Basic accommodation with a good location, near the station. The room is in the typical traditional ryokan style, which means you need to "build" your own floor bed in order to sleep. The bathroom is not bad, considered the Japanese standards. They will provide you with daily bath items at the hall and when you need more you have to...

Stayed as part of a group. Some of us had western rooms whilst the others had traditional Japanese rooms. Breakfast was cute. They tried hard to make western breakfasts (by their own initiative) but they missed the mark (points for trying though). Good location to Kyoto Station and all that is near!

We stayed at Hotel Station Kyoto West Hotel in a traditional Japanese Room. Location wise- it is a short walk from Kyoto Station which was good, and there are restaurants nearby. We didn't have breakfast or dinner at the hotel's own restaurant so can't comment on that. The room that we had was spacious enough for the 3 of us...

The hotel is located just a few minutes by walking from Kyoto Station. When I stay in Kyoto, I usually use this hotel since the price is not expensive. Interior of the hotel is the style of "Ryokan" that is Japanese inn. Although there is no dirty, it is not much comfortable. Fortunately, there are a lot of...

Very easy to access Kyoto's main tourist sights.Japanese style room with futon so could be a little hard if you like a soft bed.The hotel clearly shows signs of wear and tear but for the price not really a problem. Friendly staff. No reservations in recommending for a...

Actually, the room in average. But it was clean and comfortable. Even it's in city center, but the hotel in on a small street so it's not too noisy. The receptionist was very friendly and speak English very well. You also can rent yukata for 4,000 yen in this hotel.

Stayed here recently as part of a school group. The traditional Japanese style room was very large for one person though might get squishy with 4 or more. Staff were very accommodating of our group and helpful when spoken to. Breakfast was great - the students loved having access to some western food and there was quite a good variety....

It was inexpensive so I wasn't expecting mints on the pillows or anything but the bed was almost as hard as the floor and the pillow was both hard and lumpy. I foind myself unable to sleep each of night. Also, the room on had one outlet, I had to unplug the lamp to charge my phone.

First, let me be clear. There are 2 hotels by the same operator : Hotel Station Kyoto Main and Hotel Station Kyoto West. I stayed at Hotel Station Kyoto Main. And as the title suggests, it wasn't my first choice. I shifted to this hotel from another because the former hotel (much better) was too expensive during the weekend. We...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
