My wife and I stayed at the Miyako for 4 nights in October 2012. The hotel was recommended to us by our travel agent and we were a little disappointed by it. The hotel itself feels quite glamorous based on first impressions of the lobby and check-in areas. It is a very large hotel and is used for weddings, conferences,...

Dated 1890, the Miyako Hotel (I mean today's depandance with Japanese Style rooms and zen garden and bird watch park) can transport you in the age of early '900 travellers. You still can get the modern comforts of breakfast, restaurants, spa of the main building (probably a bit dated). Very kind personell at the reception, very efficient Concierge, practical shuttle...

Fabulous location and views. Courtesy bus to the station and a couple of metros along the way. Walking distance from the Gion district. Nice big rooms. Very helpful concierge staff. We were already pre checked in and were handed key cards and breakfast vouchers on the bus The food is decent, but over priced. You are better off having breakfast...

If you're headed to Kyoto and need to stay at a Starwood hotel, you have two options: either stay here at the Westin, or book at stay in nearby Osaka and take the train in for a day or two. This Westin is certainly not up to chain standards, with dated rooms, mediocre staff, and an absolutely terrible bed. +...

Being a SPG Gold had me look for a Starwood hotel in Kyoto, and we were very happy with our stay at this Westin. This is a huge and renovated hotel northwest of central Kyoto. Location is good, but a bit far for my taste, its about 15 minutes to downtown Kyoto by subway (station by the hotel) and a...

We stayed 2 nights here in a standard western room (5033) and 2 other nights in Kyoto in a beautiful old ryokan. The service was excellent which seems to be standard across Japan. The hotel was nice and clean. It was a fairly long walk to the room from the lifts, not a problem for us but could be annoying...

The location of this hotel is excellent. It is on the east side of city by the mountain. Within 2 min walk distance from the Nanzhenji Temple area, where you find a lot of traditional architecture and residence houses. It would be nice to take a walk there before or after breakfast every day. This hotel looks off the city...

Westin Miyako is a good hotel and well maintained. The room was a generous size by Japanese standards (especially having stayed in Tokyo just prior). The subway is nearby so quite convenient. However quite a walk from anywhere of interest. Wifi (free) was available in the lobby only so this was a little inconvenient. Nevertheless, I'd stay there again if...

The Westin Miyako is an elegant hotel at the top of a hill with a beautifulk outlook. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were well appointed. I especially loved the heavenly showers. We upgarded to an exuctive club room so we could acccess the club and get breakfast from the restaurant. The room was nice but the "western"...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
