very near to Kyoto station, just walk in less than 5m, there's a bus stop on main street. I stayed in Japanese style room with private bathroom. The room size is so small just like other room in Japan, but it worths the price. There's 2 dorm room on the same floor, and I see the public area is very... More

For a short stay in Kyoto, this hostel offers an affordable rate for budget backpackers like myself at about 2,800 yen per night. We've arrived in the evening and got a chance to rent the bicycle and head on down to Gion for dinner. Facilities such as amenities and the kitchen supplies are sufficient & excellent.

I stayed here for 4 days. Location is great, 5 mins away from Kyoto station. You can easily find it using their map. It is also near a bus stop going to Kyomizudera temple (bus 206). Staff were friendly and were very helpful. Bed is ok with standard mattress. the only thing is that you don't get an extra plug... More

Just 10 minutes on foot away from the main-trainstation, this little hostel offers all you need. Clean rooms, comfy beds (reading lamp and locker for each), enough and good bathrooms (good showers), common-area with beer-dispensor and kitchen. The staff is friendly and helpful too and can provide you with lots of infos about Kyoto and its surrounding. Wifi is stable... More

Nice room with traditional japaneese tatamis and futons, with shower and toilet on the room. The staff speaks english, and were very considerate and let us in slightly earlier than check in-time, cause we were obviously exhausted. Would recommend!

Are you looking for a reasonable hotel? Kyoto Hana Hostel is one of the affordable accommodations. Aside from that, it's fairly accessible to JR Kyoto station. Actually, it only takes around five minutes on foot. Arac

Unique concept! There is *no* staff - everything is self service, and run on a system of trust. Clean, reasonably sized rooms and good location, for a good price. Depends on what kind of traveller you are to say if this works for you. It isn't a happening college student hostel, nor is it a cosy bnb.

The hostel is an easy walk from Kyoto Station, and near a lot of restaurants & bars - there's a convenience store for cheap groceries nearby, and a standing bar across the road. We stayed in a private twin room (with tatami floor & futon); the room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and included a TV, air con, hairdryer, lamp and... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
