I wasn't exactly sure what to expect by staying in a capsule hotel. The idea seemed kind of unusual at first glance. After staying here though I would have no hesitations in using capsule hotels again in the future. In a sense it really wasn't much different than staying in bunk beds in a hostel. You pretty much just get...

This is my 1st experience at a capsule and it was great. I think the 'rooms' are larger than normal so it was a nice initiation. Amenities look new and clean. There is enough space to place my luggage and they have a lockable drawer for stuff. Nice touch with daily fresh night wear. I slept really well despite the...

I was apprehensive about the stay as I have never stayed at a capsule hotel before. I am over 6 foot and thought I would have to roll into a ball to fit into the compartment. Fortunately I was wrong to be worried. The capsule I had booked was a first class version with floor space and a TV. The...

I was so impressed with this capsule hotel! Great location (near Shijo station), modern ambience, comfy capsule and the cleanliness is on top notch. This is the best capsule hotel I've ever stayed and I will definitely choose this hotel again if I go to Kyoto.

It was my first experience in a capsule hotel. The location is quite good, staff was friendly and helpful, everything was clean and they have separate floors for men and women, which makes the stay for solo women travelers quite nice. Even the business class capsules seems much bigger than the other capsules I had seen. It's quite comfortable, but...

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was amazing. I chose to stay in a First cabin and it was great and quite big enough for one person with a suitcase. The shower area was nice, everything there was ready for you to use and clean. Don't be shy everyone there was naked. The breakfast was OK,...

A bit awkward to find a first walking around alleys and about a 15 min walk to Kyoto Station. Staff speak english and women are allowed in this hotel unlike most capsules that are men only. Womens floor is segregated. I stayed in the cabin for two nites. There is a folding curtain door and room to store luggage inside....

Great place to check out. If you're expecting bars and social life, you are in the wrong city. Great launch pad to visit sites and temples - bamboo forest and the surrounding park a must. Ponto-chō also well worth a visit. Bring a rain coat!

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
