The hotel has a good location. Very accessible by public transport. It is located just across persimmon. Walking distance to sm cebu and ayala center cebu. The hotel has no elevator, but has big hallways. rooms are big n spacious, clean n with windows n views. Free wifi, free drinking water n toiletries. It has a water dispenser in every floors. Room has TV, small refrigerator (don't know if it's working, didn't use). Nice comfortable bed. Clean air n ambience. Free breakfast. But they are kinda understaffed, they don't clean the room everyday.

It costs roughly 250 pesos to get here from the airport. Make sure you get a taxi from international departures instead of arrivals. The police keep them out and they are the cheapest.

The hotel is clean, the staff are nice, and the rooms are decent. They have AC, Fan, hot shower, TV with cable, everything you need. It costs 1200 pesos for a standard room per night. This is what I got and it was all I needed. Perfect for 2.
The hotel is close to Mango district. Go to the main road, take a right, and take another right.
It is also close to 2 malls for all the shopping you need.
Not very close to the beach. Get a taxi.
There is a restaurant downstairs that has good cheap food and beer. I spent a lot of time here. I was only in Cebu for Transit.

I would go here again.

We (family of 3 - one small child) have stayed at Kiwi Lodge twice now.
Once in 2006 & once this trip Dec 2011.
I booked the room over 12 months ago & requested an airport pickup.
The pickup happened. There were two gents waiting...very friendly.
We fought the Friday night traffic back to the hotel & checked in.
The checkin staff were very friendly.
We ordred a eat in room meal as we were tired.
It turned up quick...was very good.
We had a good nights sleep.
We had booked to stay 10 days but at checkin advised we were actually unsure of the exact stay as we wanted to travel to Bohol & do some tours & even perhaps stay down there.
The reception said no problem.
Breakfast is server downstairs in the dining area from 7 am.
We arrived at 7...ordered & the meals were server about 5 minutes later.
The dining area always seems to have expats there...which I like...makes me feel safe.
We ate quite a few meals in the dining area & some in the room.
The meals are slightly pricey (compared to other Cebu eating places) but are clean, good eating, very tasty & very filling. I have no hesitation is recommending the meals. They are good expat filling meals.
The room was supposed to be new (new wing of the building) but it already was showing signs of mould in the bathroom. But I still liked the room.
I used the safe deposit facilityof reception to safely keep some money & our passports. A free facility. The contents were placed in a large manila envelope, sealed & signed.
They were returned everything in tact.
The whole exercise was handled by very friendly staff.
When were turned up late at night from the shopping malls by taxi the security gurd diligently recorded the cabs plate number.
When we wanted a cab to begin our days journey one was very quickly obtained for us by a willing staff member.
I advised on the Sunday night (3 nights stay so far) that we had decided to check out on the Monday morning & head to Bohol.
No problem...they drew up our account the next day...no cancellation fee...no hassle.

My summing up of Kiwi Lodge - Cebu. If you want good food, to feel safe & be in a convenient location then this is the place to be. Just turn a blind eye to the Lodge showing signs of age & needing maintenance. The staff are excellent.

I visited here 10 years ago, and it was a lively friendly place, with a good bar. Bar has now given up it seems. Breakfast was in the bar area, with a defunct pool table and dartboard standing in the corner. One item for breakfast was omelette with bread and butter, but "no butter sir".

Rooms and location are OK for the price

I'm a filipino who married to a European guy. My husband and I were coming to Cebu for a short visit and I tried to booked a stay in kiwi lodge since I have read a good reviews about it and was recommended by a friend who is their regular guest but I did not realize that filipinos are not welcome! I booked online stating on the form that my nationality is a filipino, I got a reply from "MERLYN" saying SORRY but we are fully booked this coming .......! but when my husband booked since he got a reply in a split second with a confirmation. I'm so disgusted and sad that my fellow people treat me this way :-( and for the record they should put in their website a big sign saying "locals not welcome"

We really liked this place. For a hostel it was GREAT!! People very friendly that ran the place, also the owner and the locals that hang out at the bar downstairs. The rooms are very clean. They have security 24/7. The bar is downstairs from the rooms and closes at 10:00 so you can all have a great nights sleep.... :)

