Spent a few nights at tour club - an adequate but not fantastic accommodation. Rooms were small, not super clean, and the bed was not that comfy. One of the staff wasn't very helpful. Also we had to drag our luggage and all from the JR kyoto station and that took 10-15 minutes. They claim to be one of the...

We stayed in Tour Club in August 2011, in a Japanese Style Twin ensuite room. The place is highly recommended, it's half-way between a hostel and a ryokan, therefore travellers are both young people and adults with families. We went in the peak of the high-season but we found it quiet and enjoyable. It's a 10 minutes walk from the...

Stayed at Tour Club double ensuite for our 4 day trip at Kyoto. Great central location of about 10 min walk from Kyoto Station, nestled among various amenities e.g. eateries of different price range, convenience stores. Room is very clean and cosy. Excellent. Bathroom is compact and well-maintained. The futon & tatami floor is a nice touch to the Japanese...

In terms of location, Tour Club is very convenient: walking distance from Kyoto station, between two nice buddhist temples, and in a central position to visit all the wonderful sites spread in the city. This hostel offers all the facilities you can expect from any hostel. However it has something else which makes it special: the staff is very kind...

Quite easy to find according to directions on their website. Nice common room. Beautiful interior. Good bathing facilities and comfortable beds. Close to a very, very good yakitory bar/cafe. But.... Curfew at 23:00 is a BIG minus!! Absolutely no need for that in a backpackers hostel! Severely limits ones possibility to experience Kyoto nightlife.. And even more important - it's...

The hotel size was not too big, not to small, and easy to find. It's within the walking distance from Kyoto station, even with your luggage. The first impression was that the staffs were very nice and friendly. That was a good welcome for us. We booked a family room for 4 people. The room was so comfortable, clean, and...

Lonely planet rated this as the best value for money in Kyoto. I disagree. The location was quite good as it is close to the Kyoto railway station. The room had a good size, but the beds were uncomfortable and the bathroom was unappealing. The only thing, which I could see was done to the room during 'cleaning', was that...

As a single, retired, woman from the US that does not speak japanese, this facility was great. Clean rooms and bath and friendly, helpful staff. The location was close to the train/bus station which made sightseeing very easy. Staff was helpful on every aspect.. bus stops, sightseeing and good places to eat. The get togethers in the evening were a...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a hostel, please do not expect luxury. Our ensuite are small and without daily-maid because we focused on providing basic ensuite rooms for the price of youth hostel dormitories in Kyoto. We offer cheaper dormitory too. If you need more than the basics, we cannot meet your needs. However, we provide best value for money, such as zen garden, Japanese lounge, free kimono-try, wifi and information book. ... more   less
