As mentioned by another reviewer, this hotel is overpriced and in terrible condition. The lobby is nice enough, but the rooms are awful and dated. I see the response of management below doesn't address this issue at all. To add insult to injury, they make you pay extra to use the substandard it was 'centre' - I have never encountered...

We choose the Westin Miyako because of the location thinking that coming from Tokyo it would be nice to be in more of a country setting. We were not dissapointed because we could walk to several interesting sites. The area was pretty and quiet. There is a shuttle to and from Kyoto center but be aware it will take you...

This hotel is very deceptive! The lobby is quite lavish, but our room was appalling! Terrible carpet, furniture and bathroom. Literally out of the 1970s. Do not book here - you're paying westin prices for a motor inn!

This hotel has a a typical Westin room or, a traditional Japanese room with Tatami mats in a building separate from the main hotel. We stayed 2 nights in the Japanese room which is very spacious. There is an area outside the room for you to sit and have a chat with your visitors. It is very tranquil with a...

Thank you for your comment. We are happy to know you were able to experience staying at the Japanese style room. Had the opportunity to stay at this hotel for two nights while we were in Kyoto. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front door and ushered over to our own reservationist. This is not the first time I stayed at this hotel. It has been renovated since my last stay in 2005. The lobby and room look modernised with up-to-date technology. The hotel surroundings is still as serene and scenic as ever. The newly modern touch does not take away its oriental flavour. Not to forget the free shuttle service between...

In early Mar, my family has planned to viist Kyoto for 5 days. First of all, we should find a hotel to accommodate all our 3 persons. Very pleased with this 3 night stay. Thankfully I saw about the free shuttle at the train station...its every half hour, to the right of where the buses are, if ask any shuttle bus they'll show you where it is. Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
