Basic hotel, little rooms, fair brakfast, clean, neas the tram railway station (big plus), good location. Do not expect to have exquisite conditions. I do not recommend for a longer stay. Very clean, the moiter too high.

A little drab. Bad smell in corridors. By far the most expensive hotel we stayed in in Japan. Good location, near train station. Cafes restaurants and supermarket close to the hotal. Coin operated laundry. Staff were helpful.

Three nights stay in ARK Kyoto. The price was economical. Hotel was located near two train systems (Arashiyama honsen(京福電氣鐵道嵐山本線) & Hankyu railway(京阪特急線)) with solely 2 minutes walk to train station (大宮站 & 四条大宮站). Only two stops away from kawaramachi (京都河原町站). Easily accessible. Frontdesk staff was able to speak in English & Mandarin. The room was clean and tidy. Size was...

I really would like to write a good review for this hotel but despite its good location and the extremely helpful and friendly desk staff, there are a number of issues that bring it back to only an average rating. First the positives. It is in a great location with many restaurants, supermarkets and convenience stores nearby. You can catch...

Close to Shijo-Omiya Station, around a 1-minute walk, if you are going to Arashiyama (no transfers required). Close to Omiya Station, around a 2-minute walk, if you are going to Gion (only two stops away, no transfers required). Far from Kyoto Station but only a bus ride away (we rode bus route 206). Bus stop to Kyoto Station is a...

This is a good 3 star hotel. Rooms are a bit outdated, but very clean. Nice toilettery products to use. Fresh towels every day, but proper cleaning just for one day (we stayed for five nights). No exprience about the breakfast, we didn't took it since there is so many cafes around the city for reasonable price. + the location;...

I went to Kyoto with my mom this time and stayed in the Ark Hotel Kyoto. The location is very convenient that it is next to the subway station and bus stop. There are cafes, restaurants, convenient stores and supermarket near the hotel. The staff I met were helpful and optimistic. However, not everyone of them can speak English. Also,...

I stayed in the hotel for a couple of days. The hotel has a good interior, helpful English speaking staff. Rooms are typically small, but room is very comfy. The main pro is the location. It is located near a metro station Hankyu Omia of Hankyu Kyoto Line, tram station (the one that goes directly to Arashiyma) Shijo Omiya, and...

I thought this hotel was great value. Location wise it was right across the road from subway. 1 or 2 stops to kyoto cbd/gion gheisha area. And there was a train station on the corner that takes you arashiyama. Heaps of grocery stores/drug stores nearby too and a good vegan restaurant a few blocks away! Would stay here again if...

The halls smelled of smoke-- and the room was pretty outdated-- but clean. It was our most expensive lodging for all of our Japan trip. But I think it's because we booked late- and during a very busy time of year (cherry blossoms). Overall though we were satisfied.

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
