Experience traditional Kyoto architecture at this stay. The Ryokan is 8 mins walk from the nearest train station Tambaguchi which in turn only one JR stop from Kyoto Station. Note Tambaguchi is JR train stop and NOT the subway. Hence the kyoto day pass does not include travel by JR. Lovely and pleasant experience

Ryokan Sanki is a traditional Japanese guest house, tatami matting floors, futon sleeping arrangements and simple but lovely decor in the rooms and hallway. The stairs are steep to take your luggage up (I am 56, and was fine, but you wouldn't want dodgy knees). Good free wifi. Buses and trains fairly close by. The bathroom is shared, and is...

Upon arrival we were concerned as we could not make contact, and it seemed there was a problem with our online reservation. English-Japanese translation caused a bit of confusion, and once we worked out what was lost in translation we were brought into the Inn and shown our room. The host was very hospitable, however she would turn the heater...

Love to stay here. For budget traveller like me it's good price for me. When you apply from this app/ web, you will pay cash when you stay there. They only accept cash. I stay in second floor. So, if you bring heavy suitcase, you need to consider. Only 5-10 minutes to Tambashi station. And it's only 3 minutes from...

Ryokan Sanki is run by a wonderful woman who makes you feel right at home. It's not a large hotel by any means, but it is a comfortable and safe place to sleep with a train station only 5 minutes away. There is also a laundromat close by which she will gladly give you a map and tell you how...

This is my second time in ryokan Sanki, and I'll keep coming back whenever in Kyoto. Grandmas who own this place are lovely and caring and will make sure you get the best from your stay. The location is great, just a few steps from Tambaguchi station (one stop away to Kyoto central station), and surrounded by an old geisha...

Good value for money and run with a smile by the older lady that owns it. Even when fully occupied (we counted seven rooms contrary to earlier information...) there were no issues in sharing the bathroom (which has floor heating, very nice in this time of year) and there was never a lack of hot water. The lady herself is...

Ryokan Sanki was our first accomodation in Japan, and the best so far. We are a family of five italians, with three 25 to 30 years old daughters. We booked before by email, writing in english and copying the Google translator for the same in japanese too, as a courtesy to the lady of the Ryokan. The old lady who...

Great traditional place in a quiet residential neighbourhood with character. 2 min walk to two Sento baths (1 cheap local small, and 1 larger modern - both are great). 10 min walk to JR Station Tamagushi, Bus Stop, convenience store & large supermarket. Free bottled water & green tea (as long as supplies last). Very nice Japanese speaking landlady. Small...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