As one of Kiwi Lodge's first customers, having spent countless hours in what once was a vibrant meeting place for Westerners worldwide, recent changes has resulted in a reversal.
Granted there has been some minor ascetic improvements, but as it's main purpose was intended to be a BAR / RESTAURANT, this is no longer the case.
The once friendly atmosphere has been muted by the installation of excessive ceiling lighting over the bar, coupled with the constant sound of electric insect zappers,
Oh! and if you happen to be a smoker, you're definitely not welcome.
At times it can resemble a child minding creche, so if you don't mind little people around your feet, you will be OK.
When it comes to ordering off the Menu, it is easier to ask what is NOT available.
Free breakfast for house guests is fine if you're Filipino, but little comfort for Western palates.
Every establishment has it's day in the sun, but this once iconic meeting place is now under a cloud.
Management response to any critique from long term clientele was purportedly, "we don't need the old clients, they're going to die anyway"
I would have to applaud that insightful comment, but it's a pity they can't recognise the obvious - the "death rattles" of Kiwi Lodge.
So to all the "old" regulars, "Cheers & Beers till we meet again" - somewhere more convivial.

Response from KIWI H, Owner at Kiwi Hotel
Responded 5 Jul 2017
Hi Ron We are grateful to read your feedback because the management takes it as an opportunity to better our service and cater to the needs of our valued customers. But we are quick to politely refute your insinuations that “we don’t need the old clients, they’re going to die anyway”. We have never said that, neither do we think about that. Rather, we moved heavens and earth to continuously lure our old clients to our fold because Kiwi Lodge owes them our very existence in business. Getting new clients is as important as maintaining the patronage of old clients, and we sure you knew that. Testament to our drive in holding the patronage of our old clients and inviting new ones is that we better our service and we improved our facilities. In introducing these improvements, the management understands that not all clients will appreciate and maybe some will have words to say, just like you do. For instance, we put better lightings in the bar area not to mute the friendly atmosphere but to enhance good conversation and discussion where you can see clearly the creases in the faces of your friends as they share a laughter with you. And by the way, the constant sound of electric insect zappers was not intended to mute the atmosphere. Rather, that constant sound you are complaining about is a constant reminder that the management cares so much about you and our other clients from the moment you step into our premises. We’d rather annoy you with that natural sound than to see you suffer from fatal dengue fever, that we cannot allow. In the same way that we cannot allow smokers to blend in with non-smokers in public places for obvious health reasons. We respect your right to smoke which you are free to do inside your designated smoking room, but we cannot in principle sacrifice the health of our other guests. It is not about the management prohibiting you to smoke in areas where people converge, but it is about respecting the health of our other guests and we hope you see our point. And speaking of our menu and free breakfast, we hasten to stress that we serve our multiracial guests from all walks of life and continents, be of western or eastern origin, hence, we have no menu exclusivity. We see no reason why our place is not convivial if only our guests appreciate the reasons behind the improvements we’ve made. Rest assured that we only have your welfare and pleasure in mind while you are nestled in our haven. We appreciate the opportunity to billet you again here in our place. With you and your so-called old regulars, beers on us on your next stay and you are all certainly welcome. Thank you for your comments, and it certainly serve as a motivation for us to continuously serve our guests.

Everything here is basic and satisfactory. Clean and organized. Coded safe in room. Staff are willing to please. Friendly bar and restaurant so no need to travel out if you don't want to. Always someone to chat to. A place to go back to in sometimes hectic area of Cebu.

Staid here 10 days, and enjoyed the food and the company of the expats who use the bar and restaurant (great fish and chips).

Rooms are simple and clean. Hotel is located close to the two major shopping Malls and just down the street from Mango Square the major night life bar/restaurant/night club center.

Not a young crowed at the hotel, but staff and owner are very friendly and night time security is very good.

Would stay there again

Cebu City, Philippines
Is the restaurant open ... is breakfast served??
Answer from David N

As I understand it from my stay; this is a budget hotel and I'm sure if they have room they can provide you with one. I paid cash for my stay. Getting a taxi from the airport to the hotel was cheap and easy (300 pesos = £5 approx). Food/breakfast is basic but edible and rooms were comfortable + hot water, but clenlyness wasn't amazing bit not the worst... again remember it's budget. Most attractions in Cebu City are walkable, however the heat and the smog is intense. Easiest is to get taxis as they are really cheap. Cebu is actually a fun city. If you like a party there's a good few cool bars and clubs. Markets are crazy and I suggest the IT park if you want a bit more upmarket food and drinks.

Hi Julius M, for this hotel, they do not accept hourly rate nor short time. Just like most hotels, standard check in is 2pm, check out is 12nn the following day. Maybe you can check with Queensland or Prince Court if they cater to hourly rate and short time.
