The traditional ryokan is located in the buzz near Kyoto station yet has its own serene and quiet environment. It took less than 10 minutes to walk here from the station. As it is close to the station, there are also many bus lines serving in the area, making visiting to attractions convenient and a breeze. The room given was...

On the door of Ryokan, is a discrete sign that states 'this is a Japanese Inn, not a Guest House or Hostel'. The notice is obviously directed at young travelers seeking a bed, but unwittingly, also serves to inform the guests of the high standards within. This small, family-run Ryokan adheres to the traditional standards of inn-keeping. It is compact,...

Or more of budget style. Good enough imitation with futon and yukata, just no in-house maid and no breakfast. Room was comfortable enough, but thin walls that you can hear the neighbors. I appreciated having a coin laundrette onsite, but limited number. Someone actually took out my clothes out from the dryer prematurely and used the remaining time to dry...

We stayed in a Japanese room, 3-8 for one night. I must say I am glad it was only for one night. Friends and the travel agency told us we had to experience a Ryokan at least one time. So we did, the location of the Ryokan is perfect: as we came from Tokyo by JR-train we could walk with...

When booking on line note that there are western style rooms and traditional Japanese rooms in this "hotel". There are actually 2 buildings, about 1 small block apart. We didn't see the western style rooms. We stayed in what was referred to as the "Annex" in the Japanese style (Ryokan) rooms. Don't be put off by use of the term...

“If you really want a ryokan experience, I'm afraid you'll have to pay for one... there's no such thing as a "budget ryokan". Either go splurge (which I don't know why you would do in Kyoto with so much to see/do), or save your money and stay elsewhere far cheaper.”
