Everything is perfect in Shiraume / BAIAN, the room, the equipment, the food, the service,. We have stayed there with my family. And they also provide food and have some consideration with my daughter who is just 1.5 years old. Shiraume/ BAIAN,will definitely be our first choice if we go Kyoto again.

Stayed there with my wife and her mother. Really fantastic ryokan! The room was first class, and the food was off the hook (kaiseki and breakfast both). Service was warm and top notch. Finally, the location can't be beat. The owner speaks excellent English, by way. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back -- we'll stay much longer next time!

The staff were so helpful and attentive, helping arrange our sightseeing and mapping out our visit. The food was really memorable and the location was excellent. A very unique experience at a special ryokan.

Dear Tomoko and team, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the unforgettable experience you provided me with. I never imagined that it would touch my heart so deeply, making me consider returning to Japan just to relive it. It was like a dream come true to live an authentic Japanese experience in the best way possible. The room was beautifully decorated with special items that matched the season. The private onsen was a soul-healing experience, and the Tatami Futon bed worked like magic and cured my insomnia, allowing me to sleep peacefully. The food experience was the best I had throughout my entire trip to Japan. The authentic, traditional style dishes were made with love, and Tomoko's explanations of each dish made the experience even more memorable and heartfelt. Overall, the experience was dreamy, cozy, and full of beautiful memories. Even though I am back home now, I still close my eyes and relive the experience of this beautiful 160-year-old house, which I believe is full of beautiful memories. Thank you from the deepest place in my heart, and I hope to see you again soon.💕✨ Best regards, Abeer Jawad

My wife and I stayed at Shiraume in early February 2024 for one night with Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Perfect location within Gion, spacious and clean room, tasty dinner and breakfast with seasonal local ingredients. We will return soon.

My wife and I owned and managed for 20 years one of the largest vacation rental villas on St. John, achieving the ranking of the top rated rental villa in the US Virgin Islands so we know first-rate service when we see it. Shiraume is remarkable, the most enjoyable place we have ever stayed in as a guest. The owner Okuda Tomoko, is exceptional and an outstanding host. She has developed and manages an excellent, well-trained staff. Tomoko and her wonderful staff anticipate your every need and more. The food — presentation and quality — is delicious and outstanding. We cannot recommend Shiraume Ryokan highly enough!

Shiraume is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. I cannot recommend it enough. It’s truly the best hospitality we’ve ever had. My partner and I stayed there for two nights in November, and the staff truly went above and beyond for us. The owner, Tomoko, was so lovely. She spent time chatting with us and helped us decide where to visit to see fall foliage with less crowds. She had some great recommendations! We loved our room and the dinner and breakfast was amazing, definitely don’t skip that. Unfortunately, on our last morning at Shiraume, I slipped at the bottom of the wet stone steps at Kiyomizu-dera and hurt my back quite badly. We managed to get a taxi to the hotel and Tomoko helped us find a place for me to get x-rays to make sure my back was okay. She sent one of her staff, Ryoko, to accompany us to the hospital and pharmacy. Tomoko even called our next hotel and made sure we had a room to wait in before we checked in so I would be comfortable. I cannot even find the right words to express my gratitude to Tomoko and Ryoko for taking care of me that day. They did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable and okay. Tomoko also gave me a beautiful scented flower sachet and a note when we left, which was so sweet. I truly hope I can stay at Shiraume again one day and thank Tomoko and Ryoko again for treating us so well. Their kindness means the world to me, and I will never forget it.

Staying at Shiraume was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto. I don't think there could have been a more sublime experience of Japanese culture, hospitality, and graciousness. Ms Tomoko and her staff took care of everything. They answered our questions about the city, helped us plan our sightseeing adventures, made dinner reservations for us in amazing restaurants, gave us a better understanding of the history and culture of Kyoto, and gave us information about things we didn't even know we had questions about. For the meals that we had in the ryokan, we enjoyed the kaiseki traditional dinner, Japanese and Western breakfasts. I cannot even begin to describe the exquisite presentations and the delicious flavors. As there were 3 of us, we we in the Umegae room, which was multiple rooms with all the amenities we would need and very comfortable. They have thought of every detail for an amazing experience and stay. We would have stayed longer if we could! We will definitely be back!

The room, food and service were all 5 star, but the attention to detail and added extras made our stay one we will remember forever!!
