Went with a large group of students. The staff complained about we swapping rooms and anticipating the checkout by 1-2 days (over a 2 weeks period). Double-room was very small. On the plus side, the hotel has an internal sento (thermal bath) freely accessible, and also the yukata (kimono for sento) is already available in the room. Note that Wi-Fi... More

Nice enough place. When any room problems occurred they were promptly dealt with to the customers satisfaction. Accommodating staff, GREAT Japanese bath and some really fine restaurants. Prices were about standard for the area

I stayed here while attending a summer school at Kyoto University. It's a standard business hotel, the room was average sized with a small bathroom. The staff wasn't always very friendly and very few people at the front desk spoke English.

As the main organizer of an academic event, I booked rooms for several students in several hotels. This was the only hotel that made everything to make the whole experience troublesome. They do not advertise contact information in english (no phone number, no email address, no contact form). They charged me for the fees of 2 students that did not... More

I stayed at this hotel for only one night and accommodation was arranged by travel agency. When I first stepped into the hotel lobby, the impression is not good, very old style and aging hotel, very dark lighting. We heard a continue old style Japanese music perhaps coming from temples nearby and resulted a very stange and scary atmosphere. We... More

A very good hotel, especially for its price. We took a room in a traditional style. Pro: 1. Location: it's unexpectedly good, this Kyoto district contains a lot of sights to see, and you can buy all day bus ticket at reception 2. Reception: staff helped us several times with rather non-standard questions, like find a screwdriver for my laptop... More

It's hard to know who to recommend this hotel to. We booked a Japanese room, and after arriving discovered that none of the photos on the hotel website were of these rooms, that were minute shoeboxes with toilets that were literally smaller than on airlines, totally unsuitable for our family with younger children and older grandparents. Boiling kettles on the... More

We were travelling with three children and chose two adjoining traditional Japanese rooms (this hotel does not have connecting rooms.) the rooms consisted of a large combined living/bedroom with a TV, hot water pot, a table and three low chairs. The sleeping mats were stored in cabinets and were laid out for us in the afternoon and cleared away in... More

We had 3 weeks to book hotels or ryokans in Japan ans during Cherry blossom season you really have your work cut out for you! This place was one of the few available on short notice and although we had a small traditional room it was kind of neat. The room itself was a bit out dated and small and... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
