I loved the location of the New Miyako Hotel. We had booked a 1-day Kyoto tour and the pick up point was New Miyako, which is very convenient for people who are not morning friendly (such as my husband and I!) The rooms were relatively big (for Japanese hotel rooms) and the bed was plush, big and comfy - perfect...

This was the last of several hotels across Japan as part of a Bunniks tour. As with all hotels for this tour the location was excellent. The hotel however was perhaps the smallest room size. Adequate but cramped by European and North American standards. We stayed for 4 nights and my room faced the inner courtyard. It was the one...

What is good about this hotel is that it is located right across Kyoto Station where the JR line and Shinkansen line are located. Easy access to Osaka and Mt. Fuji. The station is full of shops and restaurants where you have lots of choices for breakfast and dinner if you are on a budget. The hotel rooms are adequate...

This hotel is just across the road from the station, so is easy to use as a base. The station has an excellent Tourist Information where you can get information on where to visit and which bus to catch. The check-in was very smooth and when I asked for a room with a view the receptionist changed our room fluidly...

The location across from Kyoto station is a real bonus. All forms of transportation including the bullet train are at your service and all the shops, restaurants and department stores that go with this hub of activity. Although the lobby could use some updating, the corridors and rooms are clean and contemporary. Slightly larger than rooms we stayed in during...

Located straight across the road from Kyoto station this is very convenient and extremely easy to access from the station. The rooms were very well sized by Japanese standards and even by a westerns standard were reasonable for size. We were able to get interconnecting rooms which was not available in many other hotels. Breakfast has a more than adequate...

I stayed three night at premier floor twin room of this hotel. The hotel is very conveniently located just next to Kyoto station. There is a big mall just next to the hotel with a big supermarket. Lots of restaurants in Kyoto station opposite to the hotel. Room space is generous by Japan standard, very clean. No mini bar provided...

The location made it very convenient - we were with a tour group, so at the end of the day, there was plenty of food and shopping nearby. There is also a decent shopping center in the hotel basement. If you're traveling by yourself, you are right across the street from the Kyoto station. There are a few different restaurants,...

This was everything I could have asked for. Helpful staff, spacious room, centrally located, with shops and eateries nearby, including those in the train station right across the street, which I used to take daytrips. 100% updated and clean. Will most definitely return for my next Kyoto visit.

Situated directly opposite one if the entrances to Kyoto station this hotel is perfect for exploring the sites of Kyoto and the surrounding area (we did a day trip to Himeji and Hiroshima). Room was very spacious, which I had not been expecting, bed was large and comfy, bathroom spotlessly clean - great shower. Our rate didn't include breakfast but...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
