The Suite was beautiful, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. Hotel overall has a laid back feeling. There is a Westin Shuttle that takes you to the Kyoto Station. When we took the shuttle on our last day to get to the Kyoto station, we realized that we could have used it to get to Gion area and...

This is a good hotel in a great location.....though there are some things to consider: 1. The hotel has some 500 rooms. The huge lobby and large restaurants can be hectic when large groups are in residence. 2. The hotel was built over time with several wings added.....so the walk from the elevator can be long & a bit dismal....

Perfect location for your first visit to Kyoto. The Hotel shuttle and the neighboring underground station allow you to easily get around in kyoto. The hotel is in walking distance to the Zoo, a temple area and the philosophic walking way. It is a huge hotel with restaurants and all the amenities you can think of. International as well as...

It is probably as close to the old Japan as a westerner can get. Room is spacious with elegant simple decoration next to a bamboo and rock garden. Hotel staff is very attentive. The hotel is in a great neighborhood of old Kyoto, old houses, walking distance to all the shrines and forests. Check out the cemetery and the Chion-in...

A great location, close to the Philosopher's Walk with free shuttle downtown. Only downgrade is for room furnishings: they're a little worn. Otherwise a great hotel. The hotel has a beautiful garden and Shinto Shrine adjacent that is worth a visit. Subway station is close.

Good location and a very helful concierge are major plus points. Also, we had a room on the club floor with a nice view. The club lounge drinks and snacks were also very good. The massive problem is that this hotel feels very old and some of the fixtures are so out of date.

I first stayed at this hotel 13 years ago before it became a westin and it was great. Location: excellent location as you could walk north to nanzenji for temple visit and tofu meals, further north along the philosophy path to silver pavilion temple, walk south and west to Gion and other major sites. Rooms: Now they have done some...

Nice hotel with great service. The breakfast was really impressive. Huge selection... good fuel for the day. Rooms were nice with great toiletries / amenities included. The location is really nice for accessing different parts of the city but there isn't a lot right near it. I would go back. The Starwood club floor was a touch weak relative to...

After 5 days walking on the Nakasendo trail staying in assorted ryokan, then 2 days at a luxury retreat; I think the Westin delivered what it promised and a little more. The staff were exceptionally helpful and courteous and the concierge service in particular went out of their way to research restaurants and shops for us. The set Japanese breakfast...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
