Sorry Century Hotel but you have two things that annoy me in a hotel. Number 1: Small bed cover things at the foot of the bed that dont have any use and are not clean because they are probably too cumbersome to wash effectively. Number 2 a window into the bathroom. Listen theres just some things that need to be...

The Kyoto Century Hotel is perfectly located adjacent to the main Kyoto station (but with no noticeable train noise) making it easy to get to all the attractions in and around the city. Two minutes walk to the (very busy and crowded) main station concourse with access to Shinkansen, local and subway trains. The hotel itself is clean, comfortable and...

Stayed just 1 night but was highly impressed with the service provided by the front desk. As we were too early to check in, we went out and upon return much later, were happy to find our luggages already sent to the room. I asked about sending my luggages forward using takQbin. The next morning on checking out, I was...

We stayed for 4 nights at the hotel. It is located just next to the station, within 2 to 3 minutes walk. Hotel staff were excellent, from front desk to housekeeping. They were friendly, polite and efficient. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Fantastic hotel!

The location of this place is great - right next to the train station & definitely the best central point for branching out into the city. Buses, trains & taxis are practically at your door, but we often walked 20-30 mins down lovely laneways to our destination. We stayed in a twin room & the beds were big & super...

The Century Hotel is located 2 minutes from the train station. The staff bent over forwards (bowing is the tradition) to be more than helpful. Our room was large by Japanese standards and well acquitted. The buffet breakfast at the hotel provided a wide and delicious variety of both Japanese and western cuisine. Nearby restaurants and shopping areas abound.

First time to stay. Location good, next to Kyoto Station. Room big enough for two and clean. However, available of big beds, bath tub and shower make the room space limited. Mattress supportive, pillow firm but still not support enough. Free bottled water daily. Breakfast with various choices and taste good. Staff attitude good. Free parking available and easy to...

Our double room was medium size with comfortable bed. There was a TV, fridge, coffee maker, kettle, etc. The bathroom was good with separate shower & tub. The buffet breakfast was excellent with plenty of selection including western & a gelato bar not to be missed (yes for breakfast) with many flavors. The location of the Hotel was great, right...

We choose this hotel for our 3-night stay because it was close to the train station. Being unfamiliar with Kyoto, we thought this area would be an easy choice. While there is much to do and see in this area, if I should go back, I might consider a hotel closer to shopping and restaurants in other parts of town....

Wonderful location next to the train station, downtown stores and several temples and shrines. While the rooms are bit small they are very nicely appointed, comfortable beds, and quiet even the rooms facing the train tracks. The front desk and concierge staff are terrific and very helpful. Finally the breakfast and the one dinner we had were excellent, although a...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
