We stayed for one night in November at the Karasuma Kyoto. Nice hotel but for one problem.
Room (2828): The twin room was a very adequate size, especially for Japanese standards. There was also a good size sofa, desk, tv, and refrigerator. The bathroom was nicely...More
The hotel is very well located. It offers a western and eastern breakfast buffet. The room is functional however the bathroom is an exercice in contorsion especially if you are over 6 feet tall. I can live with all that but not having a night...More
Centrally located, typical modern hotel, rooms small but adequate, safe fridge, kettle, fridge green tea only, free wifi. Bathroom a massive 4 foot square, but even at 6'2" I didn't really have a problem. Breakfasts standard buffet style perfectly OK but nothing special. Staff very...More
My room was tiny, my 2 mates single rooms were tiny too. There was not enough room to open a double sided suitcase unless you did it on the single bed, then closed it up again and put it away (we all had single rooms)....More

Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and
with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

No they do not, or least they didn't when I was there in Oct 2016. I emailed them prior to our departure & they responded very quickly. I believe they do have a laundry service but these are not self service coin machines.
