We absolutely loved our experience at the Westin Kyoto. As loyal SPG members, we knew we could expect excellence. The staff was extremely helpful & accommodating! The rooms were simple yet tradition to the Kyoto area. The facilities and grounds were great! The jacuzzi was the perfect way to end a long day of walking.

This is an older hotel that is showing its age. That said, is conveniently located near a Subway stop outside of the city so you can get to the key areas. Just plan a little extra time because you are not in the heart of Kyoto.

This is a well run clean safe hotel, located close to the subway. It has a free shuttle bus to pick you up from the main train station from the airport. It's a little dated but their rates reflect that. It's located in a very quiet area with parks nd walks near by.

We had a lovely stay there - close to the subway, handy shuttle bus to Gion and 2 other stations every 20 mins, friendly helpful staff and a very convenient satellite concierge at Kyoto station that transported our bags to the hotel for a small fee. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again. The hotel may be...

stayed here because some friends wanted to stay here, was apprehensive given the reviews. Our room was excellent from a space perspective (family quad room) but the carpets were literally worn through to the pad. the service to the train station was good but was full on rare occasions we wanted to use it so instead of waiting (at least)...

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your...

We stayed 3 nights and found the hotel well located in the north east of Kyoto. You are 10 minutes from the Philosophers path that leads to many temples. You are also near the Shoren in temple and Chinon in. The metro station Keage is 2 minutes away. To assist with transport options you also have the hotel shuttle bus...

Stayed here for 3 nights. Very friendly staff, especially the Concierge and front desk who were ver helpful with a special condition I had. The rooms however were old and not well maintained; just look at the curtain's picture. The sofa and the carpet looked from 1980's. The bathroom was in very good condition, you can tell that it was...

Stayed here for 4 nights in December with my wife and 2 year old daughter. Great hotel. Would highly recommend this hotel for families with young children. They have a kid play room and also have plenty of children meals if you decide to order room service. Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at the westin miyako for 2 nights during peak christmas season. Despite having booked late, we got a great rate that was much lower than other luxury hotels in Kyoto. Although the hotel location is not in the city center, there is a free shuttle bus that runs every 15 mins to 3 key locations including a return...

My family and I loved this hotel. The room we got was modern and nice. It is out of the way; but we (with two pre-teens) managed to walk to the Philosopher's walk and walked the whole way to Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion). You may to be prepared to cab if you are rushing for time. FYI There is a convenience...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
