On the plus side: room was quite big, the bed matress was very confortable, personnel was very kind. However all these do not explain the high price or top choice on Lonely Planet. We got a room facing the main road (although I insisted on...More
I stayed here with my 12 yr old daughter for two nights. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Rooms were spacious compared to others in Japan, there was even a massage chair in the room! Short walk to Gion and popular temples, I recommend walking around...More
Location is good, Gion district is within walking distance. Bus stops right in front of Hotel. Bedding is comfortable. Rooms are small even for Japan standards. The worst was waiting in line for Breakfast that was included in package deal.
Front desk staff very helpful. Rooms are clean. Location is good for walking to subway, or bus stop right in front of hotel. Washing machines a nice touch, to have detergent already calibrated. Breakfast was very tasty - Western and Japanese choices. View from dining...More

Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and
with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
