The level of service and attention to detail in the hotel were outstanding, with great staff and in a great location for visiting Kyoto. The staff were all very helpful with their recommendations for restaurants, sightseeing and shopping, including maps for us to use. Both breakfast and the happy hour were very enjoyable and added to the wonderful experience at...

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at this wonderful hotel. The management and staff made us feel very special. I have never experienced this level of customer service anywhere in the world. If you are planning a trip to Kyoto check this hotel out.

Believe the hype, Hotel Mume is amazing. During our stay the wonderful staff gave us the best service we have ever experienced, I cannot praise the team at Mume highly enough. Happy hour was a highlight, with excellent Japanese wine and whisky. The staff recommended us an excellent restaurant & gave us a map, making sure that we would be...

We were recommended Mume by some friends who said it was amazing, they were not wrong. From the moment we arrived until our departure everything was just perfect. Hisako and her staff have taken customer service to another level, every need was met yet privacy when we wanted it. Make time to be in the salon for Happy Hour when...

Believe the other reviews. We travelled from Tokyo and had stayed at The Peninsula (and on the way back The Mandarin Oriental). This was a different but wonderful experience. Only 7 rooms so book really early if you want to secure a place. We stayed in Flower on the 4th Floor (of 4) which I think is a bit bigger...

What can be written that hasn't already been said? This is an extremely comfortable place with service that exceeds even the most jaded of expectations. I lost my camera at a department store. Hisako retrieved it and met us at our Nozomi not 5 minutes before we were leaving going to Hiroshima. That is a level of humanity that you...

Me and my girlfriend came straight from a Intercontinental style hotel in Tokyo to this gem of a hotel. To make things short: The hotel has six rooms, polite and fluent english speaking staff, excellent location in the Gion district, Free drinks in the bar between certain hours, free of charge breakfast. there was no view from our hotel room....

We stayed 2 nights here which is more of a boutique style hotel. It was one of the best places I have ever stayed. Aside from the perfect location in Kyoto, the staff could not have been more welcoming and eager to please. Accommodation and food being first class. Highly recommended.

We just stayed at the Hotel Mume, and it is a terrific choice. The location can't be beat - in the heart of the Gion district, with super restaurants, a river side for strolling and the occasional geisha sighting (really!!). We agree with the other reviews - the hotel is clean, attractive, and amenities are great - but what REALLY...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
