The hotel soundproof is good as outdoor noise can hardly be heard, request for rooms facing car park for lesser noise, room is very clean and the toilet seat even has dryer ( the japanese toilet seat only has bidet at most of the location ), room size is considered generous for japanese standard, the picture on toyoko-inn webpage doesn't...

I stumbled upon this hotel when looking for a last minute place to stay for a flight that was delayed. As it is very close to the airport (10 min) and also offers free shuttle service, it was the perfect option. The shuttles are really nice and run ON TIME every 20 minutes. As for the actual hotel, it is...

Nice hotel, quiet, clean, comfortable and with Good receptionists. Rooms much bigger than the japanese standard, comfy bed, clean and quiet. The only con is the position, far from everything, unless you buy the daily bus ticket to visit the city and the temples, then you can easily move around the city thanks to a bus stop right next to...

When booking a Toyoko Inn you know what you get, because all of them look the same. Not the most stylish interior, but great value for money and comfortable rooms with everything you need for a pleasant stay. This property is located about 20 min walk from Kyoto station and 10 min from JR Tambaguchi station, but there is also...

The reviews I read were talking about the hotel being located far from the center and no dining options. That's not my experience. The location is only a short ride (bus # 206) from Kyoto station (track A3), and there are several good restaurants close to the hotel. The hotel is very clean and the reception staff is very friendly...

We stayed in Kyoto for 2 nights. It is a little bit away from Kyoto station (like 20-25 min walk) but you always can take a bus (we did). Our room was big, neat, clean and tidy, and had a good rest after travelling from Tokyo. Staff were all smiles and tried their best to be helpful, however they don't...

I booked room online for one night on Oct 28 and tried to cancel the booking one week later (before deadline of free cancellation). However the website had errors and couldn't cancel. I tried to call the hotel but the phone number provided by the website is incorrect. Eventually, hotel still charged me one night cost even though I didn't...

Genuine japanese hospitality, clean and peaceful room, complete amenities, nice bed, everything is nice in this place and the value for money is really one thing to consider and you can find it here! Best for solo travellers and with family! Everything is good! Will definitely return to this place!

Stayed two nights here, staff very friendly . It's a little bit out of the main Kyoto area and not that easily accessible to transport but once you get your bearings it's fine. Room is a nice size compared to the Japanese normal. Also includes a safe which came in handy. Nice night view of Kyoto tower from window. Would...

The hotel is clean and no frills Toyoko-Inn standard. This one does not have free coffee and we had issues with the wifi on our floor. Otherwise the personnel are friendly and helpful and the room was clean and quiet. They should have translations for the A/C remote control in all Toyoko-Inns.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

“If you are travelling in Japan on a budget, but want something way better than a hostel, the Toyoko Inn chain is for you. They have dozens of hotels all over Japan and some in Korea too. Join their loyalty scheme, You can check in earlier and leave later for less cost. If you are staying in one place for 3 days or more, consider using their eco plan which gives you a discount for not having your room cleaned daily.”
