Nice play with affordable rates to stay close to Kyoto Station. The rooms are confort in Ryokan style. The staff is amazing and gave us a lot of useful information. There is a common kitchen to use and cook your food.

Spent 4 nights here and had a great time. The staff are amazing and help you with anything, they also put together a book with all the information you could need and also have full itineraries for different desires and even what to do on a rainy day ect. The first night I arrived there was a sake tasting and...

Dear Ambi1212, Astonishing review! Thank you for your kind words to our house and staff. I’m glad you were able to experience hospitality during your holiday and made the most of it with our guide book. The beds you slept on is imported mattress from Italy called Magniflex and it is undoubtedly the best! All the best, Toshi

Backpacker's Hostel Tour Club is a great budget hostel. Not far at all from the Kyoto train station (easy 10 min walk with hostel's directions), clean and comfortable. The capsule style dorms have feather duvets and I was very warm in early December. I liked the personal tv, outlet and the curtain which can allow for privacy. The shower and...

Tour Club is a really nice hostel located a short walk from the main Kyoto station. The hostel was very clean and I really liked the "capsule style" bunk beds. They offer a lot more privacy than normal bunk beds (each has a curtain, reading light, plugs, and TV). The room had a big locker (suitcase size) for each bed...

The location is top (10 min.) from the central station, 5 min from a real supermarket. Walkingdistance from some great places without taking bus or Subway. Staff will give you a warm welcome. Showen, wc....top.

Tour club offers a semi-traditional with a modern twist of staying in Japan. The facilities and amenities as well as the location are excellent. Due to delayed flight, we arrived in Kyoto later than expected. I have notified the hostel well in advance that we are arriving late hence they offered to give me direction of self-check-in. They even, left...

This charming budget guest house has a really friendly and helpful manager/receptionist who speaks great English. The staff have given a lot of thought as to what a backpacker or budget traveller would need - so there is lots of information available on cheap places to eat nearby and local sights as well as practical things like kettles, free tea...

We were lucky enough to get the family room on the second floor by booking sufficiently far in advance. This had its own shower and small basin and was large enough to comfortably accommodate a family of four. the a/c worked well even though it was 38 degrees outside. The owner is very helpful and speaks very good English. There...

Very close to the Kyoto Station, bus stations and all the stores you need. The living room and zen garden is very Japan, sometimes with plum wine and sake for guests to try. The staff speaks fluent English and is always willing to help. We booked a three-people room and even got an additional sink and a shower room. You...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a hostel, please do not expect luxury. Our ensuite are small and without daily-maid because we focused on providing basic ensuite rooms for the price of youth hostel dormitories in Kyoto. We offer cheaper dormitory too. If you need more than the basics, we cannot meet your needs. However, we provide best value for money, such as zen garden, Japanese lounge, free kimono-try, wifi and information book. ... more   less
