum coldest. It was reported to the service team and a technician was sent to review it. He opened the valve of the AC as much as possible, but due to age that was the maximum coolest it was going to get, he suggested that moving rooms was the only option to get functioning AC. I slept that night, and, in the morning, I moved before lunch to room 2. Room 2, Fri to Sat (day 2-3) – this time there was an electrical/IT problem with the room. The lights would automatically switch themselves off at random. Again, a technician was sent, and it was diagnosed to be a problem with the IT system in the room (yes, these rooms have smart/remote lighting solution in the rooms with a little control box next to the bed – impressive!). IT was not available until Monday, so I was offered the opportunity to move to a new room. I did this because I didn’t want the light to randomly go out while showering (this already happened while I was on the toilet and this is a bit dangerous). I moved the next day to Room 3. Room 3, Sat to Sun (day 3-4) – this room had two beds pushed together (same as Room 2), it was the twin configuration. I had struggled to sleep because I kept rolling into the “well” in the middle of the two mattresses. I felt that both sides had a significant slope with the outside being higher than the inner edge. I reported this and was offered to be moved to another room with a single king bed (not two pushed together), but the room was smaller and did not have a bathtub. So I asked if I can be moved to a better room. This is when the duty manager kindly offered to move me to a suite. I accepted and moved to Room 4 on the Sunday evening. Room 4, Sun to now (day 4-5…) – this is where the tag line comes from. This suite room is great, big space, more amenities provided, such as extra towels, pod-coffee machine, plates & cutlery, dish soap and sponge, and laundry soap, extra bed sheets, double the toiletries. Which makes me wonder, why is it that the basic premiums package QS not receive this kind on in-room amenities from the beginning? Monday morning (day 5), I go into the bathroom after having my PCR test done and there is water dripping on the outside wardrobe in the bathroom and a big pool of water on the floor. This has been doing this all night. I open the door and there is even more water dripping through! Everything under the drip is wet – luckily, I didn’t hang my clothing there! I called up and reported the problem. They sent a technician immediately and he arrived with a ladder and a big wet/dry vacuum. He proceeds to inspect the problem and then vacuum up the water in the ceiling. Turns out there was a blockage in the condensation outlet pipe, and the condensation water was overflowing instead of draining. The blockage was cleared and now it seems to be working well with no drips. I'm in this room still, hopefully not another move needed. The bed is great, the lights don't switch off randomly and other than the crying AC, it gets nice and cold! Pandemic related processes: Check-in: after being picked up at arrivals by the booked car, I was taken to the ballroom entrance (below the lobby) to check-in, upon entering I was sprayed with an atomized disinfectant liquid, and had my hands spayed for sanitization. Overall, this was a smooth process where they photocopied some documents and proceeded to enquire about my dietary restrictions (which I had already informed them of during the booking stage). Once complete, I was given my room key and a printout of key information regarding covid and other things such as item delivery and ordering from the kiosk. Visit to the room: I was visited in the room on the morning of day 2 to receive a wristband with my name and information and given another information handout with more medical and other SOP information, and a form to read and sign. It seems there is a medical center on the top floor of the hotel, as I spoke to a doctor there to report the development of a slight and brief coughing fit that I had. Day 5 PCR test: the PCR test was quick and easy, as I had paid on MYEG first. So I showed them the payment receipt and I was swabbed through my nose. It was all done in 5-10 minutes. Check-out: let’s see how this goes! I have paid for 10 days, but only required to stay for 7. I have been told that I will be refunded the extra days I do not use. Checkout happens between 9.30 and 12, as the KKM? Desk closes at 12. I suppose if I miss this, I will have to stay for an 8th day. I’m also presuming checkout happens when I have received a negative test result. If it’s positive, I’m assuming I will be taken somewhere for observation and medical attention. Everyone is well dressed in protective clothing, gloves, masks, eyeglasses and face shield. There is also a nice little intro video on the TV about how they disinfect the rooms. However, I'm not sure if they really white down EVERY surface. So keep washing your hands despite there being a low risk of transmission from surfaces. In conclusion…. What can I say about this experience so far? The staff and team are outstanding, they are actually seeking and delivering the highest quality service I had experienced in some time! But the rooms, the physical facilities... well... underneath all of this, they are having to deal with an aging and crumbling hotel building and furniture. While there was an announcement of a RM16 million investment in upgrading/renovating the restaurant and event spaces in 2019, I think it is timely that some money is invested in upgrading the rooms and fundamentals such as plumbing, electrical and furniture. With the real priority being plumbing due to the AC problems and the slow sink & shower drains as well. The hotel building itself is begging for this help, I can feel this deeply. That is why I am motivated to write this review sooner rather than later. Maybe it can be done floor by floor? I'll leave that up to the management and owners who will fund it. While I understand that a lot of revenue is made through events such as Ramadan Breaking Fast buffets, Sama-Sama hotel, KL Airport Hotels Sdn Bhd, and parent company Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad must not forget about us guests that have to live with the ailing problems of the rooms – especially now that some guests have to spend 7 to 10 days here at a time. While I was going to leave a 5-star review because of the the amazing service I have received, the fundamental problems of the hotel room facilities and furniture means I can’t go any higher than 3-stars. This problem really needs the hotels attention and action now!
