Kazariya Guesthouse is a traditional house with 2 floors only, the upper will be private room and 1st floor is dormitory. Even though the building is old, but they have kept it really clean. The only thing to expect is this traditional house lighting is very dim in yellow light. Overall I had a pleasant 3 nights stay over here...

The people here are really nice, but the place is not the best. It’s walking distance to the Kyoto station so it’s good for going out to Nara, Himeji, Osaka, etc. but of this whole place, there’s only 1 shower, and I’ve lined up for it a few nights. One of my roommates would just go to a local bathhouse...

A gem of pure happiness were thrown at my friends and I (4 of us) during our stay in Kazariya guesthouse. It's an antique style compact guesthouse but with all necessary facilities available including bicycle for rental, laundry room, kitchen, tea room, garden etc. The bicycle rental charged as 500 Yen per day (from 8am to next morning 8am) is...

The house has a bit of a traditional feel to it and we were surprised as it is situated in the middle of the city. Located very near to Gojo station on karasuma subway line as well as the karasuma-gojo bus stop. Very convenient for tourist planning to travel using these two choices. Very clean and quite a spacious room...

Kazariya is a tiny guesthouse located at central Kyoto. It takes less than three-miniute walk from Gojo subway station. Kazariya is a historic but well preserved Japanese "machiya". The owner of the guesthouse, Ms. Uesaka, is also a designer. Her enthusiam is reflected from all the delicate decorations and well-preserved antique furniture. The kitchen could be used freely to prepare...

5 of us went to Kyoto and stayed in this guesthouse. We think this is the best accommodation we have in Japan. It is very clean and nice. We love the kitchen very much. It is so cozy and we feel that we are like at home. This guesthouse is only 2 mins walk from Gojo station, which we find...

Nice tatami rooms and very friendly staff, rooms lack a bit of light though at night. Internet works very well (close to 5 Mbps download speed). Unfortunately, the place gets road noise from Gojo-road, traffic keeps going the whole night with vehicles stopping and accelerating at the nearby traffic light.

The ryokan is very near Gojo Subway station and there are a few bus stops around where one can easily access Kiyomizudera or Kinkakuji. Kyoto Station is only about 10-15 minutes walk away. You can also rent a bicycle for 500 yen/day to Kiyomizudera, Higashi Hongganji and Nijo Castle and Nishii Hongganji which are all around the area. The staff...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
