I'm sorry to say but our visit to Econo-Inn Kyoto can only be described as scandalous. The staff are really nice, but that do not change the fact that the rooms are unhealthy! Dirty and infected with black mold! We rented two rooms and both were in the same condition. The curtains where covered in dust, there where yellow stains... More

It is a very nice place for a long term stay. We have stayed there 7 nights and it was very comfy. The size of the room is bigger than you usually expect in Japan. Also a little balcony was there. The room needs a bit of renovation but for the price it is still very good. We had the... More

They room was small but convenient and clean. I and my friends had a sound sleeping night at the hotel. The bathroom was also very clean and furnished with body soap, shampoo, and conditioner. I really recommend staying at the inn for a night.

the hotel is overpriced and very old, everything is somehow dusty esp. the bed and the pillow, the bed very simple and hard, old carpet, metal-room-door, location is okay, so the hotel is the lowest possible basics, but old and overpriced, windows doesnt fit well and sleeping only with ear plug

We stayed there for three nights and the host family were very helpful. The room is in decent size, you won't feel too packed. But it's very basic. The location is great, very easy to get around and to catch buses and subways.

The hotel is only 5-minute walk away from the bus station. The staff were very nice. The room was comfortable. Quiet surroundings. Landry was right across the corner. Very good price for long stay in Kyoto. Also loved the breakfast.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
