The title of this review summarizes the only redeeming feature of this hotel. Central location, above the Kyoto train station, means that it is a great place to headquarter in Kyoto. But...this is not a hotel I would recommend for anything other than a one night, convenient location. It is anything but a fine hotel. The hotel is huge and...

I was a bit concerned about reserving a hotel in a train station but this is Japan and train stations there are something else ! The Granvia is a luxury hotel. Booked a Superior twin. Large room, very comfortable bed. Room very quiet, looking over the Kyoto tower. Breakfast was good. Paid Y350,000, breakfast included. Definitely recommend this to anyone...

The location is strategically great, within the Kyoto station so you can reach alll destinations well with public transportation. However the hotel room was relatively small, the decoration is dated and very dark and there was a strange smell like smoke. Not satisfied with room. The staff is not friendly and not attentive, when you ask something they reply in...

We spent four nights here, including three nights as part of a tour. Evidently the hotel could not accommodate us in the same room all four nights so the first night we stayed in a superior class room. This room was great, large, with two separate but large beds, both very comfortable, and a large bathroom that included a shower...

A great place to stay in Kyoto, in JR Kyoto Station as most tourist attractions can be accessed by train bus or taxi from this central location. Extremely efficient, friendly, considerate and helpful staff. Clean, quiet room with comfortable bed and great pillows. The Breakfast buffet was of a high quality with a good selection of both Japanese or western...

This hotel is in a great location for arriving from Tokyo on the bullet train, although some signs within the station would have been useful as we arrived on the opposite side of the station. We eventually found the check-in desk and after a short wait, we were able to check in before 3pm. Our credit card information was taken...

When travelling in Japan, we always book hotels at main JR stations. So, we have chosen Hotel Granvia Kyoto when we planned our visit to Kyoto. We spent 5 nights from March 25, 2017. Although Granvia is located at top of Kyoto Station, we did not take JR from Kansai Airport and chose to use the airport limousine bus service....

This is my first review as the manager and executive of guest services, Tetsuya Murai, went above and beyond what I have grown to expect from 5 star hotels. We had a lot of luggage to get on the bullet train for Tokyo. Mr Murai and an assistant helped take our bags to the platform and get them on the...

Was here for four nights, slept extremely well and had a spacious, clean and quiet room. Since the hotel is located so close to the station, I was really surprised about the peaceful atmosphere inside the hotel. The breakfast buffet was so good that each morning I planned extra time to taste the Japanese specialities. The selection of Western style...

Only there for 3 nights we found the rooms to be spacious, clean and well able to cater for us. With full facilities in the room and hotel we struggle to find fault with them. Breakfast was superb with Shops, restaurants and plenty to do and see just a walk away. Our main fault with this hotel was everything was...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
