Be warned - the scale on the map is not the same as that for the other Hana Hostels. As you exit the Kyoto Train station, head towards the Kyoto Tower. Walk toward the castle, you will pass a Starbucks, Baskin Robins and a large department store on your left. At the very next intersection, turn right (there is a...

Hana Hostel is a good option for budget travellers. It is handily located close to the wonderful Kyoto Rail station. Rooms are small but not cramped. Kitchen facilities are very convenient - you can make toast and boil eggs for breakfast, if you are into that sort of tucker. The staff are relentlessly friendly and helpful.

The hostel is situated less than 5 mins walk from main Kyoto station (where you can catch bus, and all the trains). There is a bus stop outside the hostel which #26 bus basically took us to many of the main attractions in Kyoto. We travelled as a couple and stayed in an ensuite room - it was small but...

Had a fantastic stay, can't fault the location, facilities or staff, all great. We stayed in a private ensuite room - traditionally tiny yet comfortable and immaculately clean. A perfect base for checking out Kyoto, wish we had stayed longer, especially as after 3 nights stay you get a free day bike rental and a few other goodies - this...

This hostel is very close to Kyoto Station, ATMs, and makes getting around Kyoto easy. I highly suggest renting a bicycle from the hostel if you are good with maps. It will save a lot of money and stress. This was a quiet hostel and it was in a fairly quiet area. Not much nightlife in this area. The rooms...

I was so pleased when Hana hostel Kyoto was opened as I had previously stayed at the sister hostel in Hiroshima and had a great time. Since my first visit I have stayed here another two times and each time the staff have been so wonderful to us. I have always stayed in the rooms with private ensuite so can...

We stayed two nights at the Hana Hotel in Kyoto. It was clean, the staff was friendly and it was very centrally located in Kyoto close to. At check-in we were offered free packets of bath salts to use which came in very handy after walking 8-9 miles around the sights of Kyoto each day. The hotel offers a modest...

Stayed here for 3 weeks in 2010 when I was working in Kyoto. Great hostel super close to Kyoto station. Very clean with a super friendly staff. I've stayed here at various times since them. I no longer live in Kyoto but I visit often. I always check to see if this place is available.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
