We booked this through Panama Travel Unlimited and they were very good at setting reasonable expectations of what to expect from the holiday. This is definitely not a trip for someone used to the typical Mexican all inclusives! We flew in on a 12 passenger plane to a small runway at Achutupo where we were met by Juan and Aldamar,... More

We went for two nights with our two teens. We had a guide for the whole time, Adelfonso Restrepo, who took care of us very well. He is Kuna and lives on a nearby island with his family (whom we met). We were the only people at the lodge, and the only tourists we saw during our entire stay. Now... More

I count this as one of the best trips of my life and a highlight of my trip to Panama. Not only is the scenery stunning, the cultural experience was incredible. The staff at the lodge are some of the hardest working and most gracious people I have ever met. It's a plus if you can speak Spanish. I was... More

We had a really amazing time at the lodge! Daniel and Helena are super accommodating and were constantly checking in to see if everything was okay. Be aware though this place is definitely "rustic" as Daniel described to us before we arrived. You are not going to be living in the lap of luxury here but I'm not sure that... More

I am not the most demanding person in the world and I can live with the basic. For me it was pure heaven and the lodge was perfect but I will point some things that other people might find helpful. 1. Learn Spanish. No one speaks English there 2. Mosquitos are everywhere and they are invisible. you will feel it... More

The people were very nice and you will learn a lot about the Kuna life. You should definitely go on all the excursions. Our guide on the first day spoke good English. When they realized my partner spoke Spanish, they sent us out on the second day with a guide who only spoke Spanish. It worked out ok since we... More

Rustic and basic lodge. Most of the lamps in our lodge did not work. The shower head was broken. Be aware that there is only cold water. The food was very basic and lacked any kind of spices. They did not have any fish or prawns which we had hoped for. Perhaps we were unlucky having stayed only two nights.... More

First we want to thank you for your comments in first place we wish to clarify several important points Kuna Yala is a rustic and basic place around, the rate used is calculated to cover costs and offer good service in a remote place with difficult access you have probably found something damaged, it may be true because it is... We had not booked to go to Akwadup but as there was some problem with our original lodge at Sapibenega and it had been closed together with all of the lodges around Playon Chico, we were delighted that our agent Daniel at Panama Travel Corp had been able to re-organise us to stay at Akwadup. We were there for 6... More

Our voyage to the lodge was very memorable. We flew in a small plane with a few tourist and mostly local Kuna people, headed to the Achutupu airport. We dropped people off a one stop (Playa Chica), we proceeded for a 15 minute flight to Achutupu. Anselmo and Juan met us at the boat dock and once he was satisfied... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If you want the ocean breeze in a welcoming place, far away from your city and life’s stress, let me help,I would like to tell you about a special place in central America, off the Caribbean coast of Panama.we belong to the Kuna indigenous people and are the owners of two palm fringed eco-tourist lodges on islands in Kuna Yala, meaning Kuna territory (also known as the san Blas Islands). The names of these highly regarded resorts are UAGUINEGA (winner of an International Business award) and AKWADUP, they are on small coral reefs close to the island of Achutupu which has one of the most traditional Kuna cultures, little changed over the centuries. Our guided tours will take you to watch the native women making their world renowned molas; at your selection you may wish to take a trip up river into the rainforest. Enjoy the snorkelling, swimming, or just relax in a palm shaded hammock. At night under the moon and shining stars. We are waiting to greet you. The Kuna dance, culture, stories and enjoyable, unique experience are sure to stay in your memory. ... more   less
