We arrived for a 3 night stay the lobby is beautiful and we were warmly greeted by the front desk. However after receiving our keys for room 941 at the very end of the hallway. I cannot recommend this hotel. The room was filled with mold in the bathroom. The Air was musty, if you don't have a queen bed,...

Good location as the hotel is just opposite Kyoto JR station. A multiple power charging port for iPhones and other phones was provided on the side table. However this is the only good point I can think of. The air con is weak. Room was stuffy especially in warm season. The hotel and rooms need refurbish work.

The New Hankyu Hotel in Kyoto so far was one of the best hotel's we've stayed in. It is across the road from Kyoto Station. The staff were very helpful, friendly and spoke OK English at the reception desk. We stayed there for 4 nights and used this as our base to travel to Gion, Arashiyama, and Fushimi Inari. Wheelchair...

The location of the hotel is superb. It's right across the central station so you can travel around Kyoto and get back to it very easily. Lots of stores and mini market around. Lots of restaurant at the station. The hotel is not new, but the room condition is clean and acceptable.

We stayed in Hotel New Hankyu for 2 nights en route from Tokyo to Nagasaki. We were delighted with the location - it is across the road from Kyoto Station and close by to lots of shops, cafes and the bus terminal. We had read reviews on Trip Advisor that mostly stated the rooms needed an update. There were a...

This hotel has some great things going for it as well as some things that make me hesitant to return. The pros: - Great location across from Kyoto Station. It's easy to find after a long day of travel as well as a great launching point for business or a day's adventure. - More about the location -- it's great...

A well placed hotel within easy reach of everything.A small room by Australian standards but adequate for two seniors. We were close to numerous bars and cafes which were reasonably priced with enough western dishes so hotel restaurants were not used. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful with a good knowlege of local attractions. As we were using JR pass being opposite the...

This was a very convenient spot to stay. The Shinkansen, local trains and buses are right across the street along with 20+ restaurants. All you have to do is walk out the front door to the Presto stairs and you're underground into the mall and restaurants. So easy to get around. The hotel itself was a good value and clean....

Stayed two nights on business trip. Hotel is other side of the Kyoto railway station past the bus station. If you arrive form Osaka Airport on the airport bus, this bus stops behind the railway station and it is good 15 minutes walk to the hotel. Staff were very helpful and the hotel was to me worth 4 stars. The...

Very close to Kyoto Station, just crossed the road! Very busy place to stay, but the room was quiet. Good room service, cleaned and changed everyday, even though we asked not to. Only one thing I missed in the room, Coffee. There were only Tea bags.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
