This hotel is definitely commendable for its location. There is Airport Express bus from Baiyun International Airport and will drop off diagonally opposite the hotel while boarding up location (near 7-11) to Baiyun International Airport would be 1 min walk from the hotel.
The metro exit is just located beside the hotel but only stairs for entrance/exit which it is not suitable for elderly.
There is no heater as such please don't choose this hotel when you are travelling during winter season.
The location is about 20 mins walk to Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street or Beijing Lu Pedestrian Street. And about 10 mins walk to Yi De Lu Dried Seafood. You may choose to take bus. Do download Baidu map as it is very useful on the bus direction.

We spent 6 days at Guangzhou Hotel at Haizhu Square, in a suite. The best part is the location, it is located right next to subway station exit, at the most busy transport hub in the city, minutes from many wholesale markets.
Out room has a front river view with 2 bridges which light up beautifully, one in rainbow constantly changing colors.
It is a famous hotel, everyone knows it, but also 50 years old hotel, room condition is old, shower is not good, breakfast is poor. Service was older Chinese hotel style, good enough but not too friendly.
There is no heater in the room, March is not cold, room is sort of chilly, temp controls don't have temp control, you can't have heat, only cool air. This is not good.
First suite shower was old and cheap, couldn't get steady hot water, changed to a "new and remodeled" suite, which was also old, but at least shower was good enough. Sofas are heavy Chinese furniture, uncomfortable to sit on.
We will stay here again, simply because the the location is super convenient for us.

Recommended for its location. 2 mins walk to the metro. From the hotel entrance, turn left and after 10 mins walk, you'll reach Beijing Lu. 15 mins walk from Pearl River to the hotel. Turn right at the hotel and you'll find a 24 hours 7 Eleven shop and when you walk further there's a famous noodle restaurant open till 12am. Can take the airport express bus to the airport which you can buy the ticket at the booth located opposite the hotel (entrance of Bin Bin Plaza). Note that you can only buy the ticket 10 minutes before the departure time. The journey only takes 35 mins. Good if you want to avoid the crowd at the metro especially if you have quite a bit of baggage and the bus stops right at the departure hall entrance.

Rooms were average but big, washrooms were okay but not really good to look at as hotel rooms are really really old.
Location was just very very good its next to metro station you exit the hotel you will find the metro station.
Very close to One Link Plaza and other wholesale malls,Bejiend road etc all at walking distance.
I would suggest if you are looking at location then choose the hotel.

it is old and smells old, but if you are at guangzhou for business, this is the better hotel. the room is old style, so spacious enough for your stocks/goods. near one link and yi de lu for toys and gifts shopping. near tai kang for cosmetics and accessories. has an underground access to guangzhou metro thus accessible to all stations including guangzhou railway station for wholesale clothes, and pazhou station for the convention center in times of the guangzhou fair. the airport express (bus 5, airport exit a2) stops at haizhu square (front of hotel) from the airport and stops at 7/11 (hotel side) going to the airport. the breakfast buffet is good enough and has a wide selection to keep you full for a day's walk.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights from 6-11 March and strategically located with easy accessibility to MRT. The MRT station is just 50 meters from the hotel and moving around is easy.
It is about 20 minutes walk to OneLink Shopping Mall (Wan Ling), Beijing Road/Beijing Road Pedestrian walk.

