Really helpful staff, great room with a nice additional sink and cups. Great information pack with things to do. Common room is set up in a great way for socialising with other guests and there is also a laundry facility. The staff are one of the most important features as they are very helpful and the information booklet is extremely...

Dear Explorer20000, Delighted to read about your comment! That nice experience you had in the common room is something other fancy hotels cannot offer, so we are glad to know that you were in the right place to enjoy your holiday. Kind regards, Toshi

This hostel is good, average facilities for Japan standards, but i rated it very good because of location, and price. Just under 10 minutes from the main Kyoto JR and subway station, and walking distance from three great temples. You can reach most of Kyoto attractions with local buses, and daily bus pass of 500 yen really pays up. Bus...

The owners cater very well for all guests whatever nationality. Rooms clean, everything works. Free wifi, laundry available, kitchen, common room. Only minutes from Kyoto railway station and all the amenities.

I have never stayed at a hostel before. The owner was very attentive. There were detailed recommendations for the restaurants around it. We had a great time trying out some authentic Japanese food and dining experiences near the Tour Club. We stayed in the Quad Family room with the 4 of us; it had a private bathroom inside.

More than your standard backpackers fare. Tastefully decorated, 10 mins away from Kyoto station, wishin half hour of all of Kyoto's sights. I had a huge private tatami floored room, with a balcony and English tv too (never used it). Toshi was great with restaurant recommendations and their map was super useful. Would gladly revisit.

Fantastic budget hotel. We had a 5 bed futon room for 3 and it was very very spacious and futons very comfortable. Great Western lounge and Japanese lounge... Staff cannot do enough to help you. Great information book in each room giving great amount of detail for day trips, restaurants etc. Cannot recommend enough!

I stayed at this hostel as a couple but opted for the private double room with private bathroom instead of the shared rooms. This brings in the best of both worlds with a private accommodation and the opportunity to meet other travellers in the common rooms. It's located about 10 minutes from Kyoto station by walking, but keep in mind...

Great location within walking distance to Kyoto station. We did stay in a room with bathroom and there are common facilities such as kitchen with a fridge, living room, locker and laundry. No problem with communication as owners speak English. Overall, great budget accommodation.

Fantastic beds, they really feel like a little room of your own and if the light is turned on at 5am .....you don't even notice. Lockers are massive, there is a USB and universal plug in every bed, they have a good space for heating up food making tea/socializing, the staff were super friendly and helpful ( they even gave...

If you're looking for a place from which you can easily access all the interesting things in Kyoto and around, this is the place. It's walking distance from the train station and bus terminal, so anywhere you need to go is close. There's a local onsen and quite a few restaurants as well as supermarkets around. The owner speaks english...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a hostel, please do not expect luxury. Our ensuite are small and without daily-maid because we focused on providing basic ensuite rooms for the price of youth hostel dormitories in Kyoto. We offer cheaper dormitory too. If you need more than the basics, we cannot meet your needs. However, we provide best value for money, such as zen garden, Japanese lounge, free kimono-try, wifi and information book. ... more   less
