We wanted to stay at a traditional Ryokkan and whilst this was quite expensive, it was one of the cheaper ones. It wasn't bad it just wasn't as good as we had hoped but then we stayed in a typical Japanese guest house the night before and it was better and half the price. It is not well signposted I.e....

extremely friendly staff and the real Japanese-style rooms made my experience in this ryokan unforgettable. I loved the fact that a spot was reserved with my shoes when I arrived at the ryokan and also the fact of having a kind of personal assistant for anything I needed during my stay there. The room has the typical japanese style, with...

This was really a nice find, it's a cosy, small ryokan with few rooms and is only a 10min walk away from kiyomizudera. The room was well furnished and was reasonably priced. Service was very good - the staff helped us with our luggage up to the 2nd floor, and helped us reserved a restaurant without hesitation. They were also...

Stayed with my friend for 4 days 3 night. We only reach d place past 8pm on my first day but they were still very please to receive us & serve us warm tea while they brought our luggages up & prepare the room for us. They even designate place for our shoes & slippers for us. Upon entering our...

We stayed for one night in April during cherry blossom season (peak peak peak season). It was very close to Kiyomizu Dera, Kodaiji, Nishiki Market, and Gion District. 600m to the nearest subway. Unbeatable location. Friendly staff (common in Japan) and great experience of staying in a Ryokan: old and narrow corridors, creaking wooden floors and doors, built like a...

We stayed here for 5 nights during a trip to do the Kyoto marathon. We really wanted to try a traditional ryokan while on our trip to Japan. The staff were lovely and spoke some English. The room was a decent size (especially compared to the rooms in hotels in places like Tokyo!). Like a lot of the places we...

It was clean and good location. I just didn't like to share the bathroom. we wanted to take a shower after breakfast but they already picked up our towel and futon while we were eating breakfast. At least they should wait until check out.

We arrived to the ryokan and were greeted by the kind staff who helped us settle in. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were authentic japanese style bathrooms. The location was good and we were able to walk to multiple temples and restaurants. Strong recommend.

We stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon. The staff were very friendly abd made a lot of effort even though their English was limited. The tourist maps they gave us were invaluable on our visit. The room was a nice size and we were glad to pick a room with our own toilet. The ryokan is well...

I can warmly recommend Yamamoto Ryokan to any traveler (except maybe someone elderly having trouble climbing stairs to the first floor). The ryokan was easy to book online through japanican, everything was in English. They provide wifi in the lobby, however, it reached as well to our room which was nice. We booked four nights with breakfast. The rooms were...