As the first big hotel in Guangzhou it has certainly had it's day but is a quaint 3 star best. To get to it ask the taxi driver to take you to 'Gwarnjo Pingwa'. Taxi drivers neither speak nor read English and for some reason even have trouble reading the Chinese version of this name. Mention it as phonetically and it's like watching a secret code get cracked. Go figure. Theynhave been undertaking room upgrading for some time and I would suggest that you refuse any room under floor 13. Pay the extra for a Superior Business Room or above. The are works near the river presently so if you want the view of the Pearl River which is wonderful at night I recommend a good set of silicone earplugs as the building works start early and finish late.
The reno'd rooms are clean if not basic. There is now a safe in the room and a fridge if you are lucky enough to score one that is cold. Water pressure in the shower is excellent but the nozzle must have been bought from a Chinese 2 yuan shop as mine squirted only horizontally.
I had a king? Bed and yes it is strangely firm but surprisingly comfy.
The restaurants in the building are very local for both breakfast and dinner. Across from the seven eleven a few doors up is a famous Chinese seafood restaurant. Food he is exquisite and I eat there whenever I stay here. Food choices are in English and Chinese with good coloured pictures and a full range from basic sweet and sour to the more exotic. Perfect for fussy eaters who won't hold back the adventurous.
At the boutique shopping centre across the street above the Metro is a McDonalds (McCafe) with free wifi-(ask for the password) and a Cafe de Coral both of which ar entirely in Chinese so you
just point at what you want. There is very little English bordering on none spoken in this area.
The Day Spa is a hoot and a must visit. Very very cheap. Level 4 is for foot massages that comes with a clothed massage for not much. Here they will try to upsell you into a pedicure which you probably need anyway by then and also ear cleaning and candling. Go for it as it's all cheap and a real experience. I was with a couple of other girls and the whole thing had us rolling in hysterics. Cold drinks are complimentary and it is customary to tip around 20 rmb.
Level 5 is a whole other world and frequented by males predominantly but if you are happy to do the girl nudie shower area thing with your girlfriends, be given pink short pj's to wear and go hang out on big comfy chairs in a large communal lounge area while waiting for your massage then you can't beat the value for the experience. While there you can surf the net, watch tv, cold drinks free, alcohol charged, manicures, pedicures etc., all on offer while there and no restrictions
on time spent there.
Local shopping areas are shoes wholesale past seven eleven on other side of street and keep going to a solid ten minute walk to Beijing Lu which is a large more commercialized shopping area. On every corner they will try to get you to wander off with them to the usual copy watch haunts and this can get tedious. If you come out of the hotel and hug to the left you will see huge malls of fashion accessories with more diamantes than you ever need to see in a lifetime.
For trade fairs Guangzhou Hotel offer free shuttle service, metro trains are across the road and taxis everywhere so basic value for money this place is great. Again just ask the concierge to write in Chinese every place you want to go before heading out including Guangzhou East Railway Station or Airport.
Last word on the GE railway station if this is where you embark from probably Hong Kong keep walking until you get to the official taxi rank out the from of the train station, get in the queue and go from there.

Stayed there with my family for three nights. We booked two twin rooms. Rooms are reasonable clean. The location is good with subway and we could easily hop on to taxis. It is pretty near to major shopping areas. There are wholesale markets within walking distance from the hotel so we had a good time visiting the shoes, toys, ornaments wholesales markets. There is a good Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor of the hotel serving dim sum, lunch and dinner. It can be crowded though but wait was not too long for a table. Across the hotel, you have McDonald, family restaurants, other Chinese restaurants, Vietnamese restaurant and even Japanese restaurant. There are two hair salons next to the hotel and they open till midnight daily. There is one health centre on the 4th floor of the hotel and another one next door offering sauna, foot reflexology and massage services. Prices are reasonable and good for us after a day of shopping.

Excellent location if this is only what you need. The rest is horrible...I think picture below tells it all....
Old and tired hotel but what worst is the cleanliness....
Terrible...
Toilet is mouldy and the dust is unacceptable.
Non smoking room but is full of smells..
There is no such thing as hotel service honestly.
Well, perhaps this is really what you get is what you paid.

Hi there, wholesale markets are just a block away from Guangzhou Hotel along Beijing Lu. Just take the metro to Yide Lu and you'll find the toys market and the seafood wholesale market as well. Taxis fly everywhere to and from the hotel so transport is not a problem. You can search for Indian food here in TripAdvisor for the exact locations of your preferred cuisine. I ate in Chicken Express and Bocca before and loved the place. If you're tired of the local cuisine, Subway, Mcdonalds and a few coffee shops are just located in front of the hotel.
